Atiku hosts Aisha Buhari during Umrah visit in Saudi Arabia

Former Vice President and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has met with Hajiya Aisha Buhari, widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, in Saudi Arabia.

Atiku disclosed the meeting on Friday via a post on his official X account, stating that he hosted the former First Lady, her daughter Hanan, and other members of the Buhari family during their visit.

According to Atiku, both families are currently in Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser hajj (Umrah), an Islamic pilgrimage undertaken by Muslims for prayers and spiritual reflection.

“I was honoured to host Hajiya Aisha Buhari, wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, her daughter Hanan, and other family members during their visit to me in Saudi Arabia,” Atiku wrote, adding that the visit took place while they were all in the Kingdom for Umrah.

The meeting marks Aisha Buhari’s first publicly known visit to Saudi Arabia since the death of her husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2025.

The encounter has drawn public interest given the prominent roles both figures have played in Nigeria’s political landscape. However, the visit was described as private and centred on religious activities, with no political engagement indicated.
