Businesswoman in court over alleged N750,000 visa fraud

A businesswoman, Catherine Yat, on Monday appeared in a Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly obtaining N750,000 under the guise of procuring an Oman visa for a client.

The police charged Yat with cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Ume Alozie, who resides in Wuse Zone Three, Abuja reported the matter at the Wuse Zone Three Divisional Police Headquarters, Abuja, sometime in June, 2019.

Ejike alleged that the defendant obtained N750,000 from the complainant, under the pretext of securing the traveling document for his son.

The prosecution alleged that Yat converted the money to her personal use.

According to Ejike, during police investigation, the defendant wrote an understanding to refund the money since she failed to secure the visa.

He said however, instead of refunding the money, she went into hiding.

Ejike further said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 322 of the Penal Code Law.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate Ahmed Ndajiwo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ndajiwo ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court with verifiable addresses, one of which must be a civil servant of any Grade Level, with a valid ID card.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 5, for hearing. (NAN)

New Zealand freezes $90m linked to cryptocurrency trader BTC-e

New Zealand police have frozen 140 million New Zealand dollars (90 million dollars) in funds thought to be linked to a cryptocurrency firm whose owner has been accused of money laundering.

Police Commissioner Andrew Coster said in a statement on Monday that “the money is linked to the Canton Business Corporation and its owner Alexander Vinnik, who was holding funds in a New Zealand company.

“Canton and Vinnik previously operated cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e.”

New Zealand police alleged that U.S.-based BTC-e had no anti-money laundering controls and policies, which allowed cyber criminals to launder proceeds from criminal activities.

“These funds are likely to reflect the profit gained from the victimisation of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people globally as a result of cyber-crime and organized crime,’’ Coster said.

Vinnik was arrested on money laundering allegations in Greece in 2017 and has since been extradited to France where he remains in custody.

Coster said given the global nature of money laundering, there is always a risk that New Zealand companies will inadvertently become involved.

“However, this restraint demonstrates that New Zealand is not, and will not be, a safe haven for the illicit proceeds generated from crime in other parts of the world,’’ Coster said.

According to him, an investigation is ongoing, pending an application to the High Court seeking forfeiture of the funds.

The funds currently frozen mark the largest restraint of funds ever by New Zealand Police. (dpa/NAN)

  • S/Korea says Bolton’s memoir on Trump-Kim summit distorted

S/Korea says Bolton’s memoir on Trump-Kim summit distorted

Accounts by former U.S. National Security Adviser, John Bolton, of discussions between leaders of the United States and the two Koreas, in his upcoming book, are inaccurate and distorted, South Korea said on Monday.

Bolton gives details in the book of conversations before and after three meetings between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, including how their second summit in Vietnam fell apart.

The book, “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir”, is scheduled for publication on Tuesday but media outlets have released excerpts.

Reports have cited Bolton as writing that Moon, who is keen to improve relations with North Korea, had raised unrealistic expectations with both Kim and Trump for his own “unification” agenda.

“It does not reflect accurate facts and substantially distorts facts,’’ South Korea’s national security adviser, Chung Eui-Yong, said in a statement, referring to Bolton’s description of top-level consultations.

Chung did not elaborate on specific areas South Korea saw as inaccurate but said the publication set a “dangerous precedent”.

“Unilaterally publishing consultations made based on mutual trust violates the basic principles of diplomacy and could severely damage future negotiations,’’ he said.

Trump and Kim met for the first time in Singapore in June 2018, raising hope for efforts to press North Korea to give up its nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

But their second summit, in Vietnam in early 2019, collapsed when Trump rejected an offer by Kim to give up North Korea’s main nuclear facility in return for lifting some sanctions.

Bolton reportedly cites Chung as relaying Moon’s response to the breakdown as, on the one hand, Trump was right to reject Kim’s proposal but on the other, Kim’s willingness to dismantle the Yongbyon facility was a “very meaningful first step” toward “irreversible” denuclearisation.

Bolton refers to Moon’s position as “schizophrenic”.

Asked about that reference by Bolton, a top official in Moon’s office told reporters: “Perhaps he is in that condition’’. (Reuters/NAN)

The commissioner added that the state was working with the Central Bank of Nigeria to deepen financial inclusion among women, adding that about 14,000 women have recently opened bank accounts.

According to her, the women will be thoroughly screened to ensure that only new beneficiaries access the money.

“We will use Bank Verification Number to screen existing beneficiaries out so that others can benefit,” she said.

The commissioner said that over 7,000 women benefited from the programme in 2019, noting that individual received N20,000 while association of 10 members got N200,000.

  • Ibidun, life without you is colorless, dry — Ituah Ighodalo misses wife

Ibidun, life without you is colorless, dry — Ituah Ighodalo misses wife

For Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, life without his wife, Ibidun Ighodalo who died of cardiac arrest a week ago, is a colorless and dry one.

    First, Ituah was a divorcee.

A chartered Accountant, his first wife, Lucy-Ann Summer, who is also of same profession, left him.

Meanwhile, his first marriage which was contracted abroad was without a child and his wife refused to return with him to Nigeria. He became born again and she broke up with him.

As a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, RCCG, he was not expected to be divorced.

The rule is, as long as that spouse you are divorced from is alive, you cannot remarry.

Maybe that kept Pastor Ituah for 10 years as a bachelor. He was single, divorced but pastoring a RCCG Parish n Gbagada.

Then, he met a beautiful youth corper, Ibidunni Ajayi, who had also contested for the Miss Lux Beauty Pageant.

A graduate of Microbiology, Ibidun and Pastor Ituah dated for four years.

“I met Ibidun when she was fresh out of school and we became friends. She was young and always wanted to organize things,” he told members of the Professional Event Planners Association, who paid him a condolence visit on Tuesday.

He proposed to her after 18 months of friendship

They got married on April 16, 2007 and had their engagement three days later in Ibadan.

Since he had remarried, he had to leave the Redeemed Church.

Two years later, he founded the Trinity House Church.

Little wonder, she wrote on their 12th wedding anniversary in 2019:

    “12 years…….
    You’ve been my friend…..
    You’ve been my lover…..
    You’ve been my father….
    You’ve been a husband…..
    You’ve comforted me…..
    You’ve made me laugh….
    You’ve groomed me…..
    You’ve defended me…..
    You’ve understood me….
You’ve stood by me….. Everyday in my consciousness and unconsciously I thank God for the gift of Olajide…. God truly knew what He was doing when He made our paths cross……”

She would always talk about their love and his support. When they had their 13th wedding anniversary last February, she wrote,

“13th year anniversaries are symbolised by LACE… Baby,

May our lives continue to be LACED in love
May our love continue to be LACED with Gods grace
May our marriage and union continue to be LACED with peace, joy and happiness
May our peace continue to be LACED WITH Gods protection
Thank you for giving me peace
Thank you for being my peace
Thank you for allowing me to fly
Thank you for allowing me Express who I am
    Thank you for holding me
Thank you for being my pillar of support
Thank you for loving me UNCONDITIONALLY
Thank you for being my father
Thank you for being my friend

Tonto Dikeh and ex-husband engage in fresh war on Father’s Day

Seems the war between Tonto Dikeh and ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill isn’t over yet as they attacked each other on social media over Tonto’s Father’s Day post.

Celebrating Father’s Day today, Tonto Dikeh mocked her ex-husband and son’s father, Olakunle by revealing how she single handedly plays the father role in their son, King Andreh‘s life.

She wrote “Happy Father’s Day to all the non biological fathers of babies, they are standing in for cause they love the mom..
Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing Step Dads and Father figures…
Happy Father’s Day to all the Amazing Single Dads..

God bless you all for Us, you are a gift..

    Tonto Dikeh’s post for father’s day 2020

The controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh further wrote “Happy Fathers Day TO ME BECAUSE I’VE DONE IT ALL BY MYSELF AND ACED IT ANYWAYS.. Actions prove who someone is.. Words just prove who they want to be…
DEAREST SON, BEING YOUR DAD HAS BEEN A GREAT HONOR..
THANKS FOR MAKING ME MR MOM
    I LOVE YOU KIDDO”

Immediately responding to her post, Olakunle Churchill via his Instagram page stated that a father is a father irrespective of marital issues.

Sharing a photo collage of himself and his four year old son, Andreh, Olakunle Churchill wrote “Happy Fathers’ Day to all the fathers in the world. A father is a father irrespective of marital challenges. A father is not only by way of giving birth to a child; but by way of taking caring of children around you, and children around the world who are in need.

    Olakunle Churchill’s post for father’s day, 2020

I pray for all the fathers in the world that your child/children will not be used as a tool of jealousy, because of broken relationships like it’s done in the old Era.
As I celebrate this day, I pray this won’t be the era when single parenting ends up affecting a child/ children’s mentality thereby confusing them.

This is a new Era and things have changed. Relax, you’ll reconnect with your child at the right time.
    You Are A father!
We Are Fathers!! I Am A Father!!! Happy Father’s Day To You!”

Earlier in the year 2018, Churchill reportedly filed a lawsuit against Tonto Dikeh at a family court.

He seeks to protect his son’s image and to shield him from being exploited.
