NCDC announces 315 new COVID-19 cases, infections now 12,801

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 315 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 12,801.

The NCDC announced this on Monday through its official Twitter handle, noting that as at June 8, 315 new confirmed cases and seven deaths were recorded in the country.

No new State has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

The NCDC said that COVID-19 cases were managed based on the symptoms, complications and other conditions patients present on admission or develop during treatment while their immune system fights the infection.

The health agency said that till date, 12,801 cases have been confirmed, 8,400 active cases, 4,040 cases have been treated and discharged and 361 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The NCDC said that 315 new cases were reported from 14 states: Lagos (128), FCT (34), Rivers (32), Edo (28), Oyo (22), Kaduna (20), Gombe (13), Ogun (8), Plateau (5), Delta (7), Kwara (7), Kano (5), Bauchi (4), Katsina (2).

The public health Institute said that they were not where they wanted to be in the response to COVID-19 in the country.

“We have reagents for about 200,000 tests across our lab network, however, our testing capacity is grossly under-utilised.

“We’re challenging states to collect samples from the right people,” it explained.

NCDC said that it recognised that they started from a very low base, with inadequate health infrastructure to respond to an outbreak of such magnitude.

“What we have regardless is a vibrant workforce, working round the clock to control the infection,” it said. (NAN)

According to most Nigerians, Venita when too far by calling Ella a liar, beggar and referring to her as bipolar. The mother of two was dragged and disgraced on twitter for bringing down her fellow woman publicly and for making her cry on TV .

Mercy on the other hand disappointed most of her fans for judging and asking if Ella does drugs, thereby making her look like a messy girl.

I paid D’banj N150,000 for his first show in Nigeria — Mallam Yankee

Popular singer D’banj celebrates his 40th birthday today, and a former associate of his revealed a 2005 incident that made the singer chose to make music in Nigeria.

D’banj who was formerly based in London returned to Nigeria for a show that paid him N150.

The show made him realize how popular he was, and so he decided to remain in the country and he blew up in the process.

Mallam Yankee wrote: “July 15th, 2005 was a remarkable day as Oladapo Daniels Oyebanjo, aka, @iambangalee flew in a Virgin Atlantic airline from London to Lagos and in turns flew Albarika Airline from Lagos to Abuja for ‘Abuja Alive Concert’ organized by Yankee Entertainment at the Women Centre Abuja.

He never knew how popular he was, neither did he know that his single ‘Tongolo’ was a National Anthem in the country. I paid him 150k for the show. He realized this after the show and didn’t contemplate the decision to stay back in the country to further pursue his soaring musical career.

I could only afford international flight for Dbanj without Don Jazzy, but he came from Lagos to Abuja with Durella

Like a Nollywood flick, he and Don Jazzy took over the industry with Mohit Records that eventually gave birth to so many artists. It was a renaissance in the Nigerian music industry.

Today, I remain undoubtedly proud of my friend and cousin from Shagamu in Ogun State @iambangalee cause it remains difficult to beat the record he has set in the industry.

Happy 40th Birthday in less than 1day to my friend, my brother.
    God Bless Bangalee…”

Reno Omokri slams Nollywood, says it de-markets Nigeria

Reno Omokri has taken to twitter to criticize the Nigerian movie industry claiming that it demarkets Nigeria.

In a series of tweets, Reno Omokri recounted how he and actor Kanayo O Kanayo met an American woman who became scared of them because of how Nollywood movies have stereotyped Nigeria.

He wrote: “I sometimes wonder if Nollywood is an appropriate name for the Nigerian movie industry. Perhaps Jujuwood would be a more fitting name. No other institution has been as responsible for the stereotyping of Nigerians as diabolical people as Nollywood!

Art imitates life. Movies are meant to reflect your culture. When you watch an American movie, like Fast and Furious, for example, it makes you want to go to America. When you watch a Nollywood movie, it makes you want to run far away from Nigeria!

In 2011, @KanayoOKanayo and I were walking in San Francisco. An American lady recognised him. I brought out my camera, thinking she wanted a photo. She screamed and said ‘you want to use my photo for juju’! That is what Nollywood has done to us!

Nollywood took off in 1992 with Living in Bondage. 28 years later and she’s still in infancy? It started with juju (Living in Bondage), and still focuses on Juju. If it used 30 years to learn madness, how will the real madness be?”.

Adekunle Gold reveals he cried when daughter, Adejare, came out

Talented singer, Adekunle Gold has revealed to his fans how much he cried after his daughter, Adejare was birth by his wife, Simi.

Recall that the celebrity couple, Adekunle Gold and Simi welcomed their daughter on the 30th of May, 2020.

32 year old new mum, Simi took to her official Instagram page to announce the birth of her little girl last night.

In an now released open letter, Adekunle Gold had this say about the arrival of Adejare, their baby girl.

    Read piece below:

“It’s been a lot right? I know. The violence against women, against black people and this pandemic, was just too much, I had to log out for a bit. I had to check out to prepare a healthy mind and a safe space to welcome my child into the world.

And even though I have sad feelings throughout the day about the crisis outside, when I am with my baby, it’s pure unadulterated joy. I cried so much when Adejare came out. I cried when I first held her. I can’t lie, I still stare at her and shed a few more. Lol!

And even though I have sad feelings throughout the day about the crisis outside, when I am with my baby, it’s pure unadulterated joy. I cried so much when Adejare came out. I cried when I first held her. I can’t lie, I still stare at her and shed a few more. Lol!

It feels like an obsession really. If someone else is holding Deja, I miss her. I love our skin to skin time. I love feeding her. I love changing her diapers. I love everything, including the insomnia. I’m obsessed with all her expressions; you need to see her stank face – it’s hilarious. I have never seen any baby this beautiful. I mean it. My baby came out with a head full of hair like mine and the most beautiful face I’ve ever seen like Simi. Wow!

I feel so protective over Adejare, and everything happening right now has made me even more conscious of how I want to raise her. I want her to always know she is loved. She is powerful. She is pure black girl magic and I will always believe in her.

I know we are fighting for so much right now. So much pain and insensitivity of the past generations are haunting us. I hope we don’t quit fighting for women’s rights too because I truly believe if our women are empowered and allowed to lead, we all would be so much better for it. I know this first hand because Simi is powerful and my life is better for it.

While we fight for today’s problems, let’s also fight for our future. We must ensure we don’t raise our children with the same consciousness that raised us. We must raise sons who respect, value and revere women and raise daughters that are strong and fearless. That we raise children who speak up and stand up for what is right, that we raise children who don’t continue the cycle of abuse, fear, secrecy and insensitivity that has plagued our own generation and the ones before us. I pray for justice for all the victims and that if the hand of the law isn’t swift enough, that the hand of God will do His thing.

Above all, I wish that even in this madness you find pockets of sunshine that help you breathe and reconnect with yourself and that you have reasons to feel alive and happy.

I’m hugging and kissing and praying over my unemployed princess, Adejare while supporting everyone in all the other ways I can.

I pray you are doing the same too.

    Sending you loads of love.
