Opening church will expose people to COVID-19 – Pst. Tunde Bakare

The Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has stated in an online sermon on Saturday that opening of churches at this time will only endanger people’s lives as they would be exposed to COVID-19.

Bakare stated this on Saturday in a sermon on YouTube.

He said it was not yet time to open places of worship despite the pressure being put on the government by clerics of both the Muslim and Christian faiths.

He said: “I’m so sorry for our country at this juncture.

“I’m so sorry that we are pressurising the government to open churches and to open mosques.

Abia state governor tests positive for COVID-19

Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia state, has tested positive for COVID-19.

John Okiyi Kalu, commissioner of information in the state, announced the case in a statement on Monday.

He said the governor had gone into isolation before his result returned positive, and that he has directed the deputy governor to act on his behalf pending the time he resumes duty.

”Recall that on Saturday, 30th May, 2020, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu volunteered his sample for COVID-19 test and subsequently directed members of the state Executive Council (EXCO) and those of the inter ministerial committee on COVID-19 to submit themselves for the same test. On Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020. Tthe result of Governor Ikpeazu’s test returned negative,” he said.

”On Thursday, 4th June, 2020, the Governor submitted another sample at NCDC laboratory for confirmation and the result returned positive.

”As a result, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has gone into isolation, as required by relevant NCDC protocols, and he is being managed by a competent team of medical practitioners with a view to nursing him back to good health.

”Consequent on the above, the Governor has directed his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, to act on his behalf pending his full resumption of duties.

”We wish to urge all Abians to take the fight against COVID-19 serious as the disease is real but not a death sentence. Our state has the resources to manage patients back to good health.”

Ikpeazu is the fourth governor to contract the coronavirus – after Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi.

In March, the governor said COVID-19 would not afflict Abia because the state is mentioned in the Bible.

“Abia is the only state that is mentioned in the Bible. We have a promise from God that none of these diseases will touch God’s people. And I hold on to God’s promise,” he said.

“We saw Ebola, it did not get to us. We saw monkey pox, it didn’t get to us. Even this one (coronavirus) will also pass us by.”

The commissioner of environment in the state had died, though it was not confirmed he died of COVID-19. But some members of the immediate family of the deceased commissioner tested positive for the disease.

Majek Fashek’s family ask for financial assistance to bring his body home

Family of Reggae legend, Majek Fashek, has turned to the public to plea for financial assistance in order to fly his body home.

This is coming after the reggae legend died on June 1, 2020 in New York City, United States of America.

Former member of the House of Representatives, representing Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency and music enthusiast and owner of U&I Records, made the call on behalf of the family.

Agbonayinma described Majek as a legend and Africa’s pride and thus cannot be allowed to be buried like an ordinary mortal.

He added: “ With the support of the family, the children, we are looking at how we can bring him to Nigeria to be buried. This is going to cost quite a lot of money, especially with the challenge of Covid-19.

So, we are trying to raise funds. The only account we have right now to be donated to, is the senior son’s account, Randy.

“Making this public is not my decision alone, some people came and said we should set this up. They said we should set up accounts in America and Nigeria. We want him to be buried here in Nigeria, his fatherland and not in some foreign land like a chicken.

In Nigeria, we are still trying to decide which account to use but the American account of the first son is ready and people are already paying into it. I must commend the response has been encouraging but we need more funds.”

He said that there is a committee being set up to take charge of setting up the Nigerian account.

“In the meantime, people can pay to the American account of the son. We just have to bring Majek home for proper burial,” he reiterated.

The eldest son’s American account is:

  • Patience Ozokwor speaks on rape, advises girls to stop dressing skimpily

Patience Ozokwor speaks on rape, advises girls to stop dressing skimpily

Veteran actress, Patience Ozokwor, aka Mama G, reacted to the ongoing rape allegations scandalizing Nollywood.

Recall that Actress Sylvia Oluchi hours ago, accused veteran movie director, Lancelot Imasuen, of sexually assaulting her, during a film shoot in 2008.

Reacting, Patience Ozokwor in a chat with Sunday scoop said those involved in such acts should be banned from the industry.

“Yes (they should be banned) because they cannot represent us as an industry. The guilds in the industry have disciplinary committees and they won’t allow such people to stay. There is a standard punishment that is to be meted out to anyone found guilty of such act.

“It is heartbreaking whenever I hear that things like that happen in the entertainment industry because they (entertainers) have access to whatever they want. There is no girl they desire and approach that would not follow them, even when they (girls) know that some of them are married. Forcing a girl into (the act) is just stupid. My heart is breaking as you are telling me that it happens in the industry because I don’t go on social media anymore.” she stated.

Handing down advice for the womenfolk, she said, “Girls should stop dressing provocatively. It seems like they can’t do without skimpy wear. That was one of the reasons I shut down my boutique because if one doesn’t sell skimpy clothes, people would not buy.

However, people with good background would not do that because they know it would bring shame to their families. Some actresses think that when they dress that way, they would get roles but it is not true. Talent comes first. It is on set that one would be given the kind of dress one is to wear, so that one can properly portray the character one is playing.

Many girls come in (the industry) and they want to make it by all means, so they fall into the wrong hands. Even some of the people they think are directors may not be professional directors. Real directors don’t have time to mess around like that.

“Ladies should take it easy. Becoming a star is not the ultimate. When I started my career, I didn’t know that there was anything like stardom. I was just doing what I enjoyed and it has turned out to be what it is today.

“Some parents even dress their children in skimpy clothes, saying they want to prepare them to be stars. Whenever they meet any one that promises to turn their children to stars, they would quickly hand them over to the person.
