    By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

The commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Baba Azare has ordered the immediate arrest of any policeman found accompanying private individuals, politicians, or VIP not duly approved by the Force.

He has also reminded officers of the state Government’s ban on masquerade activities, noting that such gatherings have recently led to breaches of peace, violence, and public disturbances.

Azare made this known during a strategic meeting with Senior Police Officers of the Command in Uyo on Tuesday also issued fresh directives aimed at strengthening internal discipline and enhancing public safety across the state.

The Commissioner expressed deep concern over the increasing violation of the Inspector-General of Police’s directive prohibiting policemen from escorting unauthorized VIPs.

Such officers he warned would be disarmed, subjected to orderly room trial, and sanctioned accordingly while Area Commanders and DPOs would be held fully responsible for the conduct of their personnel.

Azare directed all Area Commanders, DPOs, and Tactical Commanders to enforce the ban on masquarade strictly, warning that any form of negligence or compromise by officers would attract disciplinary consequences.

The Commissioner also condemned the rising circulation of fake news, especially on social media, which has the potential to create panic and undermine the existing peace in the state and directed officers to intensify community engagements, monitor emerging threats, and ensure that persons involved in the deliberate spread of falsehood are identified and prosecuted.

He ordered all Tactical Units, Area Commands, and Divisions to embark on rigorous stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led raids on black spots, and sustained surveillance on suspected criminal hideoutsemphasizing that these operations must be professional, lawful, and citizens must not be subjected to unnecessary harassment.

Azare reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining Akwa Ibom State as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. He urged officers to remain disciplined, alert, and fully dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities, noting that the success of policing depends largely on professionalism, teamwork, and public trust.

He called on residents to remain law-abiding and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation and assured the public that the Command wpuld continue to strengthen collaborative efforts with other security agencies to ensure sustained peace and security.

Gov Mbah Launches Hi-tech Drones, Equipment, Patrol Vans to Boost Security

_…No hiding place for criminals – Enugu Security Trust Fund_

    By Samuel Itsede

To further boost the security of lives and property, Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has inaugurated hi-tech security equipment and patrol vehicles procured by the Enugu State Security Trust Fund, ESSTF.

Items inaugurated were two state-of-the-art drones, 10 Hilux vehicles (4×4), 40 motorcycles, 400 bulletproof vests, and 400 bulletproof helmets.

Inaugurating the items at Government House, Enugu, on Monday, Governor Mbah thanked the Trustees of ESSTF for their commitment to strengthening security in the state, saying that the items would complement the administration’s existing investments in security, including the state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, AI-enabled surveillance cameras across the state, and over 150 Distress Response Squad vehicles fitted with AI-embedded cameras.

He observed that the administration’s achievements and humongous vision would have come to naught without the security of lives and property, but assured that his government would not rest on its oars and would continue to cooperate with the President Bola Tinubu Administration, which he said was working tirelessly to make sure the country is safe and secure.

“The security challenges we are having are local, and at the state level, we must also play our own role to ensure our localities are safe. So, these items will be deployed to ensure Enugu State remains the safest state in this country.

“We can confidently say that violent crimes have been reduced by over 80 per cent in Enugu State today. But as you know, we are not resting on our laurels because the criminals and bad elements we are dealing with are not resting, but are looking for any opportunity to breach our security.

“Security is one sector you may have scored 90 per cent, but just one breach can undermine all the successes you have accomplished. That is why we must invest heavily in equipment and infrastructure that enable us to nip crime in the bud and act quickly when one has been committed. That is why today’s event is reinforcing,” Mbah stated.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of ESSTF, Ike Chioke, who was represented by a member of the ESSTF Board of Trustees, Nath Udeh, said there was no longer any hiding place for criminals, adding that the inaugurated items would boost the governor’s efforts to position Enugu as the safest state to live and invest in.

He assured that ESSTF would do more, noting that the drastic improvement in security under the Mbah Administration was visible in the number of visitors and businesses presently coming into the state.

“Despite the number of flights now coming into Enugu, if you do not book on time, you do not get a seat. That tells you the amount of traffic now coming into Enugu. Some companies also want to have their retreats and a couple of assignments here in Enugu. These are signs to show that there is something nice happening here,” he added.

Throwing more light on the security items, the Executive Secretary of ESSTF, Engr. Chinedu Ani, explained that the two Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) drones would enable operations in any kind of terrain, as they would not need a runway to take off.

“The drones also have a coverage and a range of 100km and as far as I know, from this spot (Command and Control Centre), which is where we normally take off, the longest air distance in Enugu here is 90km. So, it has the capability to go beyond Enugu State. And also, we can cruise at 120km per hour. They are quite fast.

“Each drone has several cameras, including thermal camera, night vision and daytime vision. Those cameras can zoom up to so many kilometres from the position of the drone. So, it is a very powerful equipment that has a lot of technologies. The cameras are also AI-equipped. So, they can do a lot of analysis. With the drones, we now have additional capability to track suspects, vehicles, and human beings anywhere within the state,” he explained.

A Trustee of ESSTF and the Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onyekachi Onyia, justified the heavy investment in security, highlighting the state’s strategic place in the security and stability of the entire South East and the defunct Eastern Region.

“We know the consequences of leaving Enugu porous. If terrorists are able to get through Enugu, the South East is finished. It will not end well,” he stated.

  • Ex-Governor Emmanuel may dump PDP as he rallies Nigerians for Tinubu

Ex-Governor Emmanuel may dump PDP as he rallies Nigerians for Tinubu

    By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

There are strong indications that former Governor of Akwa Ibom. Mr Udom Emmanuel may dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his call for Nigerians to support President BolaTinubu to solve the challenges currently facing the country.

This is even as his successor and political son, Governor Uno Eno has commended him for rallying support for the President.

Emmanuel, who stated this at an interactive session held with newsmen at the Pre-Service of Nine Lessons and Carol, held at the United Evangelical Church, Surulere, Lagos, yesterday, noted that all hands must be on deck in massively providing required support for the President to solve the problems facing the country.

Stephen Abia, an aide to the former governor in a starwmwnt quoted him as urging Nigerians across ethnic, party and religious divides need to come together at this moment of our national life to support the President in solving the problems that can plunge our nation into crisis.

“This is not the time to dwell on factors that create divisions, the issues that expand the frontiers of our disagreements and further undermine our national unity.

“Rather, as a people, we must pull together to confront our common enemies by giving every necessary support to President Tinubu to enable him face the challenges that are militating against the progressive movement upon which he has set our nation.”

Emmanuel urged the President to continue to pursue the visions that would help the country overcome her current challenges and bring her to the ultimate goal of achieving good governance.

Meanwhile, a release by Governor Eno’s Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno, thanked Emmanuel for rallying support for the President.

“This is a welcome development and a testament to the fact in spite of our political differences, we are united in our support and therefore, must rally behind the President as he confronts the challenges facing our dear nation.

“This, indeed speaks so eloquently about the Akwa Ibom United mantra we have been championing and I salute and thank my predecessor for this patriotic act.”The statement said.

  • A”Ibom community condemns campaign against Monarch aftermath of election

A”Ibom community condemns campaign against Monarch aftermath of election

    By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

The Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village Council has strongly condemned the continuous and ill-motivated campaign of calumny against Eteidung Emem Asikpo by one Udeme Asuquo, operating under an amorphous group, Voice of Liberation Network (VLN).

The community said Asuquo, acting on behalf of himself and others, had soon, after his group lost out in the race to have their desired aspirant to emerge as the village head in 2023, consistently embarked on the mission of spewing falsehood and writing unfounded petitions against Asikpo.

“Since then, Udeme Eyo Asuquo and his group have taken it upon themselves to concoct, instigate, fabricate and raise non-existent happenings against Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo in a bit to tarnish his reputation and cause crisis in the community with the sole intention to have him removed from the throne,” the community leaders stated.

In a statement yesterday in Uyo,Comrade Morris Bassey, Chairman, Village Council and two others urged members of the public to disregard a news report published in an online media – the Sahara Reporters of Thursday, November 27, captioned “Akwa-Ibom Residents Petition Tinubu, Accuse Police Officers, Village Heads Of Land-Grabbing, Attempted Murder.”

According to the community, the mastermind of the online news reports won’t be anyone else other than Udeme Eyo Asuquo as the name of his group, Voice of Liberation Network (VLN), is mentioned as the petitioner.

The community recalled that he had equally sent a petition to the Deputy Inspector General of Police on February 27, 2025, which led to the unlawful arrest and detention of Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo from March 8 – 12, 2025 at both the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and the Police Headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

“However, the petitioner Udeme Eyo Asuquo was unable to provide any tangible evidence to buttress any of the allegations, which caused the Police authorities to release Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, and then requested the Paramount Ruler of Uyo to look into any dispute between the parties.

“Surprisingly, Udeme Eyo Asuquo failed to show up on the date the case was fixed. Again, after being granted the request for adjournment, he still dishonoured the traditional council by failing to appear on another hearing date,” they stated.” The statement said.

The community also accused Asuquo of raising fresh petition against Asikpo to the Police Headquarters in Abuja, leading to another round of arrest, and yet he could not substantiate his claims.

It added that upon sensing his possible interdiction for his ignoble activities, Asuquo absconded from the Police headquarters and abandoned the matter only to resurface now with cooked up information to the online media outlet, Sahara Reporters.

They warned him to desist forthwith from his penchant of recycling false allegations against the village head and by extension the entire village, and to accept the reality that kingship comes from God.

Meanwhile, an Uyo High Court presided over by His Lordship Hon. Justice Bassey Ekanem has given judgement in a suit filed by the Village Head against Asuquo, Inspector David Etim, Furtune Bassey and others, seeking for the enforcement of his right to dignity of human person, right to personal liberty and right to freedom of movement as guaranteed under sections 34(1), 35(1) and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Court upheld that that the arrest and detention of Asikpo for a period of five days without trial amounted to an infringement of his personal liberty under section 35(1) and his freedom of movement under section 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended. It held that the Police misuse of its powers was at the instigation of Udeme Eyo Asuquo.

The Court stated that “while the Police have a duty to investigate criminal complaints, this duty must be exercised judiciously and not be allowed to become an instrument for civil coercion.”

“Having considered the totality of the facts and circumstances of this case, and guided by relevant authorities and constitutional provisions, I find and hold that the complaint made by the 1st respondent (Udeme Eyo Asuquo) to the Police was malicious and made without reasonable or probable cause.

“A detention period of five days is clearly unconstitutional, being far beyond the 48-hour limit. No remand order was shown to exist, nor was any compelling justification offered by the Respondents. In my respectful view, this constitutes a grave and flagrant breach of the Applicant’s right to liberty guaranteed under Section 35 of the Constitution.

“From the totality of the evidence and the law, it is clear that both the arrest and subsequent detention of the Applicant were unlawful. The arrest was effected without adherence to due process or reasonable suspicion supported by facts, while the detention exceeded the constitutional time limit without lawful justification.

“The actions of the Respondents, therefore, amounted to an arbitrary and unconstitutional violation of the Applicant’s fundamental rights. Accordingly, this issue is resolved in favour of the Applicant,” the judge ruled.

The Court, accordingly awarded damages in the sum of N1million against Asuquo for violation of the applicant’s fundamental human rights and also awarded N2milion against Inspector David Etim and Fortune Bassey, jointly and severally for violation of the Applicant’s constitutional rights.

It also granted injunction restraining the Respondents, their agents and servants from further harassing, intimidating, or threatening to arrest and detain the Applicant in connection with the subject matter of this case.

  • Igbomotoru Massacre: Amagbein urges CDS to reopen investigations to bring perpetrators to book

    By Our Correspondent

Niger Delta ex-agitator, the self-styled General Endurance Amagbein, has urged the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to order fresh investigations into the 2024 siege on Igbomotoru Community in Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa State, where about 80 people were allegedly massacred by military personnel.

In a statement issued to journalists in Abuja during the weekend, Amagbein, popularly known as Adaka Boro the second, stated that while the rest of the world seemed to have moved on, the families of the 80 innocent souls allegedly killed by the Nigerian military are still mourning the death of their loved ones.

Amagbein described the incident as an unwarranted and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens, mostly youths, who were full of life, and stressed the need for the perpetrators to answer for their crimes so that the bereaved families can heal from the wounds inflicted upon them by the military.

The ex-agitator said, “Almost two years have elapsed since the Igbomotoru invasion, yet, no single person has been charged to court.”

“How quick was the investigation prompting the invasion of Igbomotoru on the 17th March, 2024 just three days after the 14th March, 2024 Okuama incident?

“It is sad that the military continues to occupy Igbomotoru Community even though all the military personnel have been withdrawn from Okuama since about a year ago, and we don’t know what is responsible for this siege.

“Surveillance contractors conniving with some rogue military echelon to gain award of surveillance contracts in 2024 allegedly continue to bear false allegations against my efforts.

“While the dastardly incident has happened, and we cannot turn back the hands of time, we can only sympathize with the families of the victims and pray for the right thing to be done, and we call on President Bola Tinubu to be a father to the families of the 80 persons allegedly killed by the Nigerian military in Igbomotoru on the March 17, 2024 raid.

“Even though we all mobilized our teaming supporters for the APC presidential bid in 2023, only a few gained recognition.

“We also call for adequate compensation for the killings and the destructions wrought upon the community by the military during the raid.

“Indigenes of Igbomotoru are still worried because surveillance contractors continue to use the Okuama incident as pretext to militarize the community (Igbomotoru) and oppress innocent people to gain cheap political and territorial control.

“So, we seize this opportunity to call on the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Director-General of the Department of Secret Service (DG-DSS), Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, to re-open investigation into the Okuama incident.

“We know that the CDS is a man of goodwill, he stands for justice and fairness, and we’re seeing the armed forces take a new shape under his command, and we know that he will listen to the cry of Igbomotoru people for justice to be served on those responsible for the senseless killings.

“We want him to use his good office to handle the matter, so that those falsely accused can go about their normal lives, and we want the final outcome of the investigations to be made public.

“We also wish to bring to the notice of the Chief of Defence Staff that many innocent persons are still languishing in various illegal detention centres for what they knew nothing about – without trace till date – and their families have no clue whether they are dead or alive after being captured by enemies of the state operating under the guise of pipeline surveillance workers.

“These people are citizens of Nigeria, and they have right to fair hearing, and that’s why we want the CDS to be a father to all and reunite these people with their families,” he added.

  • Address socio-economic conditions fueling terrorism- Ex Minister Essien to FG

Address socio-economic conditions fueling terrorism- Ex Minister Essien to FG

    By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

A former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chief Ndueso Easien has called on the Federal Government to address socio-economic conditions that fuel terrorism to control the recent surge in killings and kidnapping in some parts of the country.

He has also said that the politicisation of security has continued to pose greater danger to the country than the perpetuators themselves with the appointment of inexperienced hands into strategic military positions rendering the country’s security strategy vulnerable.

In a statement in Uyo yesterday, Essien expressed sadness that at a time when Nigeria is grappling with a crisis of uncontrolled population growth, especially in rural communities, men are encouraged to marry multiple wives and have unregulated numbers of children.

“Millions of underaged children roam the streets without education, guidance, or hope. Their parents cannot provide for them, and the government either lacks the will or the capacity to intervene. These children become easy recruits for banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.” He explained.

Any long-term solution according to him must include policies that restore dignity and opportunity to vulnerable groups.

He further stated that corruption remained another cancer eating at Nigeria’s core with resources meant for public welfare including security are routinely diverted.

“Reports of investigations are rarely published, and when they are, no action is taken. Nigeria is constantly short of funds because of massive leakages—despite oil sales, loans, subsidy removals, and other revenue sources. A government that cannot control corruption cannot secure its people.” Essien stated

The politicisation of security and the appointment of inexperienced hands the ex minister said if allowed to continue would make Nigeria risks lose public trust, experiencing economic collapse, fueling mass displacement, and sinking into deeper religious and ethnic conflict.

“Equally troubling are the appointments of defence ministers with little or no experience in security or defence operations. At a time when Nigeria is fighting highly adaptive terrorist networks, the defence sector must be led by individuals with strategic insight, operational competence, and deep knowledge of security matters.

“Defence is not a political reward; it is the backbone of national survival. Allegations that some officials harbour sympathies for terrorist groups or maintain questionable links with them only deepen public anxiety. A nation cannot defeat terror when elements of its security architecture may be compromised.

“No nation can survive these combined pressures. Propaganda, sycophancy, and political scheming must not be allowed to overshadow the urgent need for decisive action. Nigeria is too important to Africa and the world to be allowed to fail.” He said

He called on thought leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, civil society organisations, the media, and all patriotic citizens to rise above partisanship and help restore order.

“This support should be constructive, demanding competence and transparency while ensuring that government upholds its constitutional duty to protect lives and property. The government cannot solve this crisis alone; the nation must unite.

Furthermore, the administration must end the systematic suppression of opposition figures through intimidation, infiltration, and coercion. These tactics amount to political terrorism and undermine democracy.

“It is ironic that many current leaders who today restrict protests once freely organised demonstrations under far less threatening security conditions. The same freedoms that paved their path to power must not be denied to others today. A democracy that silences dissent stands on the brink of dictatorship.

“Niigeria stands at a critical crossroads. Our future depends on the choices we make now. The President must provide decisive and visionary leadership. The National Security Adviser and Defence Ministers must prove their capacity or resign. Service chiefs must deliver results or make way for those who can secure Nigeria.

“The administration cannot continue as it is. Failure to act will haunt the nation for generations. Yet with political will, unity, and purpose, Nigeria can overcome this dark moment.” He concluded.

  • APC Forum demands resignation of National chairman, Yilwatda

APC Forum demands resignation of National chairman, Yilwatda

    By Israel Adamu, Jos

The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum has said it regrets pushing for the appointment of a person from the region as national chairman of the APC and demands his resignation.

In a statement made available to our correspondent the North-Central APC Forum – a group of APC stakeholders from the North-Central states, said they embarked on a campaign to return the position to the zone. Notong that the Forum staged protests, held rallies, organised series of press conferences, issued statements and wrote to organs of the party, particularly the Progressive Governors Forum, over the matter.

Eventually, on July 24, 2025, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, from Plateau State in the North-Central, was appointed the party’s national chairman.

However, the North-Central APC Forum has said it is disappointed with Yilwatda’s performance, noting that he has not demonstrated the capacity to lead the party. The Forum equally accused the APC national chairman of promoting a religious agenda, and using the office to advance his selfish political interests in Plateau State.

The North-Central APC Forum spoke in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga. The statement came after a video clip showed Yilwatda, at a church service, saying he is representing North-Central christians.

Condemning Yilwatda’s conduct, the APC Forum extended apologies to all those it wronged while agitating for the return of the party’s national chairmanship position to the North-Central.

Parts of the statement read, “We, the North-Central APC Forum, regret our agitation for the return of the position of APC national chairman to the North-Central region. We hereby apologize to party leaders who we wronged in the course of the agitation. We are apologizing to Mr President, we are apologizing to former national chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje and we apologize to other leaders of the party.

“We came to this decision because the person who was appointed as APC national chairman from the North-Central, following our agitation, has not displayed the competence to handle such a sensitive position and lead the party to greater heights. He has shown that he is not competent enough to unite the people of the North-Central.

“The North-Central is a secular region but the national chairman has been seen to be taking a sectional religious position on sensitive issues. We have seen a viral video clip where he said he is representing the Christians of the North-Central. This is contrary to both party and national principles. Moreover, such a stand is against the leadership of this country.

“Having considered these issues, we have decided to apologize for demanding that somebody from the North-Central should be made the national chairman of the APC. We regret our actions. We spent one year in court, we spent one year and six months, and a lot of resources, agitating for that position to return to North-Central, which at the end of the day Mr President and leaders of the party heard our cry. We are apologizing because we were the only group involved in the agitation.”

The APC Forum noted that Yilwatda lacks the required political experience to occupy the position of party national chairman, having never been elected even as a delegate or councillor.

The North-Central APC stakeholders urged President Tinubu to appoint a more competent person, from any zone, as national chairman in December 2025, when the party initially scheduled a national convention.

The statement added, “But unfortunately, the position was given to somebody that does not understand politics – somebody that has not been in politics for long. He is just about three years in politics. He has never been elected, even as a delegate or councillor. So he is not supposed to hold that big position. He doesn’t know how to talk, he doesn’t know how to unite the people. His handling of the position has scattered the unity party members were enjoying in Plateau State and the North-Central.

“We equally appeal to Mr President to, in December, move the position of APC national chairman to any other zone, as long as the person chosen is competent and can guarantee the party’s victory. Even if the convention does not hold in December as planned, we urge Mr President to appoint a competent person from any zone to lead the party.”

The Forum stressed that not having the national chairman from the zone would not affect its promise to deliver six million votes to Tinubu from the North-Central in 2027.

“The North-Central has enough positions to sustain the party in the zone, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Attorney-General of the Federation. We also have the North-Central Development Commission. We don’t need the position of APC national chairman to deliver votes for Mr President in 2027. We have already promised Mr President that we will deliver and we will fulfill our promise.”

In the same vein, the APC Forum said Yilwatda is behind the opposition to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s possible defection to the APC. The Forum has been championing a campaign to convince Muftwang to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the APC. But the leadership of the APC in Plateau State has been opposing the move, passing a resolution to reject the governor’s coming.

The Forum said Yilwatda is blocking Mutfwang because of his intention to contest the Plateau governorship election in 2027. Yilwatda was APC gubernatorial candidate in Plateau in 2023, but lost to Muftwang, of the PDP.

The North-Central APC Forum told Yilwatda to resign as party national chairman and face his governorship ambition. Yilwatda was also accused of using his position to discredit the North-Central APC Forum’s certificate, issued since 2018, as a party support group.

“The national chairman wants to contest Plateau State governorship election again in 2027, that’s why he is blocking Governor Caleb Mutfwang from joining the party. He is sponsoring people to attack us because we are calling on Muftwang to defect to APC, which we believe is in the best interest of the party. So we are also asking the national chairman to step down from the position and concentrate on his ambition to contest the Plateau State governorship seat in 2027. If he is a true leader he should not block people from coming in to strengthen the party,” the statement added.
