Gov Uba Sani goes after Elrufai’s loyalists in Kaduna

    By our Correspondent

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state has embarked on a quiet but deliberate strategy to smoke out double-faced officials and loyalists of formal governor Elrufai from his government. The action according to insiders has also triggered a chain reaction of resignations, exposing what insiders describe as a spy network planted by former governor Nasir El-Rufai to monitor and undermine the current administration of Uba Sani.

Multiple government house sources confirmed that no fewer than seven appointees, who were initially thought to be loyal to Uba Sani, have dramatically stepped down in recent weeks.

“Far from the chaos of being painted by alarmist opinion pieces through what many came to understand as Elrufai’s digital mask, the resignations are being celebrated in Government House as a cleansing of “El-Rufai’s eyes and ears” from the corridors of power.” As source noted.

The governor’s move, was described by an aide as “housekeeping with surgical precision,” which he noted has also coincided with an upsurge in ghostwritten attacks on his administration, often published under the pseudonym “Salihu Saminaka. ” Political watchers insist the writing style, the bitterness, and the insider details in these pieces bear all the hallmarks of El-Rufai’s hand — especially since his loyalists inside government began falling like dominoes.

Our Correspondent learnt that the pattern is not confined to Government House. Within the Kaduna State chapter of the APC, a similar purge is quietly underway. Party insiders say those who once split their loyalty between the sitting governor and his predecessor are now being sidelined, as the leadership closes ranks to prevent the party from becoming a platform for El-Rufai’s political manoeuvres ahead of 2027.

Observers note that the timing is no coincidence. “When Uba Sani started dismantling the mole network, suddenly these long, alarmist essays about a ‘government in trouble’ began flooding the media. It’s classic misdirection,” said Mohammed Nasir, a senior APC figure. “But it’s not working — the public can see the difference between manufactured crisis and genuine governance.”

Rather than weaken the administration, the exit of these officials is seen as a tightening of the governor’s control. With key infrastructure projects progressing and reform policies taking root, the purge of suspected saboteurs is being hailed as a political masterstroke to protect both the government’s focus and the APC’s unity in the state.

As one party stalwart, Comrade Habeeb Bello put it, “This is not a crisis. This is pest control — and it’s overdue.”, he stated.

Dange/Shuni LGA Conducts Health Awareness Town Hall Meeting

    By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The town hall meeting on Measles and Rubella Vaccine Introduction in Nigeria, held in Dange Shuni Local Government, aimed to mobilize stakeholders on the dangers of these diseases, particularly for pregnant mothers and small children. The meeting emphasized the importance of Routine Immunization (RI), hospital delivery, nutrition, and water sanitation.

Both measles and rubella diseases can cause severe complications, including blindness, deafness, heart defects, and developmental disabilities.

Rubella infection during pregnancy can lead to Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS), resulting in birth defects.

The Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine as explained during the meeting is set to be introduced nationwide in Nigeria, with the goal of eliminating these diseases. The vaccine has been used globally for over 50 years and is credited with saving millions of lives.

The lecturers explained that Immunization is crucial in preventing measles and rubella outbreaks.

They said Nigeria aims to achieve 95% vaccination coverage to ensure herd immunity and protect vulnerable populations.

Despite the benefits of immunization, Nigeria faces challenges such as low vaccine coverage rates, particularly in the North-West region, and misinformation about vaccines.

Engaging traditional and religious leaders is vital in promoting vaccine acceptance and uptake. These leaders can help dispel myths and misconceptions about vaccines.

It could be recalled that governor Àhmad Aliyu of Sokoto in his 9 point agenda has pledged to support the MR vaccine rollout, including public awareness campaigns and logistical support.

Collaboration between government agencies, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders is essential for the success of the MR vaccine introduction.

Continued advocacy efforts are necessary to ensure widespread acceptance and uptake of the MR vaccine as explained by Bilkisu Aliyu when contacted on the dangers of measles.

She said engaging communities through town hall meetings, radio and television campaigns, and social media can help build trust and promote vaccine uptake and that  regular monitoring of vaccination coverage and disease outbreaks will help identify areas for improvement and ensure the success of the MR vaccine introduction.

Participants include local government council members, traditional and religious leaders among others.

Plateau group faults Margif over false allegations against Mutfwang

Accuses him of abandoning his people

    By Israel Adamu, Jos

A Plateau-based group under the banner of the “Vanguard  for the voice of reasoning  has faulted the former Plateau State Governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Chief Yohanna Margif, over what it described as a baseless and false accusation against Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.

Margif had alleged that the Governor remained silent over recent attacks in Mushere communities of Bokkos Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, James Buba, the group accused Chief Margif of neglecting his people for over a year, failing to visit or commiserate with them following repeated bloody assaults by armed Fulani militia.

It urged him to desist from targeting Governor Mutfwang, who, according to the group, has consistently demonstrated solidarity and support for all Plateau people, including Margif’s own community.

The statement noted that Governor Mutfwang personally visited Mushere and other affected communities on June 22, 2025, to console victims, restore hope, and provide relief materials to cushion the impact of the violence.

It added that the Governor had also ordered the completion of a strategic bridge linking Mushere to neighbouring communities to facilitate movement for residents and security personnel.

Buba condemned Margif’s comments, describing them as “unguided” and “self-serving,” and accused him of “living comfortably in Abuja” while ignoring the pain and suffering of his people. He further recalled that, only recently, the Governor dispatched a high-powered delegation led by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, to Mushere to ensure the bridge project was completed without delay.

“It is shocking to hear Mr. Yohanna Margif, who has abandoned his people for several years, accuse Governor Mutfwang of being silent over the attacks. If there is any Governor Plateau State has produced who has stood firmly with his people, it is Governor Mutfwang. Idle minds and shortsighted individuals like Margif should not be allowed to mislead the public with unfounded claims,” Buba stated.

While expressing deep sympathy for the people of Mushere over the sustained violence by killer herdsmen, the group called on the community to remain resilient in defending themselves. It also challenged security agencies to rise to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property or give way for the people to defend their land.

  • Africa’s Public Health System at a Crossroads: A Call for Homegrown Solutions and Global Partnerships

Africa’s Public Health System at a Crossroads: A Call for Homegrown Solutions and Global Partnerships

Africa’s Public Health System at a Crossroads: A Call for Homegrown Solutions and Global Partnerships

    By Abel Leonard

Africa stands on the precipice of a public health renaissance. In the face of rising health challenges from recurring epidemics to a growing burden of non-communicable diseases, there’s a quiet revolution brewing across the continent’s hospitals, labs, and policy rooms. From Lagos to Kigali, Accra to Nairobi, stakeholders are rewriting the narrative around African public health systems not as passive recipients of global aid, but as active architects of solutions uniquely designed for the continent.

Decades of underfunding, brain drain, poor infrastructure, and fragmented policy implementation have stifled progress. Africa shoulders 25% of the global disease burden but has access to only 3% of the world’s health workers and less than 1% of its health expenditure, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). With over 400 million people lacking access to essential healthcare services, the urgency is clear.

Public health experts argue that Africa must pivot from dependency on foreign aid to building resilient, community-based, and data-driven health systems. Dr. John Nkengasong, WHO’s Director-General’s Special Envoy for the Africa CDC, stresses the need for “African-led health sovereignty.”

“Africa cannot continue to rely on external solutions for internal problems,” Dr. Nkengasong said at the Africa Health Agenda International Conference. “We need strong institutions, trained personnel, and a financing model that places public health at the center of development.”

The COVID-19 pandemic was a wake-up call. It exposed the vulnerability of weak systems but also sparked innovation—Africa CDC coordinated continental response strategies, while countries like Rwanda and South Africa quickly developed testing capacities and digital surveillance tools.

In Uganda, community health workers equipped with mobile technology track maternal health data and refer pregnant women to health facilities in real time. Nigeria’s NCDC has become a model for disease surveillance after building one of Africa’s most advanced outbreak detection systems.

In Senegal, the Institut Pasteur in Dakar is developing rapid diagnostic kits and working towards manufacturing vaccines locally. Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme, while not perfect, provides a model for expanding access to healthcare.

These are not anomalies, they represent the future.

“Africa’s solutions are here; they just need to be scaled and funded,” said Dr. Elsie Ilori, a Nigerian epidemiologist and health system consultant. “The continent is brimming with untapped potential, especially among its youth.”

However, a major obstacle remains the health workforce crisis. According to the African Union, the continent needs an additional 6 million health workers to meet minimum health coverage needs. Brain drain continues to deprive systems of skilled professionals, as doctors and nurses migrate in search of better opportunities.

The solution? Invest in health education, fair remuneration, career progression, and dignified work conditions.

“Africa must treat its doctors and nurses as national treasures,” said Dr. Mary Kilonzo, a Kenyan health economist. “Retention is about respect, not just pay.”

Africa imports over 70% of its medicines and 99% of its vaccines. To reduce this dependency, the African Union launched the Partnership for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM), aiming to produce 60% of Africa’s vaccines locally by 2040.

South Africa’s Aspen Pharmacare and Egypt’s VACSERA are leading the charge, but more countries must join this movement to create sustainable pharmaceutical ecosystems.

“We must build from the ground up: research, regulation, production, and distribution,” noted Prof. Paul Nwando of the West African Health Organization. “It’s the only way we build resilience.”

Interms Reforms, Good governance is the backbone of any sustainable health reform. Too often, African health budgets are slashed in favor of more politically rewarding projects. Yet the African Union’s 2001 Abuja Declaration, which mandates that at least 15% of national budgets be allocated to health, remains largely unfulfilled.

“We need leaders who understand that health is an investment, not a cost,” said Dr. Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi and global health advocate.

Some countries are stepping up—Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Botswana have shown that political will, when aligned with clear policy frameworks, can transform public health delivery.

Development experts are now advocating for the establishment of an African Public Health Sovereign Fund, a pooled resource funded by member states, private investors, and international partners—to finance health infrastructure, research, and emergency responses.

Such a fund could provide a financial buffer and reduce overreliance on inconsistent donor funding.

It is important to note that there must be a global role interms of partnership and not paternalism. Africa’s call is not for isolation but for equitable partnerships. Technology transfer, fair trade in medical supplies, and shared research must replace the old model of top-down aid.

“Africa is not asking for handouts. We’re asking for collaboration,” said Dr. Ahmed Ogwell Ouma, Acting Director of the Africa CDC. “A healthy Africa benefits the entire globe.”

There must be a defining moment, the push to transform Africa’s public health systems is not merely about preventing disease, it is about creating a foundation for inclusive development, economic growth, and human dignity. As the world shifts toward regional resilience and health sovereignty, Africa must be at the forefront of shaping its own future.

It is time to rethink, rebuild, and reinvest. Because a healthier Africa is not just possible, it is inevitable.

..Say’s move a threats to unity, step for Islamization

..A precursor sinister agenda, mirroring systems in Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia

    By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A legal practitioner Barr. Alhamdu Pane has expressed concern over the proposed bill to elevate Sultan of Sokoto above all other traditional rulers in Nigeria, warning that the development posed serious threats to the very fabric of the nation’s unity and secularism.

Barr. Pane, in a statement shared on Middle Belt WhatsApp platform Wednesday stated “The proposed bill to elevate the Sultan of Sokoto above all traditional rulers in Nigeria is a deeply concerning development that threatens the very fabric of our nation’s unity and secularism”.

The Middle Belt guru stated that the move is unacceptable and attempt to impose hierarchy system must be rejected, also added “This move, if successful, would be a significant step towards the Islamization of Nigeria, undermining the rights and dignity of non-Muslim citizens”.

According to him, Nigeria is a diverse country, home to people of various faiths, cultures, and traditions, arguing that the county’s constitution enshrines the principles of secularism, ensuring that no one religion is given preference over others.

“It is unacceptable that some individuals are pushing for a system that would grant a religious leader absolute authority over all traditional rulers, regardless of their faith or region.

“The potential consequences of this bill are far-reaching and alarming. If the Sultan were to become the paramount leader of all kings in Nigeria, it could create a power imbalance that would undermine the autonomy of the traditional institutions. This could lead to resentment, conflict, and further division among Nigerians.

“Moreover, the argument that this bill is a precursor to a more sinister agenda, potentially mirroring the systems in Iran, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, cannot be dismissed outright. The implications of such a system would be catastrophic for Nigeria’s democracy and secularism.

“We must recognize that Nigeria is neither an Islamic nor a Christian country; it is a nation built on the principles of unity in diversity. Just as our constitution does not permit a President to lead based on religious affiliation, it is equally unacceptable for a religious leader to be elevated above others based on their faith”, he stated.

The legal luminary also asked “If the Sultan of Sokoto is considered for a paramount role among traditional rulers, would it be fair to allow the CAN President (or any other Christian leader) to be the chairman of traditional rulers?

“The answer is clearly no, as it would be a blatant disregard for the principles of secularism and equality that our nation is built upon”, he answered.

As united stand “We call on all Nigerians, regardless of their faith or region, to rise up and condemn this bill in the strongest terms. We must protect our nation’s unity, secularism, and democracy from those who seek to undermine them”.

“Let us reject this attempt to impose a hierarchical system that would grant undue power to a single religious leader. Instead, we should promote a system that recognizes and respects the diversity of our traditional institutions, ensuring that each is given the autonomy and dignity it deserves.

“The time to act is now. We urge our lawmakers to reject this bill and uphold the principles of secularism and unity that our constitution embodies. We also call on civil society organizations, traditional leaders, and all well-meaning Nigerians to join us in this fight against the Islamization of our country.

“Together, we can protect Nigeria’s unity and ensure that our nation remains a beacon of hope and diversity for generations to come”, the statement highlighted.

Recalled that various institutions across the country have outrightly kicked against the bill for establishment of National council of Traditional Rulers projecting Sultan co-chair, which has passed second reading in NASS.
