  • Setting the Record Straight on Nigerian workers in Central Africa Republic

    PRESS RELEASE

In a recent viral video, six Nigerians in the Central African Republic (C.A.R.) made very gravious allegations against me and included some Chinese companies. the allegations included claims of passport seizure, non-payment of salaries, and abandonment.

However, I, Mr. Abdulrauf Ademola(Nigerian), mentioned in the video want to clarify the whole issue.
Acctully it’s quite simple. I personally signed an agreement and partnered with Dodo Mining Company in C.A.R. And for previous relationships, the Chinese mentioned in the video rented out their machines to me and provided technical support.

The 6 Nigerian who claim their passports seizure. The truth is we are extending their working permit in Bangui for them, and it’s the second time. Because I want to make sure all our people l there have legal identity. Nobody seized their passports at all. Secondly, those 6 said we abandon them, actually there are 10 Nigerian workers there and around 40 of Central African workers with security. One Chinese mechanic just left site last week. Because of the raining season, operation is actually difficult on site, so we decide to decrease the number of workers there. Our workers go off work step by step. So can we define this movement as abandon? Maybe I just missed one of their calls. Thirdly, they claim 10 month’s unpaid salary. The truth is they just arrive the working site like 5 month’s totally, and for several month’s they were in the capital city and we still pay them something, when they went to the site, each of them got paid more than their average salary in Nigeria, plus some welfare for food. The conflicts happened because I delayed like 2 month salary, because of the bad weather and some of these workers have behaved badly there. So we are discussing reducing some of the salary. I know this is the core reason for their use of social media to attract people’s attention. All above I said have legal evidence, I have informed Nigerian embassy in CAR, to investigate it.
I enjoin media organizations please don’t use this chance to exaggerate one small issue inside our company to create crisis between countries. We are peaceful Nigerians. God bless all of you.

This was contained in a statement widely shared by a vigilant group member from Mada town, and confirmed by security analyst Basharu Altine Guyawa Isa.

The reports shared on Saturday stated that the Fulani terrorists leader was neutralized Friday to Saturday morning in Sokoto state, north west Nigeria.

The statement added that “This morning, we bring you the biggest and most relieving news from Eastern Sokoto: brave men have successfully killed the notorious Fulani terrorist known as Ɗari biyar ta fi Bahaushe”.

“This bloodthirsty criminal earned his chilling nickname because he openly declared that “500 naira is worth more than the life of a Hausa person.”

“For years, he has led brutal attacks, burned villages like Gidan Sale, and unleashed terror on places like Unguwar Lalle, Tsamaye, and the forests of Gundumi. Reports say he personally masterminded the murder of over 300 innocent souls, while countless women and girls were kidnapped under his watch.

“What makes his crimes even more outrageous is that despite being invited four times to so-called peace meetings with Ful’ani politicians and some corrupt Nigerian soldiers in Katsina, not for a single moment, did he stop the bloodshed.

“Instead, right after each meeting, he went back to the bush to continue killing and kidnapping our people without remorse.

“Yesterday (Fri 25/07/25), evening, until this morning, in a special joint operation around Turtsawa, Mazau and Zango near Tidibale forest, security forces tracked and cornered him.

“And by the grace of God, they put an end to his evil. He died along with several of his fellow F’ulani terrorists and looking at his corpse today, it is clear: the beast has finally met his bitter end.

“This is a heavy blow not just to the Fulani terror gangs ravaging Sokoto and beyond, but also to the crooked politicians and powerful backers who secretly stood behind them. Today, the people of Sabon Birni and all of Eastern Sokoto will breathe a little easier.

“May his body rot in hell, and may this victory inspire greater efforts to protect innocent lives across our land.

  • Senate approved $21.8bn loan: Mortgaging Nigeria’s future for its present

Senate approved $21.8bn loan: Mortgaging Nigeria’s future for its present

    By Patrick Wemambu

Variously described as ludicrous, escalating and unsustainable, Nigeria’s absurd debt profile has sparked intense debates among economists, policymakers and the citizenry. Rising exponentially in the past decade, the giant of Africa’s public debt reached N144.67trn (some $94.23bn) by the end of 2024 – representing a substantial increase from N10.16trn in 2014.

Standing approximately at ₦149.39 trillion ($97 billion) as of March 2025, with domestic debt accounting for 52.7% and external debt making up 47.3% – the debt-to-GDP ratio rose to around 55%, exceeding the Debt Management Office’s (DMO) self-imposed ceiling of 40%.

Walking down the memory boulevard recently, a popular news agency reported that in just two years, Nigeria has accumulated an alarming number of borrowings. From $750 million in June 2023, the profile ballooned to $800 million in July 2023 – with $7.4 billion plus €100 million accruing as at December 2023.

Likewise, a total of $6.45 billion was obtained from the World Bank by September 2024 and another $2.209 billion in December 2024.

Only last Tuesday, the Senate approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025–2026 external borrowing plan, which includes loans of $21.8 billion, €2.1 billion, and ¥15 billion, along with a €65 million grant, to fund key projects and programmes across multiple sectors of the economy.

Similarly, the red chamber gave approval for the issuance of a ₦757.98 billion Federal Government bond in the domestic market to offset outstanding pension liabilities under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

In addition, President Tinubu’s request was approved to raise up to $2 billion in the domestic market through a Foreign Currency-Denominated Instrument Local Issuance Programme.

Accordingly in deference to extant rules, the approvals followed the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

Notwithstanding the approvals, debate on the floor was tense. Some lawmakers expressed strong reservations about the sustainability of Nigeria’s mounting debt load.

Senator Abdul Ningi was among those who opposed the motion, warning: “Generations after us will continue to pay these loans. I’ve gone through the documents and cannot find a clear repayment plan.”

However, other senators, including Adetokunbo Abiru and Finance Committee Chairman Sani Musa, defended the proposals, describing the loan terms as flexible and growth-oriented.

Ostensibly, this initiative is geared towards investing strategically to stimulate jobs, growth, and foreign exchange inflows.

A significant portion of the domestic bond — ₦757.98 billion — is earmarked for the settlement of longstanding pension arrears. The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of retirees still awaiting full payment of their entitlements.

Happily enough, the DMO is expected to float the bond locally, reducing exposure to external risk.

Juxtaposed against the backdrop of the national public debt projected to exceed N160trn by December 2025, however, the recent external borrowing plans raise grave concerns about sovereign default risks. Unbelievably, debt servicing is said to now consume more than 90% of federal revenue, prompting sharp criticisms from pundits. Little wonder, the ugly scenario has been dubbed mortgaging Nigeria’s future for its present.

Factors contributing to the rising debt profile include the aggressive borrowings, Naira volatility, low revenue mobilisation and escalating debt servicing costs.

Moving forward, experts have recommended expanding the revenue generation base, rationalizing government expenditure and improving fiscal discipline to mitigate associated risks.

  • DG appeals for adherance to Delta Health Insurance Scheme

DG appeals for adherance to Delta Health Insurance Scheme

    By Anne Azuka

The Director General Delta State Contributory Health Commission(DSCHC), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta has appealed to the healthcare providers to comply with the new insurance policy of the commission in handling patients for uptimal service delivery.

Dr. Akpoveta made the appeal in Asaba at a Stakeholders Engagement Session with Civil Servants on Sensitisation around recent updates within the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme(DSCHS).

Dr. Akpoveta who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission disclosed that 2.6 million people have been enrolled in the scheme, noting that it’s the highest in the country.

According to Dr. Akpoveta, we have been going round to the whole state to talk to the Doctors, Nurses, health officers and everybody in the health sector on the need to brought on board, the new policy of the MORE agenda as it concerns the health insurance scheme.

He noted that labour is one of the greatest most serious stakeholder of the scheme.

He commended civil servants for their consistency in paying monthly contributions and praised the state government for its regular counterpart funding, both of which, he noted, sustain the scheme on a daily basis.

“You know that labour is represented in the board and therefore they must know what is going on. As far as their representative is informing them, it is good that I open up a new policy, the new direction and needs to be done to ensure that the scheme is well implemented and well received by the Civil servants.

“So today’s sensitisation is to enlighten the Civil servants on how this policy is being run, what we are doing to protect their interests to ensure that they receive the best of care.

DG DSCHC explained that they were not given enough attention before, adding that in the new policy the commission is putting into the system monitors that monitor the activities in the hospitals on how they attend to civil servants promptly and careful.

“We are also made to monitor at the hospital pharmacy to ensure that the doctors prescription reach out to the people and is well filled and they are not compromised.

“And to ensure that the attention is given to the civil servants as quickly as possible and make them be aware of what is covered and what is not covered.

“So that nobody will deceive them to pay money for what the policy has covered. We also let them know that if they are forced to pay money, they should keep the receipt and bring it to the Commission to enforce the system to refund money to them”, he stressed.

Dr. Akpoveta pointed out that the sensitisation enabled the commission to open up in the transparent way the health insurance should be run with the law to enable civil servants protect themselves and demand for their rights from the commission and from the service providers.

On the level of cooperation and compliance from the hospitals, he stated that” before they were not dispensing drugs to patients, but now the new policy has made to comply, so the policy is working perfectly because even the labour leaders have attested to it. 80 percent of our people are now receiving healthcare”.

He posited that the commission has nabbed a defaulting hospital that claimed it collected N450,000 for caesarian section from patient, saying “we are returning the money to the patient as well as sanction the doctor to pay a hundred thousand naira as punishment for doing that and if it repeats again, we strike off the name of the hospital”.

“If it is a government hospital, we deal with the Medical Director because we cannot remove the government hospital from the scheme but we can remove the doctor and the Commissioner will decide the remotest place to transfer him to.

“Sanction is going on, we have already finished compiling a lot of atrocities in the health system and we do it systematically by inviting them for fair hearing, thereafter we sanction those found wanting and very soon we will unveil them.

“To stop this, we are going to create a platform between the commission and the civil servants so that the complaints will come to us and we deal with the offenders real time”, Akpoveta concluded.

He listed the DSCHC new policy and implementation thrust-2025 to include Pre-registration of Under-5 and Pregnant Women, Service Delivery Monitors, Electronic Encounter systems,  Bundle Payment reform and Upwards Review of Capitation.

Speaking in an interview, the Director of Administration and Human Resources of the commission, Comrade Bolum Martin Nwachukwu said a lot of innovations had taken place since Dr. Akpoveta become the DG in the commission.

” We are hear to sensitise the workers and share ideas with the labour leaders on the new policy of the commission and the way forward  on their challenges since a lot of complaints come from them.

“It’s a beautiful outing because many things they never knew, they come to realise that we need to inform the people what the commission has put in place to ensure a smooth process”, he added.

Kaduna State government donates houses to victims of banditry

    Promises more Support

    By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Tuesday commissioned newly built homes for victims of banditry under the Phase 1 of the Qatar Sanabil Project, a partnership between the Kaduna State Government and Qatar Charity.

The project located at Kakura area of Millennium City, also includes a school, a clinic, and a shopping complex, aimed at restoring dignity and rebuilding lives of families affected by years of insecurity in the state.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Governor Sani declared the initiative as one of the most meaningful actions of his administration.

“This is not just about unveiling buildings,” he said, added, “It is a solemn act of healing a covenant fulfilled. We are telling every widow, orphan, and displaced soul: you are not forgotten. You are honoured. You are home.”

The houses, distributed to families who lost loved ones to banditry, are part of a broader rehabilitation plan the governor described as “a bold gesture of solidarity.”

He emphasized that the homes are not merely physical shelters, but symbols of restored dignity and hope.

“Every brick laid and every key handed over represents more than housing — it’s the return of peace and security to communities once shattered by violence,” he added.

Governor Sani acknowledged that the scars of banditry run deep, with communities erased, schools destroyed, and dreams disrupted. “But he affirmed that beyond military operations and peace models, lasting recovery must involve rebuilding lives and livelihoods”.

“Restoration must follow security,” he said. “Because safety without healing is hollow, and peace without dignity is incomplete.”

Under Phase 1 of the Qatar Sanabil Project, affected families also received empowerment tools such as tricycles, grinding machines, salon kits, and welding equipment to help them regain economic independence.

“We’re not just giving out homes — we’re building futures,” Governor Sani noted. “True empowerment means helping people stand on their own feet with pride and purpose.”

The governor also commissioned a new school to provide free education for children of affected families, a clinic to serve their health needs, and a skills acquisition center for youth and women.

He praised Qatar Charity for its “extraordinary commitment to global solidarity,” and expressed gratitude to the Qatari Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Ali Bin Ghanem Al-Hajri, and the Country Director of Qatar Charity, Sheikh Hamdi Abdu, for their dedication to the project.

Governor Sani further thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, for their roles in stabilizing Kaduna’s security landscape.

Assuring citizens that this was just the beginning, he announced that Phase 2 of the project would soon begin, bringing more homes, schools, clinics, and boreholes to affected communities.

“To the resilient families receiving homes today — you are not defined by your loss but by your strength,” Governor Sani said. “You are not victims; you are survivors. You are our heroes.”
