2014 CONMES: NMA Tasks Kogi Govt. On Implimentation Process

    By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The state chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, (NMA), Dr Omakoji Simeon Oyiguh on Tuesday  called on the Kogi State Government to prioritize the implementation of the Revised 2014 CONMESS from September 2020 as agreed.

The Chairman made the call when the executive members of the Association paid Courtesy visit to the Olu of Oworo land, HRM. Mallam Mohammed Adoga Baiyerohi Agbosi II on Tuesday in Lokoja.

Dr  Oyiguh noted that their counterparts in Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja and other neighbouring states have been  benefiting for over six years stressing that they are yet to  negotiate with the government to implement the new minimum wage since the funds accruing to the State is dwindled.

” It is very important for the Kogi State Government to improve on the welfare of doctors as they have continued to lay down their lives for the people. It will be very disastrous if Kogi State witness another mass exodus of doctors” he emphasized.

According to him, government is a thing of continuity, as he commended the election that brought him to power adding that he is determined to make NMA more vibrant and visible in the next two years.

He described as worrisome the continuous closure of FMC Lokoja stressing that many residents had been denied accessibility to good health care service since they could not afford the fee of some private hospitals which according to him is on the higher side in a depressed economy.

He said ” We have been calling for the reopening of FMC Lokoja that has been closed for over three months after suspected hoodlums invaded the centre. The people of Kogi State are the one’s receiving the effect of this closure.

The chairman however commended the State House of Assembly in their role towards  the reopening of the hospital adding that there is need for all relevant stakeholders to come together to ensure that the citizens get good health care delivery.

The Chairman, while commending the immediate past administration of the association led by Dr Kabir Zubair for his  achievements in two years hinted that they are in the palace of the paramount ruler to get his blessing and secure partnership for the success of the organization.

Responding, the Olu of Oworo land Mallam Mohammed Adoga Baiyerohi Agbosi II while wishing the new executive a very prospective tenure said his reign in Lokoja has been eventful and fruitful.

He admonished doctors to engage the government with adequate dialogue, greeted with patience and humility in a bid to achieve their welfare package in the state.

On the closure of FMC , the paramount ruler maintained that dialogue is never exhausted, adding that it is a continuous process which should be looked upon towards achieving the goals of medical doctors in the state.

Insecurity: No Hidden Place For Criminals In Kogi, as Govt open up Roads To Notorious Uttu Forest

    By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Kogi state government has said there is no hidden place for armed bandits in the state as it has opened up the access road leading to the notorious Uttu forest which is the den of criminal armed bandits terrorizing people of Nasarawa and Kogi states.

The opening up of the access road is to make it easy for clearance operations by the men of the Nigerian Army following the recent bombardment that led to the arrests of several kidnappers and bandits in July.

“During the operation, no fewer than 778 family members of suspected terrorists and bandits consisting mostly women and children were rescued by troops and several suspected terrorists were neutralized and large cache of arms and ammunition were captured from the criminals.”

Recall that the Nasarawa state government had similarly opened up a road from its area to access the forest which is located in Toto local government that borders both Kogi and Nasarawa states.

The Nigerian Army high command in a statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public relations, Col Sagir Musa, on Monday commended the Kogi state government for its efforts in opening up the area for easy accessibility.

The statement reads; “The Nigerian Army (NA) wishes to appreciate and commend the Kogi State Government for heeding its advice conveyed through the Commander 4 Special Forces Command Doma to construct access road from Kpokpolobi to Uttu Forest.

“The opening of the road will no doubt minimise if not eradicate incessant banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery incidences committed by fleeing terrorists and armed bandits in the entire area.”

It would be recalled that on the 20th of September 2020, the 4 Special Forces Command of the Nigerian Army located in Doma Nasarawa State, conducted clearance operations in Uttu – Kpokpolobi forest and contiguous hills in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State where identified terrorists’ hideouts were destroyed.

“It should be noted that opening up access into such remote and isolated areas will no doubt enhance the general security in the areas and also bring succor to law abiding citizens living in the localities.”

“It would be recalled that on the 28th of September 2020, the Nasarawa State Government, on the advice of the Nigerian Army commenced the opening up of access through Kenyehu Uttu Forest and contiguous hills in Toto Local Government Area of the state.”

“The Nigerian Army called on other states to emulate the good examples of the Governments of Nasarawa and Kogi States in this strategic efforts.”

“The Army reassure the general public that it remains resolute and focused in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminalities in Nigeria.”

  • Nasarawa govt has an economic blue print—Dr. Ikrama

Nasarawa govt has an economic blue print—Dr. Ikrama

Since the independence of Nigeria in the 1960 till date, what can you say has changed?

Dr. Ikrama: I think everything has changed in Nigeria from 1960 till date. In 1960 Nigeria’s population was about 45 million and now we have about 200 million or so. If you look at all facets of life , there has been remarkable improvement. In the education sector, when we got independence, Nigeria had only one university but now every state in the country has at least one federal university, state university and other tertiary institutions.

Look at roads, communication and every sector, you will say Nigeria has improved. I think we have a lot of things that we have achieved. There are things we would like to achieve which we have not achieved but there is room for improvement.

Let’s talk about the present government, What would you say the government is doing?

Dr. Ikrama: I think the present administration is doing well. The government came when Nigeria was already in a recession. So, the plan at that time the government needed to bring us out of the ditch and it has done that. This administration has tried indeed.

In terms of the economy, you don’t do magic with national economy but I will give the government a passed mark at least.

Nasarawa is now 24, from creation till now, what has changed?

Dr. Ikrama: Before we became a state, there was what we call rural towns even Lafia. Before 1996 if you wanted to go to school you had to go to Unijos and others but now we have 2 universities and every local government has a general hospital and some have even two.

The present government in the state has an operation platform, what can you say about the state development so far?

Dr. Ikrama: I think the government has started on a solid footing. This government has an economic blueprint of NEDS that is well spelt out. Secondly, is the issue of continuity which is not the case in other places. This government is on the right track and it’s ensuring that it maintains frugality. The governor has lieutenants that are willing to work with him.

Let’s look at COVID-19 pandemic, how do you see the situation in dealing with it?

With regards to COVID-19, Nasarawa State is one of the most active States in dealing with COVID-19. When COVID-19 came a lot of training were done and our staff too trained other health workers across general hospitals in the state.

The government brought state-of-the-art medical facilities and isolation centres for COVID-19 fully functional with adequate manpower to manage the scourge.

I think the government has supported us and we can just say thank you to Nasarawa State Government.

In few words, what do you think is the future of Nigeria and Nasarawa State?

Dr. Ikrama: I am very optimistic that the future of the country is bright with the current crop of leadership. Specifically, let me speak about Nasarawa State, our governor, to me he will be more comfortable not being a governor but because he wants to give back to the society, he had to come back from the U.S. to man big organizations and was able to make it out. So, with this commitment from the crop of leadership, the future will be bright.

  • Restructuring: Collapse 36 states into six geopolitical Zones –Tanko Yakasai

Restructuring: Collapse 36 states into six geopolitical Zones –Tanko Yakasai

    ..Is the only way out

    By Ujah Simon, Kaduna

Elder stateman and former Adviser to President late Shehu Shagari on National Assembly Liaison, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has suggested that the 36 States should be collapsed into six geopolitical zones of the country to save public funds and ease governance.

Yakasai, the first republic politicans and a founding member of the defunct NEPU, who disclosed this in an interview on the 60th anniversary of Nigeria, argued that collapsing the current 36 states into the six geopolitical zones would curtail unccessesary expenditure and reduced burden on public fund meant for development.

He also observed that the power of control of political parties by Presidents and Governors, wining elections without merit and used of money to buy judgement in the nation’s justice system, have destroyed the country and hindered it from achieving its potential as a great Nation.

He said despite hitches here and there, there was need for Nigerians to jubilate over its 60th birthday because God that made it possible for the people to survived living together for 60 years as an independence nation created through the British colonialist.

“So is a source of expression of gratitude to God almighty who made it possible for the creation of Nigeria through British colonial system.
“He created it as a biggest black African concentrated country in the world, with a very large territory with mineral resources deposit, given by God and with a very large population”, he said.

He said the two things that made a nation, worldwide, is  territory and population, adding that if God has given you this two things, He has give you everything. “Its up to you to work hard and realize the potential contained in your Nation. So if we work hard we’ll solve our problems. “People of every nation has problem. The citizens work hard to overcome the problems. In particular,

Nigeria has different endowment. North has large vast of land that can feed the Nation for many years to come, the Soutth has big ports and agile people as an advantage to complement one another”, he noted. Elder Yakasai also noted that Nigeria would not be important if they’re not living together as one nation.”If we’re not together we’ll not be important. During  President Jonathan era, when big countries of the world, about 19 or 20 of them, were meeting, they didn’t invite any other country except Nigeria because of our population. And that’s the potential that we’re going to be a great nation in the future, that is why they invited us so that we should be involved in all the decisions that was going to be taken for the future.
“But unfortunately, military intervention from 1966, destroyed all the effort that we started. For instance, at the time of Independence, you can go to Lagos or P/H from Kano today, and by tomorrow your there by rail but now u can’t do that. “We destroyed the whole thing. I use to leave Kano by 12 o’clock and by 5pm next-day in Lagos. The same thing with people going to P/Harcourt, but now is not possible”, he said.Interms of education , he said throughout the British rule in Nigeria, they only gave Nigeria only University college lbadam which was not a full fledge University. “A college of a university in London. Nigerians who went to the University college were not given lbadam University college certificate when they graduate, but of British University graduate.
“Today, in Nigeria we have over 200 university within 60yrs period, is a big achievements.

He however lamented that Nigeria airways, in 1966, had one aircrafts each to different countries, but expressed surprised that the country don’t have airline of Nigeria which has one single aircraft each., because of military incursion into politics that destroyed them. “Also because of politics of money driven election and so on which is the creation of military rule.

“Now you don’t win election based  on merit but on how much you can spend. And if you have to look for big money to win election, if you got elected, you look for ways of recouping your money and making profits.
“Awolowo, Zik were elected on their merit and Tafawa Balewa, the Sardauna, all of them. They didn’t spend money because people believed in them and their commitment. “But today no body, even when people are talking of Tinubu, what’s working in their mind is that he is the only person who has the necessary funds to afford to contest presidential election and win. The same thing with Atiku. “Nobody will think of anybody because of his ideas but everybody will be thinking of people with money who can contest election and win. The same thing with people who are looking for LG councillor, Chairman of LG, state assembly, house of reps, Senate or Governor.

“They all think of your money and how much you can command to win election, not what ideas you have to better the lot of the country. Is
“Unlike leaders now, the leaders we had in past like Aminu Kano, JS Taka, Awolowo, alot of them that we had in Nigeria, think of ideas that will better the lot of the country.
“What I’m saying is that if we had continue with that tri-jetory, everybody in Nigeria, would have been higher by now. “But if we compare Nigeria with South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, even Singapore, Nigeria is nowhere near these countries, why, because of those intervention that destroyed politics of ideology and created politics of money power.

“There three things we must do, a time will come, if we don’t do it now, one-day we’ll do is to change the political parties history. “Our political Party history was destroyed the day Obasanjo, as President, declared himself as leader of his party PDP. “A position that was not incorporated into the constitution of the party. He created it, and at that time there’s nobody that can become anything in the federal government except through the consent of Obasanjo. “You cannot be a Chairman, and nobody. Three consecutive times that Obasanjo removed the national working Committee of PDP including the national Chairman and national Secretary and appointed people of his own.

“And he appointed also a designated Governors as party leaders in their respective States. “So 37 of them decided the faith of Nigeria. You cannot be a massenger in your political party at the national level if the president is not happy with you, including the states, if Governors are not happy with you. And this is what’s happening now. “So a day will come when we shall do away with this, and go back to the original idea of Action Group, NCNC, NEPU, NPC, whereby parties are owned by their members not by premier, prime minister. Prime Minister was an equal member and sat among the people in the party. And in those days we had better elections. people tend to respect themselves of elections. In those days, not now anymore. Election is nothing in Nigeria now. Is vandalised. Is the winner takes all. Is money that decides who get elected. “Number three, we use to enjoy justice system in our court. Today a clever person we look for money, go for contract to make alot of money and wait for election to come and decide how much money he has to spend to make him win, which election, if it’s the presidential election or governortorial, Senatorial, reps, state assembly, LG chairman or councillor. The size of your porket determine which political office that you aspires to vie and you use your money for that office. “But when you go for elections, as innocent popular candidate make out possible times as you are. Your elected by the people but they’ll then change the election. “Election Commission will manipulate the system, and the person who gave them money gets the result. Even where they managed to conduct free and fair election and you got elected, a clever person with money will go to court and court will take away the mandate given to you and give it to him because of his money.”This three things destroyed the country. And untill we come back and put them right, by ensuring that political party are control by its members, good, credible and fowl-free election, and Justice without money. These three things, until we get them right, well continue to destroy our system”,he noted.According to Yakasai, only lazy people who don’t look deep to see what’s the cause of the problem that are saying that the country will break up. “If we divide Nigeria today, remember, there’ll more problems. Initially we have 3 regions, but as people agitated for more States –Midwest was first created during the first republic. And people said they’re not satisfied, they insisted for more states, we created 12. Yet people were not satisfied until now we have 36 states. “The more  states we’ve, the more of our problems. So if we separate, and create 36 Nations, the problem in this 36 nation will be ten times, even a hundred times than the problem we are now experiencing now, because the security cannot be able to handled it until you have enough resources.
For those who are looking for state police, to set it up required alot of things. All need money, training, adequate salary. If you take people as police and not paying them adequate salary they’ll go and conive with armed robbers and take into crimes themselves. “Now you need to accommodate, not hire barracks for them where they’ll not mingle with civilian to influenced criminals. And then you need weapons which is very expensive thing because armed robbers are buying very expensive weapon, Ak 47. Armed police with AK 47 cost alot of money. Now your not able to armed Nigeria police with AK 47, enough, if u divide Nigeria into whatever it is, you’ll have to provide enough money to provide barracks, weapons for the police, not to talk of the army.
“If you split Nigeria army into whatever it’s, let say into 36, the more you split them the weaker they’re. Yes, insurgence will deal with them over night.
“See insurgence in Borno, why we still fight insurgence is because people from Anambra, Oyo, Sokoto, Borno all come together to go to that area in Borno to fight them. If you leave it for Borno people alone they cannot cope. Unity means Guarantee for security for people to sleep with your eyes closed. “Your from Benue, if you make Benue state a country now, you cannot even sleep with one eyes closed. You can’t buy a car because people stronger than you will come and take the car away, in your presence. There is nothing you can do. You cannot even marry a goooy wife, somebody will take her away, yes.
“Create 2, 3, 5 States. The more you create states the less the quality of governance. You can see, the quality of governance is better when we’re 3 zones than now when we have 36 States. So is better with this 36 states now that we can manager. Bring your own, I bring my own, otherwise we can’t cope. Because we’ve to synergies; issue of security is something we can tackle through synergy.
Today we’ve more sins because of more states and we’re spending more than 70% of our revenue, federal and states, because of bureaucracy – building Secretariat, employing SSGs, Governors, deputy, permsecs,  commissioners, Ministers etc. “So all our money went to sustain them. We’re now dealing with 30% not enough for us to develop our country – build railways, airport, ports, power for electricity to generate power for industries.
“So, is lazy people who don’t think far away of the consequences of their thought. Don’t mind them. People now are changing from agitating for more States into agitation for collapsing the states into geopolitical zones. “In other words, they’re admitting that the creation of more states is not the answer. They’re saying we should go back to regional set up. “The only thing is that instead of the original four, we should go back to six because we’re six groupings. Actually there are three groupings naturally in the South. Yoruba, Igbo are distinct and also distinct from the those in the South-South.
In the North, we don’t have this distinction naturally. We’ve Idoma which is related to Hausa people, both Tiv, ldoma, Hausa, Fulani all came from middle East by origin. Go through your origination, you find that Tiv are from middle East. So we’re from the same root. This is the reason why we’ve the same attitude, life and thesame culture, with the man in Borno in Benue, Sokoto. We’re not distinctly like that of three groups in South.
Our three geopolitical zones: NorthWest, East, Central are artificial. There not like Yoruba, one tribe. So many tribes. Even Benue with the largest concentration of non Muslims still have Muslims among Idomas and Tivs. We’ve Emirs in Kano, Sokoto, Tor Tiv. Igbos have Ezes with different from Tor Tiv. Och’idoma amongst others. End.

  • ON THE MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S UTOPIA

    By Emmanuel Onwubiko

The harsh experiences of the last five years, tell us only one message – that  erstwhile  military  dictators from our clime are not suitable to lead a constitutional  democracy and that no matter how long a former tyrant stays out of the confines of the regimented life of the military, it is not so easy to ‘deradicalize’ a military officer   that he can mount the rostrum as an elected national leader, and  be subjected to critical scrutiny and constant  Civil society-led  pressure  and evaluations.

A military General who is acclimatized to the regimented life of ORDER IS ORDER or OBEY BEFORE COMPLAINTS,  will find it almost impossible to adapt to the democratic regiment of doing that which the electorate want since the voters and the rest of the citizens are the owners of the Sovereignty of Nigeria and it is from the people that those in the positions of authority get their legitimacy to exercise authority.  This is the difference between what the late President Umaru Musa Yaradua called ‘SERVANT LEADERSHIP’ as a sharp contrast from the experiences we have been crudely subjected to since 2015 which is loudly passing the wrong message that the President is above any kind of correction since in the warped imagination of some uninformed spinspin doctors masquerading about as media spokesperson, the President is all knowing.
A major sign that an elected erstwhile military despot will  inevitably find it difficult to wear a new toga of a democrat ready to practice the trade of democracy which states that democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people,  emerged when against all constitutional safeguards, the occupant of the number one national office in the person of president Muhammadu Buhari, Supervised the disobedience of several  court orders and proceeded to keep erstwhile national security  Adviser colonel Sambo Dasuki and the leader of the Islamic movement of Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Elzakzacky back  in detention for years since early 2015 when President Buhari assumed office.  Dasuki recently regained freedom but the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria as well as hìs wife and dozens of his followers are languishing in different derelict prisons for simply wanting to freely worship the way they are used to without harming the society.
Also, the ARBITRARY ARRESTS of civilians protesting some of the policies of the current administration show that President Muhammadu Buhari is not cut out for the practice of constitutional democracy as it were.
However, the gross undermining of the sanctity of the constitutionally guaranteed fundamental principles of SEPARATION OF POWERS by President Muhammadu Buhari is that which inevitably benchmarks the gravity of the crisis of governance that the 2015 inauguration of the government created.
Let us now read the position of the law regarding the action of the president to disregard the binding judgements of the competent court of law as espoused by the then justice of the supreme court of Nigeria, Justice Niki Tobi, (Con).
“With respect, it is difficult to agree with the Supreme Court on the first reason it gave for disobeying court order. It is trite law that a judgement or ruling delivered is presumed to be correct until set aside by a competent court of appeal. While an appellant is free to content in his ground or grounds of appeal that a judgement or ruling is wrong on ground of lack of jurisdiction that cannot or should not be accepted until ratified by a court of appeal after due process of the appeal. Therefore, an appellant cannot, or should not be given the almighty power to determine unilaterally or suo motu that the order is disobeyed because it was made by the court without jurisdiction and therefore not worthy of obedience. Jurisdiction is a very wide and amorphous concept in the judicial process. The legal consequences of lack of it by the court approximates to a bulldozer in terms of the complete destruction or annihilation of the entire case or procedure however competently handled by the court. Accordingly, it is unfair to a court of law to vest in an appellant the power to determine the lack of jurisdiction on the part of the court as basis for disobedience of the court order.”

“The following principles of law emerge as consequence of disobedience of court orders and judgements in the light of the two cases examined above:1.    An appellate court cannot, while an applicant is in disobedience of a court order, equitably consider an application for stay of execution;2.    Once a court is seized of a matter, no party has a right to take the matter into his own hands 3.    Nobody (including Government) is entitled to take the law into his own hands 4.    The grant of stay of execution is entirely within the discretion he must bring his conduct within the legitimate scope of the exercise of the discretion. Hence, where he is in continuing disobedient of the order of a court of law, it is not legitimate to consider the exercise of the discretion in his favour. The contumacious behaviour is more egregious and censorious where the applicant seeks that discretion of the court to endorse such behaviour”
Niki Tobi further Said: “A Government in a democracy which fails or refuses to obey court orders and judgements is not a friend to democracy. But rather a foe. Such a government is working at cross purpose with democracy. It is not a civilised government capable of functioning in the 21 century Nigeria operating a vibrant democracy. Such a Government behave in that way.”

That was the vintage Justice Niki Tobi. Aside these observations by the reputable jurist, many other actions that have happened that shape the opinion of most analysts that the current administration has undermined the constitutional principles of separation of powers are too numerous to examine within the context of this article.

This piece is to examine the impressions being created by some officials of president Buhari’s office that the President is beyond reproach and cannot be put under democratic pressures to take steps to promote greater openness and ensure rapid law-based nation building processes. These TENDENCIES are not just injurious to the essence,  significance and symbolism of constitutional democracy but they are ABSOLUTELY ANTITHETICAL to what the Nigerian Constitution says or are these media officials of Government out of tune with the extant laws of the land including the Constitutional norm that obliges all citizens to partake in the day to day running of the administration of their native land?
Two principal characters have emerged within the Buhari’s government who have the unlearned and unpolished habits of continuously assaulting  the Sensibilities and sensitivities of critical segments of the Nigerian society.

THESE anti democratic forces surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari and acting as his spokesmen are the special adviser on media and senor special assistant on media – namely Mr. Femi Adesina and Mr.  Garba Shehu.

Both of these men have been firing unintelligently and blindly from all cylinders and thus are creating the perception that the presidency is such an utopia that Nigerians cannot subject to critical analysis.

Their naked show of crude forms of intoxication of political powers and abuse of office shows that they are operating like a TABULA RASA that are absolutely unaware of the qualities and attributes of constitutional democracy and the pivotal role of pluralism and plurality of opinions in the evolution of real constitutionalism. To have such reactionary forces near the seat of power is perhaps the most tragic phenomenon to have befallen our modern day democracy and this is why Nigeria rather than advance rapidly in all aspects, is rapidly being destroyed by these characters holding strategic policy making offices.
Some of their opinions are even directed at very patriotic Nigerians who are not politicians and whose only interests are for the preservation of Nigeria. These iconic Nigerians whose words of wisdom ought to be adopted by the President for pur common good,  are men and women that do not feed Mr. President with lies only for what they can get as pecks and pecuniary offers from the corridors of power.
These great persons whose strongly principled opinions are being met with crude and totally uninformed diatribes of Femi Adesina and his co-traveller Garba Shehu are accomplished men and women who are not government contractors or errand boys like Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu.

In the recent times, such persons as the Bishop of Sokoto   Dr. Mathew Hassan Kukah, the General overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God Reverend Enoch Adeboye and many other revered Nigerians whose main reason for speaking out, is for the common good of Nigeria are being attacked by the spokesmen of President Muhammadu Buhari. Watching these two uncultured office holders to then unleash venomous attacks on these iconic Nigerians and other Civil rights groups for voicing their  opinions on how best to promote an open society is to put it wildly, very irresponsible.

What did the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye said when he only just added his voice to the national issue of restructuring. Speaking at a symposium to mark the 60th Independence anniversary put together by the RCCG and the Nehemiah Leadership Institute on Saturday, Pastor Adeboye said restructuring Nigeria must be done as soon as possible prevent a disintegration. The cleric, as quoted by the media  said: “Why can’t we have a system of government that will create what I will call the United States of Nigeria? Let me explain. We all know that we must restructure. It is either that we restructure or we break, you don’t have to be a prophet to know that one. That is certain – restructure or we break up. “Now, we don’t want to break up, God forbid. In the restructuring, why don’t we have a Nigerian kind of democracy? At the federal level, why don’t we have a President and a Prime Minister?” Adeboye also added that the place of traditional rulers must be re-evaluated as they are “the actual landlords” that “control the respect of their people”. On his part, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, had described the Nigerian government as “Islamic fundamentalists without bombs.”

The Bishop’s view was made available to Vanguard in Owerri by the Diocesan Director of Social Communication, DDSC, Rev. Fr. Chris Omotosho. According to the DDSC, the Bishop, who was apparently angered by the seemingly endless waste of lives, equally reasoned that “the only difference between the government and Boko Haram is that Boko Haram is holding a bomb.” Making reference to the beheading of 10 Christians by Islamist militants in Nigeria which has sparked worldwide condemnation, the Bishop accuses the government of “using different methods to achieve the same goal of Islamic dominance.” Kukah, who was particularly irked by the Christmas Day attack by loyalists of Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, as well as an attack by Boko Haram terrorists on Christmas Eve, also expressed disgust with the Federal Government, when he spoke to members of Catholic Charity Aid to the Church in Need. Bishop Kukah also accused the Federal Government of “using the levers of power to secure the supremacy of Islam, which then gives more weight to the idea that it can be achieved by violence.” These very top quality words of the  prominent Nigerians, have not in any way gone out of the expected roles that such respected statesmen should from time to time play to redirect the steps of government officials towards promoting and protecting the principles of rule of law and to preserve the unity of Nigeria or how does the philosophical words of such a respected person like professor Wole Soyinka offend any known principles of democracy only because the statesman made few remarks urging the president to arrest the rapid decline of national security?
is it not true that Nigeria is witnessing some of the worst case scenarios of insecurity and instability? it is not true that some sections of Nigeria feel that they are not fairly treated and therefore necessitating such calls by Pastor Adeboye, Kukah, Soyinka and others for Fundamental reforms and restructuring?

Why then should the duo of Adesina and Shehu be allowed by president Buhari to continue to unleash misdirected venomous verbal violence against well meaning citizens in a constitutional democracy whereby the plurality of opinions must be tolerated and respected?

A brief look at some diatribes of Adesina and Garba will surfice to show that they may be living in a fantasy world
Adesina claimed that some people had wanted to use the suspended strike as an opportunity to take a pound of flesh, which they calculated would weaken the government so much, and influence the 2023 elections. He described those who fell under the category as enemies of the country. The statement read in part, “Since organised labour toed the path of sense and sensibility last week, seeing reason with the imperatives of fuel price adjustment, and opening a further window of dialogue on the service-based electricity tariff, some groups of Nigerians have been dolorous, disgruntled, and disconsolate. “They had apparently perfected plans to use the strike by the labour unions as smokescreen to unleash anarchy on the land, fomenting mayhem and civil disobedience.”
Garba Shehu then followed with these disastrous words: “THE Presidency responds to the recurring threats to the corporate existence of the country with factions giving specific timelines for the President to to do one thing or another or else, in their language, “the nation will break up.”

“This is to warn that such unpatriotic outbursts are both unhelpful and unwarranted as this government will not succumb to threats and take any decision out of pressure at a time when the nation’s full attention is needed to deal with the security challenges facing it at a time of the Covid-19 health crisis.
Repeat: this administration will not take any decision against the the interests of 200 million Nigerians, who are the President’s first responsibility under the constitution, out of fear or threats especially in this hour of health crisis

    .
The President as an elected leader under this constitution will continue to work with patriotic Nigerians, through and in line with the Parliamentary processes to finding solutions to structural and other impediments to the growth and wellbeing of the nation and its people.”
THESE functional illiterates of Constitutional democracy must stop denigrating Nigeria’s great men and women just for short term political and pecuniary gains. The truth is that the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria must be subjected to constructive criticisms and the President is obliged to listen that is if his agenda is for nation building devoid of Ethno Religious interests. President Muhammadu Buhari must call his academically ill equipped Media assistants to show respect when men and women of letters are speaking for the common good.

Aftermath of Edo election: Captain Hosa allegedly taken ill, flown to London hospital

One of the main financiers of APC Candidate, Ize Iyamu in the just concluded Edo governorship election, Captain Hosa Okunbo has allegedly taken ill and flown to a London hospital for medical attention.

A source in his camp who spoke to Daybreak News on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Captain Hosa has not been himself since the outcome of the Edo governorship election in which he staked his political fortune and resources against PDP candidate and winner, Godwin Obasaki

The source disclosed that Captain Hosa, when it became obvious that the APC has lost the election called his aids and said, “its finished, I am leaving Edo”. Captain Hosa has been in Lagos since licking his wound.

He is alleged to have suddenly take ill few days ago and collapsed suddenly before his doctor made arrangements for him to be flown to the UK for further treatment.

Daybreak News recalled that Captain Hosa had before the election vowed to use his life savings to ensure that Obaseki is removed from office. Unfortunately his wish never came to pass as his camp was trounced in the most embarrassing manner. Captain Hosa lost his ward and local government council to Godwin Obaseki of the PDP.

Although Hosa had congratulated Obaseki after his victory, his health problem has been allegedly connected to speculations that Governor Obaseki has him on his radar over an alleged multi billion naira contract scam in the state.

Sources close to the Edo State Goverment House told Daybreak News that Hosa was dragged into a needles battle with Obaseki by Adams Oshiomhole who was alleged to have promised him a clean slate over the said contract scam if Ize-Iyamu won the election.

Besides speculations from public space, Daybreak News recalled that in the build up to Adams Oshiomhole’s election for the national chairmanship of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, an Edo group, Edo Political Renaissance Network (EPRN) had threatened to expose the serial looting of Edo state treasury and the NNPC crude facilities by the operators of Ocean Marine Securities Organization (a company owned by Captain Hosa) to protest the interest shown by a former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the position of the National Chairmanship of the APC

The group had in a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari said that APC’s resolve to make Oshiomhole its national chairman would not only amount to desicration of the President”s anti graft war but also interfere with the EFCC probe of the former Edo State Governor.

The group also alleged that Oshiomhole used Captain Hosa to launder money in the guise of contracts awarded that were never executed.

“We have on record that Adams Oshiomhole had earlier in his administration awarded the inflated contract for the construction of the now failed Musical Fountain at Oba Ovoranmwen Square at a whopping sum of N600millon to this same Donaldson Okunbo, the group alleged.

“This was at the same time that Servtek Construction Company owned by his elder brother, Capt. Hosa Okunbo got the over N40billion contract for the reconstruction of Airport Road, Benin City, which was cancelled by the state government because of his inability to interpret the road design. Sadly, Capt has since refused to refund the over 60% mobilization payment to the coffers of government, it added.
