Bandit Attack in Zamfara: Three Dead, District Head and 50 Others Abducted

By Daniel Edu

In a distressing incident in the mining village of Bagega, Zamfara State, over 50 individuals, including a district head, women, and children, have reportedly been abducted, while three others lost their lives in an attack by bandits.

Local residents who confirmed the incident described how the assailants, riding motorcycles, descended upon the village on Tuesday morning, firing indiscriminately and setting several houses ablaze.

The village head, Abubakar Uba, verified the attack and explained that the gunmen initially targeted the district head’s residence. They abducted the district head and three members of his household before moving further into the village to commit further violence.

As of the time of reporting, attempts to reach the state police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, for official comments on the incident were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages. The situation underscores the ongoing security challenges in parts of Zamfara State, where banditry and kidnappings have caused significant distress among local communities.
