The Plateau Progressive Movement (PPM) has called for the arrest and prosecution of Senator Shehu Umar Buba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, over alleged links with banditry.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Dachum Daniel Kajang, and made available to journalists in Kaduna, the group also urged the Senate to strip Senator Buba of his position, insisting that the allegations against him undermine public confidence in national institutions.
According to PPM, the senator is accused of inciting violence in Toro and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of Bauchi State, leading to loss of lives and creating fear among residents. The group further alleged that Buba facilitated medical treatment for injured bandits and was linked to a video clip showing arms and motorcycles being moved from his residence to Zamfara.
“This blatant disregard for the law emboldens criminal elements and undermines security efforts. It is imperative that the Senate acts swiftly to restore public confidence and demonstrate that no one is above the law,” the statement read.
The movement said the gravity of the allegations required urgent action, warning that failure to act would send a dangerous message that political connections can shield individuals from accountability.
However, reacting to the allegations, Senator Buba’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Comrade Sabo Muhammad, dismissed them as political victimization.
He described the claims as “malicious, unfounded, and part of a smear campaign to weaken the senator’s rising profile.”
Muhammad maintained that there is relative peace in Toro and Tafawa Balewa and that Senator Buba has no link to insecurity in Bauchi State. He stressed that the allegations lack specifics, such as names of alleged bandits treated in hospitals or evidence tying the senator to criminal activities.
He added that the attacks would not deter Senator Buba from carrying out his legislative duties as the only APC senator from Bauchi Sta
