Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted six people, including a relative of the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Bishop Hassan Kukah, in Anchuna village, Ikulu Chiefdom, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to local sources, the attack occurred on Wednesday night, causing panic as the assailants stormed the village in large numbers, shooting sporadically before taking their victims to an unknown destination.
A resident and family member of the Kukahs, Mr. Samuel Kukah, confirmed the incident, stating that his younger brother, Ishaya Kukah, was among those abducted.
“My brother, Ishaya Kukah, was the only male among the abductees; the rest are women and children. The attackers struck around 11 p.m.,” he said.
He added that the family has not yet established contact with the kidnappers, nor has any ransom been demanded. “We are praying for their safe return while we anxiously wait for their call,” he said.
Kukah also urged security agencies to take swift action to secure their release, emphasizing that most of those kidnapped were vulnerable individuals.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report, Elanza News also reported.
Meanwhile, residents of the community have continued to call for intensified security measures to address the recurring attacks in the area.
It will be recalled that on January 2, 2018, Yohanna Kukah, a paramount ruler of the Ikulu Kingdom and brother to Bishop Kukah, was kidnapped from his residence in Anchuna village, Zangon Kataf LGA. He was released after spending nine days in captivity.
