Bandits Abduct Two Sisters in Southern Kaduna Community

Bandits have attacked Maraban Rido community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting two sisters during a late-night raid, residents and family members confirmed on Tuesday.

The victims were identified as Deborah Edward, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who completed her service in December 2025, and her younger sister, Rachael Edward. The attack occurred at their family residence on Monday night.

According to their mother, Mrs. Alice Edward, a widow, the assailants initially abducted her alongside her two daughters and a visitor, identified as Priscilla, who was spending the night. She said the attackers later released her after her daughters pleaded that she was their only surviving parent.

Priscilla, who is currently receiving medical treatment, said she was severely beaten after Mrs. Edward was released. She told journalists that the attackers assaulted her until she lost consciousness and left her behind, believing she was dead. She regained consciousness the following morning and was assisted by a passerby.

The incident comes barely two weeks after the abduction of scores of worshippers in Kurmin Wali community, further heightening concerns over insecurity in parts of Southern Kaduna.

A community leader, Pastor Solomon Emmanuel, said residents remain vulnerable to attacks and appealed for increased security presence in the area.

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, for official comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Residents have continued to call on security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further attacks and secure the release of those abducted.
