Suspected bandits have killed a prominent businessman, Aloysius Eze, in Abugi town, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, while another group of gunmen abducted a commercial bus and its passengers in Yagba West Local Government Area.
Residents said the Abugi incident occurred on Tuesday evening when armed men invaded the community, shooting sporadically and causing panic. Witnesses reported that the attackers abducted Eze from his spare parts shop and later killed him. His body was discovered on the outskirts of the town.
Eze, popularly known as “Alloy,” was the first to establish a petrol station and pure water factory in Abugi, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. Community leaders described his killing as devastating.“
In fact, late Alloy was a peace-loving man whose investments changed this community. To see him killed this way is really devastating,” said Ndakwo Enagi, a resident. Youth leader Baba Yusuf added that the attack had heightened fears in the area, stressing that “if someone like Alloy could be killed, then nobody is safe.”
In a separate incident, bandits on Thursday afternoon kidnapped passengers aboard a commercial bus along the Ejiba–Isanlu–Odo-Ere Road in Yagba West LGA. A motorcyclist traveling to Isanlu was also shot dead.
Police spokesman SP William Ovye Aya confirmed the Abugi attack, stating that the businessman was abducted around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, and later found dead in the bush. His body was taken to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Aya added that the command was still awaiting a report on the Yagba abduction but assured that investigations were ongoing.
