Bandits Kill Varsity Lecturer, Abduct Two Children, Others in Katsina

In a tragic incident, bandits killed Dr. Gyang, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), and abducted his two children along with two other women in Katsina. The attack occurred at around 1:00 am in the Low-cost Quarters area, behind Comprehensive Hospital in Dutsinma.

Sources reported hearing gunshots around 1:00 am as the bandits invaded Dr. Gyang’s residence. “We started hearing gunshots a little after 1:00 am. The bandits seemed to be many. We later learnt that Dr. Tiri was killed and his two children abducted. His remains have been taken to a mortuary in Katsina,” a source stated.

The FUDMA Public Relations Officer has yet to respond to calls, but several university staff confirmed the incident. Many also shared the tragic news on social media, with students expressing their sorrow and mourning the loss of Dr. Gyang.

– **Ahmed Jafar Waziri**: “What a tragic news. Bandits killed Dr. Tiri and kidnapped his family. He was the last person to call me yesterday about issues in his faculty at 11:30 pm. We were supposed to meet today at 8 AM in my office. The university and Dutsinma communities are deeply affected by this loss.”

-Comrade Yahaya Salisu Aba, President of the National Association of Agricultural Students, FUDMA Chapter, shared: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our beloved father, mentor, and role model, Dr. Tiri Gyana, of the Department of Agricultural Economics. We know that no words can truly express the grief and sorrow you are feeling right now. But the entire FOA and NAAS FUDMA Chapter wants you to know that we are here for you and care about you for this great loss. We have lost someone special, and we are truly sorry for the loss. Dr. Tiri was a special person, jovial and gentle to the Faculty, and we pray his light will always shine on. To the family, you are not alone, and we all care about you deeply.”

The university community and the Dutsinma area are in shock and mourning following this tragic event.
