Bayelsa Assembly approves Diri’s request for 24 Special Advisers

Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the request by Governor Douye Diri for the appointment of 24 Special Advisers for the services of the Bayelsa State Government.

The Governor’s request was contained in a message to the House read at Tuesday’s plenary by the Speaker, Hon.Abraham Ingobere, member representing Brass Constituency 3.

The Governor, Senator Douye Diri in his message to the Assembly, said the request was in line with section 196, sub-section one to three of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as altered.

In the letter, Governor Diri stated, “I write to seek the approval of the House of Assembly for the appointment of 24 Special Advisers to the Governor.

“The purpose of the appointment is for effective governance and fulfilment of the vision of the prosperity of the state. “It is in accordance with the provision of Section 196 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.”

Member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2, Edwin Bubou-Obolo, moved the motion for the assembly’s approval of the governor’s request, which was seconded by his Southern Ijaw Constituency 3 counterpart, Marlon Moses. They emphasized the necessity of the approval to provide legislative support to the government.
