The Bayelsa State Government has restated its commitment to completing all ongoing infrastructure projects initiated by the Prosperity Administration before the end of its tenure.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mrs. Kuko Obiyai, during the state’s transparency briefing for May, June, and July 2025 in Yenagoa.
Obiyai emphasized the administration’s dedication to accountability and transparency, which she described as core principles of Governor Douye Diri’s leadership.
She highlighted key projects including the nine-storey secretariat complex, an international-standard FIFA stadium, the Nembe-Brass road, the Yenagoa-Oporoma road, and the Ekeremor-Agge road, assuring that the government has made adequate budgetary provisions for their timely completion.
The commissioner urged the media to promote the administration’s programmes and policies through balanced reporting, especially as the electioneering season draws near. She warned against spreading unverified claims and encouraged journalists to embrace developmental reporting that reflects Bayelsa’s progress.
“We must work together to protect the state’s reputation and celebrate its achievements,” she said, stressing the importance of government–media collaboration to project a positive image for the state.
Obiyai also advised citizens to shun rumor-mongering and instead focus on the government’s accomplishments, noting that everyone shares the responsibility of building a prosperous Bayelsa.
Giving a financial update, the Technical Adviser on Treasury, Revenue, and Accounts, Mr. Timipre Seipulou, reported that the state’s coffers held a balance of over ₦165.8 billion as of July 2025, after recurrent and capital expenditures were deducted.
According to him, capital projects consumed ₦94.8 billion in May, ₦35 billion in June, and ₦79 billion in July, while recurrent expenditures stood at ₦7.3 billion, ₦6.4 billion, and ₦6.3 billion respectively.
Seipulou further noted that the upcoming Tax Reform Law is expected to boost the state’s internally generated revenue once implemented.
The briefing underscored the administration’s focus on fiscal discipline and infrastructure development as it works toward completing its agenda for Bayelsa State.
