By Isaac Kertyo, Makurdi

Benue State Security Council, has approved the establishment of Bureau of Homeland Security to coordinate and liaise with the office of the governor and security agencies for prompt response to security challenges.

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, made this disclosure shortly after the joint security meeting held at the Government House, Makurdi.

Governor Alia who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr Sam Ode, said the council had agreed that the Bureau be headed by a Director General, which will be appointed by the Governor.

On the recent attacks in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, the security council, directed that the curfew earlier imposed in the Sankera area should continue. It further placed a ban on protest in the entire axis until further notice.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, says the State Security Council, resolved that a Panel of Enquiry be set up by government to look into the destruction of government and private properties in Ukum, as a result of the recent protest in the area.

“They equally frowned at the increasing number of illicit checkpoints in the state, urging security agencies to work together in synergy, so as to effectively combat crime in the state”, he further stated.
