The Federal Government has been called upon to fulfil its promise of N10b donation which it made to enable Internally Displaced persons, IDPs, rebuild their homes, which were destroyed by suspected herdsmen.
Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in Benue State, Dr Emmanuel Shior who made this call in Makurdi said over 500,000 IDPs are still in camps spread across the state due to persistent attacks by suspected herdsmen. He lamented the continued attacks being unleashed on the defenseless farmers most of whom are living in riverine areas, stressing that there are eight camps across the local governments of the state.
According to Shior, areas that are most hit include, Torkula, Kaseyo and Iordye communities in Guma local government area.
Others are, Jato Aka in Kwande local government area and Agatu in Benue South Senatorial District, pointing out that continued attacks on farmers by suspected herders hinder the IDPs from returning to their ancestral homes.
It could be recalled that the Federal Government made a promise to release funds for the Internally Displaced persons to rebuild their homes.
