Benue State Security Council at its first meeting of the year approved the lifting of ban on the use of motorcycles in Katsina-Ala and Ukum local government areas of the state.
Briefing Newsmen at the Government House, Makurdi shortly after the meeting, the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu who presided over the meeting said council approved the suspension of the ban on use of motorcycles until further notice.
According to Abounu, the meeting approved a dusk to down curfew in the affected areas from 8pm-6am respectively, disclosing that the strategy is to stamp out insecurity in the aforesaid areas.
The Deputy Governor posited that following the ban on the use of motorcycles, some of the Militia gang have migrated from the two local governments to neighbouring local governments, stating however that no case of heinous acts have been reported to the council.
Abounu who confirmed the burning of impounded motorcycles by security operatives whose mandate is to enforce the ban, assured that some of the vehicles are under the custody of government.
The Deputy Governor posited that the State Security Council charged security agents to intensify surveillance in the areas to safeguard lives and properties of the people.
