Benue SEMA Refutes Alleged Diversion of Relief Materials by Camp Officials

By Isaac Kertyo, Makurdi

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has refuted allegations circulating on social media claiming that relief materials meant for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the International Market Camp in Makurdi were being diverted to private homes by camp officials under the agency’s watch.

In a statement issued by the agency’s Information Officer, Terma Ager, SEMA described the allegations made by one Tartenger Victor as false, misleading, and malicious. The agency said the claims were a calculated attempt to tarnish its image and discredit the tireless efforts of its staff, who have continued to serve displaced persons with transparency and dedication.

The statement clarified that the images attached to Tartenger’s post were misleading and had previously been used by another individual, Donatus Ashwe, in an entirely different context unrelated to the current claims.

SEMA further stated that investigations by security operatives and the camp management confirmed that no staff member of the agency was involved in any diversion of materials.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability, transparency, and humanitarian service, the agency condemned what it called an attempt at blackmail and character assassination, emphasizing that it would not be deterred by such distractions.

SEMA challenged Tartenger Victor to provide credible evidence and name those allegedly involved, rather than relying on vague insinuations on social media. The agency also revealed it is considering legal action to compel the accuser to substantiate his claims before a competent court.

The agency urged the public to disregard the allegations and continue supporting its mission to bring relief and hope to victims of recent attacks across the state.
