Biden Taps Osagie Imasogie and Chinenye Ogwumike as Advisers

In a significant move, United States President Joe Biden has selected two accomplished individuals of Nigerian heritage as special advisers. Osagie Imasogie and Chinenye Ogwumike are among the 12 distinguished members appointed to the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States.

This announcement was made public through an official statement from the State House on Wednesday. The council’s lineup features an array of notable figures, including Silvester Scott Beaman, who will serve as its chair, as well as Mimi E. Alemayehou, Rosalind Brewer, Viola Davis, Helene D. Gayle, Patrick Hubert Gaspard, C.D. Glin, Osagie Imasogie, Almaz Negash, Chinenye Joy Ogwumike, Ham K. Serunjogi, and Kevin Young. These council members will hold their positions during the 2023-2025 term.

The establishment of the council aims to foster dialogue between U.S. officials and the African Diaspora, with members hailing from diverse backgrounds such as government, sports, creative industries, business, academia, social work, and faith-based activities. Their collective expertise will play a crucial role in strengthening cultural, social, political, and economic ties between the United States and Africa, and promoting trade, investment, and educational exchanges.
