By Isreal Adamu, Jos

Bingham University, Karu in Nasarawa State, has inducted 80 Doctors into the medical profession bringing to 629, the total number of medical doctors it has produced since inception.

Speaking during the induction ceremony on Thursday in Jos the Plateau State Capital , the Vice Chancellor of the Institution ,Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba commended the graduates for their perseverance and skill in completing the rigorous six-year clinical program.

He urged the new medical doctors to commit themselves to the nation’s development and the welfare of humanity in their professional pursuits. In his words “Bingham University is one of the league of Universities in Nigeria that is uniquely positioned in the training of Medical Doctors .

” I understand the ratio of medical doctors to our country population is 1:5000 whereas the World Health Organization recommended a ratio of 1 Doctor to 600 of the population. ” In addition to this worrisome ratio, an estimated 16, 000 doctors have left Nigeria over the last 5 years alone, through the Japa syndrome.

“We therefore give God the glory that Bingham University is helping to fill the manpower gap in the medical and dental profession. “I hope our inductees will also not leave the shores of Nigeria but stay back to salvage the deteriorating healthcare system.

The Vice Chancellor also added that ” Today marks a great milestone in the history of Bingham University, as we induct the 2016/2017 set of the University trained Medical Doctors and Dentists.

I heartily congratulate our 80 MBBS graduates that have worked tirelessly in order to be counted amongst those worthy to partake in this event of today. Out of the 80, there are 46 Females and 34 Males ,I am more excited that we are churning out more females Doctors than male Doctors.

This means we are strategically raising an educated generations as these ones will ensure their children also do better. He added that ” I congratulate all the inductees for your hard work, resilience, determination and diligence, which has paid off. With your induction and oath-taking ceremony, you have accepted to work with the highest sense of professionalism and ethical standards.”

” You must therefore go out there and provide high quality medical and dental services to Nigeria and the world at large. You must adhere strictly to the codes and ethics of your profession.

During the course of your study in Bingham University, we inculcated in you core values of the Christian Faith. Once you stick to those core values and follow rules of your profession, there is no limit to how far you can go in life.

He added that The Mission of Bingham University is to produce graduates that have both knowledge and skills for self-reliance in the fear of Christ. We know that you have acquired the spiritual and academic knowledge

The VIce Chancellor charged the inductees to keep to the tenets of integrity, professionalism and exercise caution at all times while discharging their duties.

Also speaking at the occasion President of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) , Rev Dr Job Ayuba Bagat expressed his confidence in the ability of each of the inductees to be great, owing to the quality of the Lecturers they learned from.He challenged the inductees to seek more knowledge at all times, saying, challenges will come but with them comes growth and opportunities.
