BIRS, VIO Embark On Vehicle Registration, Renewal Enforcement To Enhance Revenue Generation

The joint operations of Benue Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, and Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, have embarked on enforcement of vehicle registration and renewal of vehicle papers in Gboko, headquarters of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

A statement issued by the Media Assistant to the Executive Chairman,BIRS, Jacinta Bernard, and made available to Day Break, explained that the exercise is to ensure that vehicles plying the roads in Benue State are registered and renewed.

According to Bernard, the exercise recorded huge successes, pointing out that over 50 vehicles were registered and renewed in accordance with the law, without security challenge.

The Executive Chairman of BIRS, Mr Emmanuel Agema who was represented at the event by the Zonal Tax Officer, Mr Iorhemba Kpamsaa, expressed delight over the level of compliance shown by the Gboko people. He lauded the Vehicle Inspection Officers over their conduct and hard work in inspecting vehicles, and the Police in maintaining law and order.

Mr Kpamsaa, noted that the Emmanuel Agema led BIRS is committed to ensuring that all vehicles plying our roads are registered and renewed, adding that though the exercise is critical for security check, it is equally important for revenue generation in the state.

In his remarks, the Zonal Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Engr Moses Wanger, who represented the State Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Engr Moses Ligom, said the contravention exercise is aimed at educating motorists inorder to mitigate accidents cases and ensure that road users fulfill their obligations of registering and renewing their vehicle particulars.
