Boko Haram Strikes Military Base in Yobe, Claims Soldier’s Life

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack on a military base in Gujba town, Yobe State, around midnight on Saturday, resulting in the death of a soldier.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the incident, revealing that the attackers also set ablaze a military patrol vehicle.

Local sources reported that the insurgents arrived in Gujba shortly after midnight, unleashing gunfire and targeting the military base. However, troops swiftly responded, repelling the assailants and pursuing them into the surrounding bush.

Witnesses recounted scenes of panic as residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the onslaught.

According to Modu Bahna, a resident of Gujba, “They (suspected terrorists) stormed the town some minutes after midnight, shooting sporadically, and the majority of us took to our heels into the surrounding bushes for dear lives.”

Another resident, Dala Bukar, stated, “The attackers did not kill any civilians or loot food or other essential commodities stores. They only attacked the two patrol vehicles in the military base where a soldier was killed.”

Abdulkarim affirmed the attack, mentioning the soldier’s death and the engagement between troops and civilian joint task force (CJTF) members against the assailants.

The Maiduguri-Damaturu-Gujba-Biu Road has witnessed a resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in recent months, posing significant security challenges in the region.
