A man from Borno, Adamu Ibrahim, has been apprehended as the primary suspect in the murder of his 24-year-old wife, Fatima Alhaji-Bukar. The tragic incident occurred at their residence in Dikechiri, Bayan Gidan Dambe area of Maiduguri, the state capital.
Ibrahim, along with his friend, Bukar Diya, was arrested after they took the lifeless body of Fatima to the Gwange Division of the police on October 18 to report her murder.
Initially, the husband had informed the police that he discovered his wife lying in a pool of blood when she returned from work at approximately 5:00 p.m.
However, subsequent investigations unveiled that the husband was the primary suspect in his wife’s murder.
According to ASP Sani Kamilu, the spokesperson of the command, in a statement released to journalists on Friday, “On October 18, 2023, one Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim of Dikechiri Bayan Gidan Dambe area Maiduguri went to Gwange Division, accompanied by one Bukar Wadiya, conveying the body of a woman whom he claimed to be his wife and sought for emergency help from the police.”
Kamilu further explained that the couple had a history of domestic disputes, particularly related to an alleged extramarital affair by the husband, prior to the tragic incident.
During a search of the premises where the incident occurred, various items were recovered as potential exhibits, including a short pestle, a bag, rope, a rug carpet stained with blood, a knife, a Honda vehicle, and a pillow stained with mucus.
Kamilu added that there were no signs of forced entry into the house, and only the husband possessed the key.
Both the husband and Bukar Wadiya were arrested as the primary suspects, and a discreet investigation is currently in progress for potential prosecution.
