BREAKING: Enugu in Crisis over demolition of Artisan market

A vehicle, most likely trucks and others are currently on fire in from of new artisan market Port Harcourt road In Enugu state.
Many vehicles including cars and jeeps were burnt down since Thursday by angry Youth over demolition of old Atisan market.

Police vans numbering about 15 were deployed to area since Thursday when the sudden demolition of the market fends and shops started.

Bulldozers brought for demolition were also attacked and damaged, and the drivers chased away by artisan market and abandon them.

Journalists attempting to take shots of the vehicle on fire was man handled and chased away from the scene.
Enugu state Governor Mr Ifeany Agwuany on Wednesday reportedly directed the occupants to quit the market for a new one based on alleged Court judgement delivered in favour of one Citi Gas company located in from of the permanent site artisan market.

But occupant mostly Hausa community and others said the place was gazetted and allocated to them under governor chimaroke Nnamani administration, adding that the land was different from the favored court judgement.

According to leaders of the Hausa community who spoke to our Correspondent, the governor gave them two weeks to relocated to temporary site, which was still in contention as no structures for those with women and children to sleep.

People are currently running at all directions from the area for fear of their lives as police security fired shots to scare the attackers away from burning innocent motors owners, making the place deserted.

No known casualties have however yet been reported but army have also been deployed to area as the situation escalated and intensified.
