The ministry of environment has debunked media reports claiming that the Minister’s Personal Assistant (PA), Abdulaziz Musa Alhassan, has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Ministry sources also revealed that, Alhassan who had since been relieved of his job wrote back sometimes ago begging to be reinstated into the ministry but his request was not granted.
Accordingly, the credible source explained that Alhassan had since been redeployed to Accountant General office in kaduna state where he was, and had no trace or link with the ministry even as appointee or as aide to the Minister any longer.
In a chat, the ministry sources reiterated that Abdulaziz Musa Alhassan had since been relieved of his job as PA to the Environment Minister, as reported in the online news media, and therefore ceased to be an aide to Minister from that time.
“Our attention has been drawn to an online publication dated April 10th 2025, titled: “Breaking: Environment Minister’s Aide, Resigns From APC, Joins el-Rufai’s SDP”, the source stated.
The online report read in parts: “In a major political realignment, Abdulaziz Musa Alhassan, the Personal Assistant to the Minister of Environment, has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP)”, the ministry added.
“The resignation, confirmed in a letter addressed to his ward chairman, marks a notable departure from the APC, with sources citing “irreconcilable political differences” as the reason for his exit.
“Alhassan’s move is seen as a boost to el-Rufai’s growing influence within the SDP, fueling speculation of a major opposition realignment ahead of future elections.
“Political analysts suggest this defection could signal wider discontent within the APC, particularly among aides and mid-level officials. Neither the Ministry of Environment nor the SDP has issued an official statement, but insiders confirm Alhassan’s integration into the SDP’s strategic framework”, the source quoted.
The ministry sources therefore wish to inform the general public that Alhassan’s ceased to be an appointee or “boy” of the Minister since relieved of his work, and thus his resignation from APC and defection to SPD has no bearing or link with the Minister of environment or the ministry.
