[Breaking News] UNILAG Gate Blocked as SSANU, NASU, NAATS Protest

In a show of discontent, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAATS) at the University of Lagos staged a peaceful demonstration at the institution’s gate on Wednesday.

Their demonstration caused a halt in vehicular movement, disrupting the flow of traffic in the vicinity as they voiced their grievances against the Federal Government over withheld salaries.

With songs and a display of placards, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU has been drawing attention to the exclusion of their salaries from the recent payment made to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) since February.

The salaries were withheld following the implementation of the ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy by the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, targeted at ASUU, SSANU, and NAATS due to their participation in strikes lasting eight months, four months, and five-and-a-half months respectively in 2022.

Additionally, NAATS commenced its three-day warning strike today, amplifying the collective protest against the withheld salaries.
