BREAKING: Rivers Court Rules 27 Pro-Wike Lawmakers Still PDP Members

A Rivers State High Court has declared that Martin Amaewhuke and 26 other lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly remain members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

On Monday, the court dismissed a suit filed by Wosa Amadi and three others, which sought to declare the seats of the 27 lawmakers vacant following their alleged defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2003.

Presiding Judge, Justice Okogbule Gbasam, ruled that the claimants failed to prove the lawmakers had defected to the APC. Justice Gbasam emphasized that defection cannot be established through newspaper publications, radio announcements, or online reports.

The court stated that defection can only be proven through the party membership register, a membership card, and the fulfillment of all membership requirements of the new party.

Further details will be provided as they become available.
