British High Commission hails Kebbi State people for promoting peace, stability

The British High Commission on Thursday commended the people of Kebbi State for being the most peaceful, stable and lower rate of crimes in Nigeria.

The commission Deputy Higher Commissioner, Mrs Gill Atkinson, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to Gov. Atiku Bagudu, in Birnin Kebbi.

“I am highly impressed by conduct of people of Kebbi for their peaceful and orderly manner.

“This is the first time any senior officer of the commission is visiting the state in recent time.

“To me and my team, this is a learning visit; the state stands out because of its peace, stability and lower rate of crimes.

“This is a credit to your people, security services and government of the state for leading the state with lowest crimes in the country,” she said.

Atkinson also commended the people of the state for moving from the traditional form of making a living into modernity as well as imagination that had been put into technical projects.

“We have seen some amazing entrepreneurship skills and enthusiasm with people learning to develop their families,” she said.

Atkinson also called on the state government to address the challenges of poverty, poor statistics for education and health with strong strategic plans.

The commissioner, however, thanked the governor for the hospitality showed her and her team during their visit to the state.

In his remarks, Bagudu commended UK for supporting Nigeria’s independence, the judiciary and freedom of the media.

He explained that the present administration had always allowed freedom of judiciary and other arms of government in the country to thrive.

The governor used the occasion to seek for the assistance of the British Government on investment drive and other things that would support Nigeria industrial growth and development.

He said the current administration was doing everything possible to create an enabling environment that would encourage investors in different sectors of the economy.

Bagudu gave an assurance that the present administration was keen in promoting modern way of doing business that would empower large numbers of cluster groups to support the development of the economy. (NAN).
