  • Michelle Obama Shares Key Advice on Choosing a Life Partner

Michelle Obama Shares Key Advice on Choosing a Life Partner

Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has offered thoughtful advice on what to consider when choosing a spouse, emphasizing the importance of finding a well-rounded partner.

Speaking metaphorically, Mrs. Obama likened choosing a life partner to picking a player for a sports team. Using basketball as an example, she explained that just like a coach would choose a player who can do more than just shoot, individuals should seek partners who bring multiple strengths to the table.

“You want someone who can do it all,” she said. “Each person in a relationship has to be able and willing to handle different responsibilities.”

Michelle stressed the importance of mutual capability and flexibility in marriage, warning against depending solely on one partner for specific roles. “You don’t want to marry a man who says, ‘I don’t cook,’ because what happens if you can’t cook?” she asked.

She highlighted how unpredictable life can be and emphasized the need for partners to be able to step in and support each other in difficult moments.

“If you’re the woman and you can’t balance the checkbook because you left that to him, that can create problems. Life is too complicated for couples not to be true equals,” she added.

In a caption accompanying her remarks, she concluded with a powerful reminder:
“Find a partner who isn’t just willing to divide and conquer, but who’s capable of stepping up when life throws the unexpected at you.”

“We’ve Resolved Our Differences” – Segun Arinze on Feud with Emeka Ike

Veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has confirmed that his long-standing feud with colleague Emeka Ike is now a thing of the past.

In an interview with Qed.ng’s Olumide Iyanda, Arinze revealed that their dispute had naturally come to an end.

“Emeka Ike is a fine actor. We still talk and laugh about those things. The conflict ended naturally,” he said.

The feud dates back to 2009, when both actors clashed over leadership in the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). In 2011, Ike obtained a court injunction against the guild’s elections, leading to Arinze stepping down as AGN president.

  • Val Kilmer, ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Batman’ Star, Dies at 65

Val Kilmer, ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Batman’ Star, Dies at 65

Acclaimed American actor Val Kilmer, best known for his roles in Top Gun, Batman Forever, and The Doors, has passed away at the age of 65.

His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed to The New York Times on Tuesday that he died of pneumonia. Kilmer had previously battled throat cancer following a 2014 diagnosis but later recovered.

A Legacy in Film and Theater

Born Val Edward Kilmer on December 31, 1959, he began acting as a child, appearing in commercials before becoming the youngest person ever accepted into Juilliard’s prestigious drama program. His Broadway debut came in 1983 alongside Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon.

Though he aspired to serious filmmaking, Kilmer became widely known for his blockbuster roles, including Top Gun (1986), where he played Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, and Batman Forever (1995), in which he donned the cape as the Dark Knight. He also portrayed Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991), earning critical acclaim.

However, his career saw ups and downs in the 2000s, with a string of big-budget flops. In the 2010s, he staged a comeback with a one-man show about Mark Twain, a project he hoped to adapt into a film before his cancer diagnosis.

    Health Struggles and Final Roles

The 2021 documentary Val, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, chronicled Kilmer’s rise to fame and later health struggles. The film depicted his battle with throat cancer and the challenges he faced after a tracheotomy left him with a raspy voice.

In 2022, Kilmer made a poignant return to the big screen, reprising his role as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick. His real-life health struggles were incorporated into the character, creating an emotional farewell that critics praised.

“Instead of treating Kilmer — and, indeed, the entire notion of Top Gun — as a throwaway nostalgia object, he’s given a celluloid swan song that’ll stand the test of time,” GQ wrote.

Kilmer himself reflected on his artistic journey on his website, writing:

“For more than half a century, I have been honing my art, no matter the medium. Be it literature, movies, poetry, painting, music, or tracking exotic and beautiful wildlife.”

Val Kilmer is survived by his two children, Mercedes and Jack Kilmer.
