  • 5 Things to consider before buying a mobile phone

5 Things to consider before buying a mobile phone

If you are thinking of buying a mobile phone, you must have saved up some amount of money for it. It is important to know that you are going to use your hard earned money to buy that particular phone you have been dreaming of. This calls for one to put in mind some important things so that you buy the best cell phone.

Many a time people are carried away by advertisements that could be from the internet or from a friend. You must understand that you are buying something that has got many features in it and just because it comes with a Blackberry, Android or Apple’s trademark does not mean it is what you have been dreaming of.

Instead of being carried away by these advertisements, try to consider some important things before you buy a cell phone.

This article compiles some of the 5 items to help you to decide the cell phone that is suitable for you.

    Battery life
This is one of the most important items in a cell phone that you must not ignore. Having a durable battery is good for the functioning of your cell phone. It is advisable to go for those cell phones that are sold with an extended battery life as this will minimize chances of having to plug your phone in the charge every now and then. Remember the lesser battery life your cell phone has then more you often will be required to charge it and this will affect the performance of your cell phone in the long run. If your battery capacity is lower, it will drain easily even when doing light tasks that don’t consume a lot of power. If you are going to buy a cell phone online, it is good to check on the cell phones talk time before you decide to buy it. If you find a cell phone that says it offers less than 12 hours talk time per day on 2G network think twice.

    Keyboard
Today, you can find a cell phone with QWERTY or touch. Note that all the two are great when it comes to typing on your cell phone, however, when you are going to use your phone to send and receive emails you should ensure to go for a cell phone that has a physical keyboard. The QWERTY is best when it comes to tasks that involve a lot of typing. This keyboard resembles that of a computer. If you think of buying a cell phone to use just for the basic functions, you can buy one with a touch keyboard. The only problem with the touch keyboard is that you cannot type very fast while a QWERTY keyboard allows faster typing.

    Cell phone screen
The size of the screen of your cell phone matters a lot when it comes to battery consumption. Most people prefer big screen but in the long run, they realize that it drains your battery faster. Therefore, you must understand that the bigger the screen your cell phone has the more power it will consume. In fact, experts recommend cell phone users to go for LED as they are believed to consume less power.

    Longevity
No one wants to buy a cell phone today that will die in the next few months. Everyone wants a durable item that will serve them for a longer period of time. But how do you know that your dream cell phone is durable?

You can get to know if your phone is durable by searching on YouTube for “drop tests” of your cell phone make. Here you will be able to find videos that will help you to know which cell phone model is durable than the other.

    Your budget
This is also another important factor in buying your new cell phone. It doesn’t matter whether you think of buying a high grade, mid-grade or lower grade cell phone, what matters is your spending power. Sometimes you might find that you have set your budget for a mid-grade cell phone but you want to buy an older high-grade model. Don’t! it is better to buy that mid-grade model than to buy the older high-grade model.

  • Reasons why you should learn Java

Reasons why you should learn Java

Java is one of the most popular programming languages in the world. Many big Companies like Google, Amazon are using java for back end services and infrastructure. But despite its huge popularity, Java’s reputation among programmers is something of a mixed type. Some seem to like but others hate it.

I have used Java for more than decade now. I find it an awesome language. Obviously, it is not perfect but has more pros than cons.

Following are some of the things I think Java got right:

    Object Oriented Language
Java has huge learning curve but once you are comfortable with it, you will be able to solve problems with minimum time and maximum quality.

Java is purely Object-oriented language. You can write code around objects and their interaction. For example, let’s you are creating library management system, you’ll most likely write code objects representing books, members, staff but also more abstract concepts such as loan and book issue.

This seems to be a fair way, instead of big step by step algorithm, you can think of Java as a set of interacting object. If you design your system right, it will be very easy to maintain and extend the code.

Obviously, Java did not invent the idea of Object Oriented Programming. In fact, OOP concepts are quite old back to late ’60s, but the Java language creators did a great job executing the Object Oriented Programming idea in the language in such a style that it is productive and productive for the programmer.

    The Java Virtual Machine
One of Java’s most beneficial features is the Java Virtual Machine (or JVM). The JVM essentially works as the translator between Java code and the underlying operating system on which you are running java code.

Java depicts “write once, run anywhere”. Without the JVM, you’d have to compile your code for each operating system separately. the JVM ensures that Java code runs in same way on Linux, Mac or Windows.

    Automatic Memory Management
If you ever practiced a language such as C or C++ then you might be closely familiar with the meticulous effort involved in manually managing memory allocation in your programs. and designers of the Java Programming Language chose to automate memory management.

In Java, you can create objects as per requirements and need not to worry about garbage collection as Java will automatically restore the memory once objects are not being utilized in the program.

    Great Programming API
Another important reason to love Java is that it’s a very rich API. It gives everything you need to write a successful program whether it is input-output handling, XML/CSV parsing, socket communication, mail API, etc.

Moreover, there are lot and lot of Java open-source libraries like Spring framework, Spring boot, etc. that provides quite a good amount of functionalities.

If you’re coming from a programming background in C/C++ or VB to Java, it would be a delightful surprise for you to see so much functionality that is properly planned and executed.

    Huge Community
According to Wikipedia, there are more than 9 million Java developers around the world. This is a large benefit because for just about every problem you face into as a developer there is a high chance that someone, somewhere had already solved a variety of this problem or same kind of problem. If you search for any problem on web, you are very likely to get solution for the problem.

    Fantastic Frameworks & Libraries
Java has good amount of frameworks and libraries to choose from,

Java has an enormous array of frameworks and libraries to choose from. My favorite framework is the Spring Framework which had become the most famous java framework for any sort of work involving web (HTTP) technologies as it helps us to reduce the amount of work required to write the code.

For example: Spring JDBC helps you to remove a lot of boilerplate code which you need to use with conventional Java JDBC.

Here is a good Spring tutorial to learn spring quickly and in effective way.

    Good Opportunities
Java is among the most demanded programming skill in the world. Many big companies such as google/Amazon because of its performance and availability of open source libraries. If you are core java developer/Programmer, you can get a lot of opportunities in many good companies.

    Final thoughts
There are many good languages to choose from out there. Java is just one of them. This article is in no way trying to declare that “Java is the best” or that “Java is better than X language” but it demonstrates why you should learn java in 2019.

  • Reasons why your relationship has no romance

Reasons why your relationship has no romance

Romance is vital for a happy relationship. Lack of romance in a relationship can be a major source of resentment and dissatisfaction.

However, there are certain reasons why some relationships have no romance and these reasons include the following:

    1. You and your partner are stuck.

If you feel stuck and in a passionless place in your relationship, you’re probably not making it up. You’ve probably got real and legitimate reasons why you believe that there is no romance.

The thing to do when you feel stuck is to get curious. Stop looking for who is to blame and try to get clearer about why you feel stuck and what habits (that you and your partner have) are contributing to this.

For example, it could be that you two have become entrenched in a routine that is very busy and leaves little time for connection and to be alone. This is particularly so for couples who have young children or even teenagers living at home.

The more you can figure out how you and your partner are stuck and the more you can get creative and make more time to really BE with one another, the easier it will be to bring back the romance.

    2. Resentment and/or anger are in the way.

There’s no bigger passion killer than resentment and anger. Both build up and can be a dangerous pair.

If you recognize either of these emotions dominant within you or in your relationship, trace it back to the source. What events are you still holding onto? What conflicts remain unresolved?

Take steps to make peace with the past, to resolve divisive issues that linger between you and your partner and to live more fully in the present moment.

It’s not going to encourage your partner to be more romantic when you are still angry about how badly he (or she) handled a past Valentine’s Day, anniversary, or any other special occasion, for instance.

You might need to do this letting go of the past by yourself or in conversation with your partner. If you do need to communicate about your lingering anger, do so in a way that allows you both to be heard and to move forward — together.

    3. Either or both of you are afraid to trust.

Another block to romance is mistrust. When you don’t fully trust your partner (or yourself), you hold back. You aren’t as open and intimate with your mate and this can be felt.

You might have good reasons for holding back or mistrusting. It is important that you address your doubts and hesitations and get clear about whether they stem more from past experiences or from things going on now.

There simply isn’t room for romance when the foundation of trust is shaky or nonexistent. Make a conscious effort to rebuild trust if it feels broken or missing, and notice when your partner follows through and keeps his or her word.

This will help you know that it’s wise to trust and open yourself up again.

    4. You have different ideas of what romance and love are.

It happens all of the time. Both people in the relationship have completely different preferences and ideas of love and romance.

One might believe that he or she is expressing feelings of love while the other person doesn’t see it.

While it’s helpful to know how you want to be loved, try to be flexible too. Be willing to communicate to your partner what feels romantic to you, but don’t go so far as to dictate or micro-manage a romantic experience that your mate might be trying to provide for you.

It can be a bit of a balancing act. Give information about what your preferences are while also inviting yourself to appreciate the efforts that your partner is putting into loving you and making you feel special in his or her unique way.

Receive the love that’s being offered to you — even if it comes in a slightly different “package” then you had in mind. This will open the door to even more romance to come.

  • Environment experts task practitioners on professionalism

Environment experts task practitioners on professionalism

Some environment experts on Sunday urged environment service providers to exhibit professionalism in carrying out their duties.

The experts, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews in Lagos, said that the imminent dangers of global warming called for intensified action and dedication of the professionals.

Mr Taiwo Awonuga, the President, Lagos Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN) said there was need for practitioners to brace up to provide the public the much needed direction in handling environment crisis.

He identified air pollution related health effects as reason for the increase in the rate of transmission of infectious diseases including water, food, vector and rodents.

“Malnutrition due to effects on agriculture and extreme weather related health effects, storm surge related drowning and injuries are on the rise.

“Health problems associated with displaced refugee population and many more health related impacts could be associated to Climate Change.

“The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated that by the year 2030, Climate Change could cause an additional 250,000 deaths per year from issues requiring environmental health solutions,” he said.

Awonuga charged the environmental officers to eschew parochial attitudes, in spite of low funding and save the masses by being dedicated, adding that anything contrary would spell doom for everyone.

According to him, officers posted to local council areas should pay attention to the way the people dispose of their septic tanks to ensure compliance.

Dr Muhtari Aminu-Kano, the Director-General, Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF) said that educating the policy makers and the general public about the effects of Climate Change and global warming was an essential duty of the professionals.

“Environmental diagnosis and tracking of events that are related to Climate Change, development, enactment and enforcement of policies that are related to Climate Change should be prioritised.

“Mobilisation of communities through partnerships toward solving problems and addressing events that may occur as a result of Climate Change should also be encouraged,” he said.

Ms Omobola Eko, the Converner, Urban Tree Revival Team (UTRT), an NGO involved in tree planting said that as practitioners, the environment crisis was expedient.

“We ought to be prepared and salvage the daunting circumstances of Climate Change and attendant global warming.

“Strengthening the environmental health practice is the only way to go toward ensuring a sustainable environment for our children and generations unborn,” she said.

Eko urged environment scientists to emulate their colleagues in other climes, who were constantly chunning out scientific solutions to curb their climate challenges. (NAN)

Record-breaker Rahm successfully defends Spanish Open crown in Madrid

    By Our Reporter

World number five Jon Rahm of Spain carded a five-under 66 in the final round of the Spanish Open to finish with 22-under overall, winning by five shots to defend his crown in Madrid on Sunday.

The victory made Rahm the quickest Spaniard to win five European Tour titles in his 39th start — 10 fewer than former Ryder Cup captain Seve Ballestros, who has a record 50 tour titles to his name.

The 24-year-old sank an eagle on the par-five fourth and four more birdies, offset by a bogey on the 17th, to win his fifth title on the European Tour and his second of the year after clinching the Irish Open in July.

The final putt from less than a foot out drew loud cheers from the home crowd as Rahm also moved to the top of the Race to Dubai rankings.

“In front of a home crowd, it’s always really hard for me to keep everything under control and to play the weekend that I did for them, it’s always really fun,” an ecstatic Rahm said.

“I can’t wait to come back next year and hopefully do it three times. It was unlike anything else. Spanish crowds love golf, they love us coming back. It’s hard to believe how many people come out here.”

Rahm’s third round score of 63, which equaled the course record at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, had given him a five-shot lead and the 24-year-old maintained that overnight lead to finish above compatriot Rafa Bello Cabrera.

Spain’s Samuel del Val finished third, seven strokes behind, while three others — compatriot Adri Arnaus and Denmark’s Jeff Winther and Joachim Hansen — were tied for fourth a further two shots behind.

Sergio Garcia, who won the KLM Open in Amsterdam last month, could only finish tied-seventh — 10 shots off the lead. (Reuters/NAN)

  • 4 Apps to keep you from contacting your ex after a breakup

4 Apps to keep you from contacting your ex after a breakup

Resisting the urge to call or text your ex after a breakup could be difficult. Sometimes, we contact our exes and immediately regret it. Well, technology is here to help us in that regard. Isn’t it wonderful?

Wondering what kind pf technology could do such? Well, here are 4 applications that can keep you from contacting your ex after a breakup.

    1. KillSwitch

Stop creeping on him over Facebook!

Launched on Valentine’s Day (oh, the irony), this deadly-named app is a program that removes all traces of your ex from Facebook with a single click. That means photos, posts, etc.

This is a last resort ex-blocker because once it’s done, you lose everything and anything your ex was tagged in (making it awkward if you had mutual friends).

But the nice thing is at least someone benefits from your heartbreak — KillSwitch donates part of their proceeds to the American Heart Association.

    2. Drunk Mode Keyboard

This does the trick on nights when five gin martinis take precedence over dinner. This app replaces your QWERTY keyboard with art or has different settings like translating your set language to something foreign, so you will absolutely not know what you’re even trying to say!

If anything, you’ll probably get distracted by it and then not try to text your ex!

    3. Set up a mail filter

There’s probably nothing worse than checking your inbox just to see a surprise email from your ex asking when he can come by and pick up his last box of stuff (cue, heart drop).

Almost all major services give you the option to opt-out of emails from a specific address.

In Gmail, you can block your ex by filtering emails. Open a message from your ex and click “more” in the right-hand corner to drop open options. From there, you can select to filter out your ex. That way, you still receive your ex’s messages (in the event of an emergency), but they don’t flood your inbox.

    4. Focus Lock
While this app may not be geared specifically toward ex-lovers, it will do the trick if you’re trying not to contact someone and losing to the urge!

Focus Lock allows you to choose which apps on your phone you don’t want access to and then sets an adjustable timer so that you can’t use that portion until you’re feeling more in your right mind.

“But when one’s modest contributions and efforts are found worthy of honour, it is both a surprise and a delight.

“Recognition is always a down payment to do even more. So, in this regard, all I can humbly say is so help me God!

“I eventually became the driver of all I would do, become and be most proud of in life,’’ he said.
