Akwa Ibom targets 24h electricity by 2021

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has said his administration is committed to achieving 24 hours electricity supply for every household in the State by the end of year 2021.

Udom disclosed that despite the challenges of vandalism, coupled with the alarming theft of power installations, the state was determined to provide power for its 6 million population.

Gov. Emmanuel disclosed that electricity was the right of every resident of the state and that was was the state was resolved to achieve the target.

Speaking at a media briefing as part of event marking the State’s 32nd anniversary, the governor emphasised government’s commitment to improve electricity supply as part of a deliberate plan to enhance the ease of doing business in the State.

“We are very serious about actualising the power for all by year 2021. My administration has invested heavily in power infrastructure but we are not getting an output that is commensurable to our investment. Despite this, we are developing a plan to ensure that the State is self-sufficient in electricity by 2021.”

“When we came in, Ibom power plant was not working. But, through our efforts, General Electric has rehabilitated it. We are trying to find a way around the challenge of power distribution which is exclusively handled by the federal government.”

Governor Udom Emmanuel administration has built three power sub-stations within four years. The newest of the sub-stations at Ekim, Mkpat Enin local government, was commissioned alongside a flour mill and plywood factory, by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday 21st September, during events marking the 32nd anniversary of the State.

However, Governor Emmanuel has decried alarming theft and vandalisation of power installations like armoured cables and transformers in different parts of the State.

“Recently, we procured about 20 transformers, but they were stolen before they even arrived the State. The Commissioner of Police said they recovered ten of it. The had also arrested a syndicate which specializes in stealing electrical equipment and recovered another another 19 transformers.”

“It is our people who are doing this in connivance with people outside the State. We need to discourage this.”
He said his administration’s commitment to the actualization of its completion agenda is irrevocable, calling on the people of the State to avoid attaching political biases to the successes of his industrialisation drive.

“When we are celebrated as we currently are, as the only State with a fully functional airline, it is not just a PDP achievement, it is an Akwa Ibom achievement. When the 18 industries that we have successfully attracted and established, help create jobs for our teeming youths and the attendant value chain, it is not just a PDP achievement, it is an enduring Akwa Ibom story.”

“The Flour mills that was commissioned by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo a few days ago is for all Akwa Ibom people.

“The Plywood and Timber Factory that was equally commissioned by the Vice President, will not only be defined as a PDP achievement, neither will the furniture industry that will benefit from this factory be used mainly by PDP members – it will be an Akwa Ibom success story. So, it will be wrong for anyone to play politics with these achievements.”

Governor Emmanual encouraged journalists in the State to play-down on sensational political reportage, but should focus on helping the government to market the investment potentials of the State.

  • #BBNaija Day 88: The Final Wager Task Hurdle

#BBNaija Day 88: The Final Wager Task Hurdle

As the journey to the Big Brother Naija finale draws to an end, the Pepper Dem Gang must cross one more hurdle – The Final Wager.

The Pepper Dem gang got their brief for the final Wager Task and it is to present a comedy show. This will be their final Wager Task and pressure is on them to go out with a bang. They did lose their first Wager Task, hopefully, there won’t be a repeat this time.

The Pepper Dem Gang are expected to present at least six acts. The acts must include a stand-up comedy. We wonder which of the Housemates can pull this off. The Housemates are also allowed to put up individual performances, but by the end of all the performances, each Housemate must have featured in one.

What’s a comedy show without guests to entertain and give a good laugh? Maybe that’s why there are rumours of special guests dropping by for the comedy show. Biggie did give hint saying “there will be one stage, possible guests or not…” Yesterday, the Housemates had stars from Nollywood dropping by the Pepper Dem House for a thrilling time. Not only did the Pepper Dem Gang get to interact and get motivational nuggets from the guests, but they also enjoyed the luxury of dining with them. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope there will be guests to make the show extra spicy tonight.

All good things come to an end or painted on. Turns out Biggie is bored with the graffiti the Pepper Dem Gang put up and they will be taking it down. Paint will be sent in and they will be asked to do something different on the wall. On the bright side, they did get to take pictures of themselves and their paintings. Now they have memories to last them for a while.

The best part of this Comedy Show Task is, no matter how it ends up, we are sure to have a good laugh. Let’s hope the Housemates recognize the humour in their Task and make the preparation a fun-filled one.

Living in big cities is expensive and this can make life quite uneasy for low income earners. But high income earners also face financial difficulties when they lack good financial plans.

So, a low income earner can survive in big cities if he or she has a good financial plan.

Here are survival tips for low income earners living in big cities:

    1. Have another source of income

These 7 side-hustles that can fetch you extra income in Nigeria right now

It is very difficult to survive in Lagos with one income source. Even high salary earners complain about living in Lagos let alone someone who earns less than 60k per month.

As a low-income earner, having two or three streams of income isn’t a bad idea so long you can juggle them.

    2. Avoid unnecessary spending

Impulsive spenders, these simple tips will help you avoid unnecessary spending

You really don’t need to spend your money on things that won’t fetch you more money as a low-income earner. Remember you are not making enough money already.

Spend on what you need and not what you want. Avoid impulse buying and don’t ever try to be what you are not. Spend within your means and don’t go broke trying to look rich. If you spend your money anyhow, Lagos won’t hesitate to treat you anyhow.

    3. Learn to go the distance

3 useful tips for low income earners to surviving in Lagos

Transportation is one of the things Lagosians spend their money on the most. You can reduce the money you spend on this.

This is not to encourage anyone to trek a very long distance because you want to save and survive in Lagos. No!

What  I am saying basically is that you can save money if you choose to trek some trekkable distances rather than taking a tricycle or motorcycle. Moreover walking is good exercise.

  • Bill Gates opened my eyes to healthcare issues in Nigeria – Dangote

Bill Gates opened my eyes to healthcare issues in Nigeria – Dangote

The Chairman, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote said that he had no idea the level of neglect in Nigeria’s health sector until he had a conversation with Bill Gates.

Dangote said on Wednesday in New York at the 2019 Goalkeepers meeting of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

He said that since his conversion with Bill Gates, he became more interested in doing something to improve children access to nutritional food and healthcare system in the country.

Dangote went further to say that his work through his foundation had helped to shape policy around nutrition in Nigeria.

For example, the Federal Government now has a policy on food fortification, making it compulsory for producers of certain products such as rice, sugar, wheat, spaghetti, noodles to include vitamin supplements in their products.

“When I started my foundation in 1994, I never realised we had this massive challenge in the health sector.

“Really, it was mind-boggling when we had this agreement to collaborate with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and that really opened my eyes to realise that there are a lot of challenges in health.

“At that time I didn’t have the opportunity of meeting Bill but meeting Bill changed me into a different person.

“This is somebody that has nothing to do with us in Africa or Nigeria but he is putting his money and his soul into everything.

“He is very committed to helping humanity and that really surprises me a lot and I realised that he is a simple person and I never knew Bill would be this simple. He is a very soft-spoken guy and kind hearted.

“It is very difficult to find people like Bill in this world. My only prayer is that in the next few years, I will try and give my chunk of wealth to charity to,” he said.

Meanwhile the Co-founder of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr Bill Gates said that he wouldn’t have had the kind of relationship he has in Africa without Dangote.

He commended Dangote for his work in helping children overcome malnutrition in Nigeria through food fortification.

He said that balance diet is important because a child’s ultimate survival past the age of five, depends on the nutrition he or she gets.

Gates also thanked Dangote for being a true friend and teaching him how to communicate with people instead of sending them an email full charts and expecting them to understand and see the problems and solutions he sees.

He noted that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was able to do more work in Northern Nigeria, with the help of Dangote who personally called six state governors and asked them to listen to him. (NAN)

  • 5 Habits to lose in order to find true love

5 Habits to lose in order to find true love

It may seem you always fall in love with the wrong persons but have you stopped to check whether you are the reason for your problems? Moreover, it is important you assess yourself dispassionately to see if you really are the kind of person who should even be taken as they are or not.

Well, here are habits one need to lose in order to find his or her true love:

    1. Self esteem issues

When you keep the thought in your mind that that babe is ‘way out of your league’ or that guy ‘is too good for you,’ you limit yourself greatly in the dating game.

Here's how to become better at dating
While it is never a good thing to be cocky or too full of yourself, it also a terrible, terrible idea to put yourself so low to the point of thinking you are not good enough for the great guys, or ladies.

You deserve the best, and until you get this into your mind, you’ll still be limited to the jerks and bad relationships.

    2. Stop being too picky

Perfection is actually over-hyped, so stop finding fault with everything and everybody.

By being overly picky, you’re going to drive away loads of great people who just have little creases that you could have helped them iron out.

    3. Undefined goals

Why are you looking to date without an idea of what you want in mind?

No matter how vague or unclear it might seem [depending on how much you have been disappointed], you just need to have one idea in mind of what you want from potential partners or lovers.

Sort out what you want, and the rest should come less difficultly.

    4. Drop the desperation

Somehow, desperation reeks and people can always spot it.

You do not want to be that guy whose desperation can be smelled from a mile away, or the girl nobody wants because they know you’re desperate to marry and settle down.

So cut it out and be calm, will you?

    5. Refusal to compromise

You won’t always get what you want all the time. Knowing what to let go of, and what to not budge over is very important.

  • Police foil attempt to blackmail Imo federal lawmaker

Police foil attempt to blackmail Imo federal lawmaker

The Police in Imo have described as “frivolous and unfounded” the allegation of rape levelled against Kingsley Uju, a member of the House of Representatives.

SP Orlando Ikeokwu, spokesman for the Imo Police Command, said at a news conference on Wednesday that the allegation against the lawmaker (Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/ Oru West Federal Constituency) was unfounded.

The PPRO said investigations revealed that a woman, Mrs Nkeiruka Kamalu, 40, and other conspirators attempted to blackmail and extort money from the lawmaker.

According to him, on May 5, a case of advance fee fraud, conspiracy, forgery and threat to life, was lodged against Kamalu.

He said that the woman had claimed to be pregnant for Uju and blackmailed him into sending various sums of money to her, including the money to travel to Canada to have the baby.

Ikeokwu, however, said that diligent investigations revealed that Kamalu was neither pregnant nor travelled to Canada nor had a set of twins as she claimed.

He said rather, she connived with one Emeka Muoneke to buy a child somewhere at Nnewi in Anambra with N1.8 million.

“Our investigations reveal that all of Kamalu’s allegations were false.

“She actually got software that enabled her phone to show a foreign number anytime she placed a call to Uju.

“Kamalu and Muoneke confessed to the crime and also led detectives to Nnewi where they bought the child and all the suspects, including a homeopathic doctor, who sold the baby to them, were arrested and charged to court.

“We have all the details of the phone calls, text and Whastsapp messages she sent to Uju, using her phone and that of Muoneke.

“We hereby wish to state that Kamalu’s claims that she was victimised, tortured and unlawfully detained were false and baseless and intended to deceive members of the public,’’ the PPRO said. (NAN)
