    Jackye’s Final Day

    By Jennifer Y Omiloli

Jackye was the subsequent Housemate to be Evicted today and the twelfth Housemate to take an exit from the Pepper Dem race.

As indicated by her, her hardest part in the House was remaining in the same space with a some of the Housemates with negative vitality in the House. When inquired as to whether she showed herself enough, she uncovered to Ebuka that she was herself in the game and just took as much time as necessary to know the Housemates first before loosening up.

“Mike is my guy,” she said when asked who she’ll miss in the House the most. To her, Mike was an older sibling and a genuine companion who consistently put her under wraps in the game.

Additionally, she didn’t neglect to disclose to us that she’ll be taking her Artificial Intelligence (AI) venture further after the Big Brother game.

To seal her last words on the Stage, she admitted that she’s rooting for Mercy to be delegated the champ of the Pepper Dem Season, as she would need a female to win the show.

Being the first Housemate to be Evicted today around evening time, Gedoni had his last stop in the Pepper Dem race. He appeared to have dealt with his eviction well and was found dropping on his knees after his Eviction declaration by Ebuka.

Wearing his exquisite customary clothing, Gedoni admitted to Ebuka on the Stage that he was attracted to Khafi due to her certain vitality and capacity to remain consistent with herself. At the point when asked what else he appreciated in the House asides his association with Khafi, he referenced his minutes during the games.

Gedoni plans to grow his garments line in the midst of different business thoughts down the pipeline. We can hardly wait to see him exceed expectations in his future plans. Good karma, Gedoni!

  • China not held accountable for US fentanyl abuse

    By Zhong Sheng

Abuse of fentanyl is a chronic disease of American society, and it’s natural for the country to seek a cure.
However, calling white black in an attempt to defame China, some people in the US are passing the buck and saying China is responsible for the abuse.
They turn a blind eye to China’s forceful measures to schedule the entire category of fentanyl-related substances as controlled substances, and neglect the country’s sincerity in actively seeking cooperation with the US on international law enforcement of drug control

Nevertheless, such false accusation is doomed to collapse in front of facts. Exerting an extremely strict control over fentanyl-related substances, the Chinese government has regulated 25 variants of fentanyl and 2 precursors, more than those on the United Nations’list.

In 2017, China National Narcotic Control Committee offered the US over 400 pieces of information about fentanyl-sourcing cases, and over 500 pieces of information about purchases of new psychoactive substances.
China has taken active measures to respond to US concerns. The country completed relevant legal procedures just four months after it declared to schedule the entire category of fentanyl-related substances as controlled substances on Dec.1 last year.

The decision officially came into effect starting May 1, listing all fentanyl-like substances in China as narcotics. Compared with the US control of these substances, Chinese measures are wider, stricter and longer-acting.
China’s efforts to strictly control fentanyl-related substances are broadly recognized by the world. Statistics from the US Drug Enforcement Administration indicated that only four cases of fentanyl-like substance trafficking from China were reported by the US Customs and Border Protection in the second quarter of this year after China started scheduling fentanyl-related substances.
At a hearing held by the US Senate Committee on the Judiciary, even the US Department of Justice admitted that China has made a significant step in cracking down on fentanyl-like substances, saying the department was inspired by China’s class-wide control of the substances.

However, with this being done by China, the number of overdose deaths related to fentanyl still stood high in the US. It fully indicated the evil intention of some people in the US who call China a major source of fentanyl-related substances. The mud will never be thrown at China.

As a matter of fact, the US has 5 percent of the world’s population, but is consuming 80 percent of opioid drugs. It is the largest market of narcotics. A large number of Americans died because of the overdose of fentanyl-related substances in recent years.

The US itself should be responsible for the situation. Abusing prescription pain relievers is a prevailing tradition of the country, and what lies behind it is a complete profit chain established by pharmaceutical companies, medical representatives and doctors.

The US is facing complicated challenges including the growing sales of pharmaceutical companies, the over-prescribing of doctors, the government’s inability to cope with the situation, as well as the legalization of marijuana. All these challenges lead to the continuous expansion of the narcotics market.

Washington has not yet rolled out a systematic and complete set of strong measures as this issue concerns the interests of various parties. Though the US places all fentanyl-related substances under Schedule I, it is only on a temporary basis for a two-year period that lasts till Feb. 6, 2020.
It is reported that some US politicians always beat around the bush when it comes to the reason of fentanyl abuse, so as to win more votes and cater for their respective interest groups to guarantee their future political career.
Besides, the structural contradiction in the US federal government intensified the malfunction of the anti-drug law system. Keeping and trading marijuana violates the federal law, but is considered legal in some states.

A trivial illness ignored would turn fatal. What US politicians should see is that the illness derived from the US itself. The country should stop their blind and desperate search for possible solutions, and not blame others for its own fault. It must prevent new “hypochondriasis”, especially when it is still suffering one.

  • Robert Kuhn: Hong Kong is China and will remain China

By Zheng Qi from People’s Daily

“Stability is the foundation of economic development just as rule of law is the foundation of civil society. Instability in Hong Kong, like instability anywhere, retards economic growth.” Dr. Robert Lawrence Kuhn told People’s Daily.

The China expert continued to stress that “it is understandable that leading Hong Kong entrepreneurs have criticized the violence, which directly impacts the value of their assets, especially real estate. Some wonder why it took them so long.”

Dr. Kuhn is an American public intellectual, international corporate strategist and investment banker. Over the past decades, he had put his focus on China and has been a media commentator on China’s politics and economy.

Dr. Kuhn didn’t hide his disagreement with the current claims by some in the West that China’s Central Government is trying to control Hong Kong in a more repressive way.

“Those who claim that China’s central government seeks to control Hong Kong in a more repressive way betray their lack of understanding of China. Hong Kong’s role has been a vital portal for multinational corporations to do business in China, building China’s economy, strengthening China’s technology. Why would China want to jeopardize that?”He noted.

In a recent article, shared by himself to People’s Daily, Dr. Kuhn wrote that “looking forward, Hong Kong is China and will remain China.” He also stressed that he continues to believe that “the Central Government seeks the best for Hong Kong, stressing social stability, essential for economic development, and rule of law, essential for social development.”

Over the past few days, some political voice in Washington has been asking for linking the current situation in Hong Kong to the US-China trade negotiations and using Hong Kong as leverage to pressure compromise from China.

“Any who would link the Hong Kong issue with US-China trade negotiations badly misreads the Chinese government and the sensitivities of a large majority of the Chinese people. Such ‘bargaining’, in essence using Hong Kong as a ‘trading chip’, would be a gross insult to the Hong Kong people.” Dr. Kuhn said.

As he viewed it, Hong Kong’s economic future is almost totally related to its integration with the mainland, especially the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, a grand vision of regional coordinated development.

“The Greater Bay Area gross domestic product is around $1.7 trillion, 12 percent of China’s GDP, and is projected to reach around $3.5 trillion by 2030. If the Greater Bay Area were a country, its GDP would rank almost in the world’s top 10.” Dr. Kuhn added.

  • Certain western politicians should immediately stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs

Certain western politicians should immediately stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs

    By Lu Qiao

Hong Kong was put into extreme chaos by illegal assemblies and violent protests, which have lasted more than two months and aroused resentment among Hong Kong residents.

When the Hong Kong society is calling for immediate actions to stop violence, some politicians of certain western countries couldn’t resist the temptation to meddle in Hong Kong.

By openly supporting radical protestors and intervening in China’s internal affairs, these politicians play a disgraceful role during the recent protests and violent incidents. Recently, they don’t even bother to conceal their evil intentions as they step from behind the scenes to the stage.

In the color revolutions taking place since the end of the 20th century, western forces usually hid behind violent demonstrators and manipulated the latter’s behaviors, or clamored for violence and conspired to stir up trouble in a cloak of morality and justice. However, the old tricks proven useful in other places didn’t work in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong police who they want to discredit and strike down not only exercised professionalism and restraint, but also fulfilled their duties with sheer determination. They never backed down in the face of pressure.

To show their support for the police, Hong Kong residents took part in massive activities. Large groups of people visited several police stations in Hong Kong to express their firm support for and utmost respect to the police force, praising the police officers as the shield of Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong people have grown fed up with some western politicians who instructed, trained and funded radical protestors to destabilize Hong Kong. An increasing number of Hong Kong residents have expressed the hope that violence and chaos could be ended and order be resumed.

As the attempt to destabilize Hong Kong is about to fail, certain politicians naturally become anxious.

Under the “one country, two systems” principle, Hong Kong is widely acknowledged for its free business environment and high international competitiveness.

Some western officials are so naive and arrogant as to believe that they can throw Hong Kong into turmoil by making a few excuses, chanting several slogans, and fostering some minions. Stability and peace is in the interest of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong people could perfectly tell right from wrong. So could all the Chinese people.

The ulterior motive of some western politicians to launch the anti-China agenda through destabilizing Hong Kong has been exposed. By intervening in Hong Kong affairs and instigating violent incidents, their purpose to restrain China by fair means or foul has also been revealed.

US vice president Mike Pence recently proposed that the Sino-US economic and trade negotiations be linked to Hong Kong issues. This is nothing but political blackmail.

The western politicians underestimated the ability of the Hong Kong government to exercise legal governance and that of the police to enforce the law, the aspiration of the Hong Kong people for stability, and the determination and willpower of the Chinese government to safeguard national sovereignty, security, unity and Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability.

The external forces and radical protestors are going against the trend of history by fanning up disorder in Hong Kong, and initiating the anti-China agenda through destabilizing Hong Kong is never going to succeed.

Hong Kong’s affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and no other countries, organizations or individuals have the right to meddle in China’s domestic affairs.

Any attempt to cause chaos in Hong Kong and curb China’s development will not get its way. Any practice that undermines Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability and challenges the bottom line of the “one country, two systems” principle will surely be condemned by all Chinese people, including the Hong Kong compatriots.

Certain western politicians should immediately stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs.

  • China’s SOEs play fair in global competition

China’s SOEs play fair in global competition

    By Zhong Sheng

China’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are independent market entities that engage in autonomous operations, and make profits and assume losses independently.

Bearing risks on their own, practicing self-discipline and pursuing self-development, they compete with other enterprises of different ownerships on a level playing field.

However, they have long been regarded as a thorn in the side of some Americans who stubbornly believe that “those who are not with us must be against us”. Fabricating stories about Chinese SOEs and maliciously defaming them, these Americans spare no effort to stigmatize and demonize these Chinese companies.
Since China’s accession to the WTO, the country has been actively reforming its policies to ensure compliance and fully performing the obligations under the WTO Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures. Not only has China completely cancelled prohibited subsidies, but also strictly abided by the WTO rules on subsidy transparency.
Over a thousand relevant notifications have been submitted by the country to the WTO.

In July 2018, China submitted to the WTO notifications of the central and sub-national subsidy policies between 2015 and 2016 which for the first time covered all of provincial-level administrative regions.

Meanwhile, making active and effective efforts to straighten out and standardize industrial subsidies, relevant Chinese departments have created a market environment where companies of all ownerships and sizes are treated as equals and compete on a level playing field.

China, keeping its commitment with concrete actions, has been highly acclaimed by the international community. Pascal Lamy, former Director-General of the WTO, said that “China has done really well in terms of implementing its long list of commitments” and that the U.S. is wrong when it targets China as the “big cheater”.

It’s hardly possible to disassociate the U.S. speculation of the so-called huge Chinese SOE subsidies from the sour grapes and mental malfunction of some U.S. officials.

On the latest Fortune Global 500 list, Chinese companies for the first time outnumbered those of the U.S., and quite a lot of the listed were SOEs.
The excellent performance of the Chinese companies in the global market wakened the devil in the hearts of some U.S. officials who therefore hope to expel their Chinese competitors from the market.

The WTO rules neither differentiate between private companies and SOEs nor discriminate against SOEs.
China’s SOEs are a significant driving force for the country’s economic development, and an important contributor to the development of global economy.

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, these enterprises have played an irreplaceable role in the country’s endeavor to establish an independent and relatively complete industrial system as the country tried to shake off poverty and backwardness.
In recent years, Chinese SOEs, as major players in the process of economic globalization, have conformed to the laws of market, improved governance structure, and carried out multinational operation, realizing win-win development with their global partners.

However, through the “colored spectacles” of some Americans, regular activities of the market entities are natively threatening, and business deals based on equality and free will are unfair because of “government subsidies”.
Instead of creating troubles out of nothing and arrogantly finding faults of others, these Americans should take a good look at themselves.

According to statistics from Good Jobs First, a U.S. watchdog on corporate subsidies, since the 1980s, U.S. governments at different levels have given $178.1 billion in subsidies to domestic enterprises through 80,337 projects. In particular, the Boeing Company alone has received $14.5 billion of allocated subsidies from the federal and state/local governments since 2000.
The subsidy competition among different states has long become an open secret. Such competition between Kansas and Missouri even evolved into a “war” in which the two states race against each other regarding the corporate welfare they offer.

On March 28, 2019, the WTO’s Appellate Body issued its report on U.S. compliance in the Boeing dispute, ruling that Washington State failed to comply with a WTO ruling in 2012, and continued providing Boeing annually with an illegal subsidized tax break worth around $100 million.

Later on July 16, the WTO announced in its Appellate Body report that the U.S. had not fully complied with an WTO ruling in 2014, and pointed out that 11 of U.S. countervailing proceedings concerning certain products from China, including the OCTG and solar panels, were inconsistent with WTO laws.

As an adage in the western world goes, facts can always catch up with lies, even if they spread as fast as galloping horses. Some Americans had better understand it as early as possible.

Taraba community gets portable water from CSDP

    By Danzumi Ishaku Jalingo

After over a hundred years of drinking water from ponds with animals, the Community and Social Development Projects (CSDP) has drilled a motorised borehole for the provision of portable water to Boboto village in Yorro Local government area of Taraba state.

Chief Sindi Shonvo, village head of Boboto, told newsman on Thursday that lack of portable water source had always been the problem of the community since they settled in the area over a hundred years ago.

Shonvo, said that successive governments in the state had promised to bring water to the community after listening to the plight of the people but always failed.

He narrated that the people had to travel to hours to the nearest pond to fetch water.

According to him, it became extremely difficult during the dry season when they had to spend agonising hours for the pond to generate water for them to fetch.

“It has been a very difficult experience for us. I am so excited that the Governor Darius Ishaku, in collaboration with the CSDP has listened to our cry and has brought this succour to our people.

“In the past, our women had to go to the pond that is very far away from here to go and fetch water.

“That is the same pond where our animals also drink an during the dry season, some of our children will even stop going to schools sourcing for water.

” They will spend long hours at the pond waiting their turns to fetch and today, all of that is put to rest now.

“With this borehole in our community now, half of our problem is solved and everyone is happy. ” The men, women, children, our animals and those making Burukutu (local beer) for us are all excited and happy’ the village head said.

Some of the people who spoke to Journalists expressed overwhelming joy over the development.

According to thirteen years old Veronica Santi, “now I don’t have to go to school late every day and we will continue going to school even during the dry season, the time we used to stop going to school because of water”.

Similarly, Joseph Shonva, a physically challenged man told Daybreak news that his plight for looking for water to bath and wash clothes had being addressed.

Daybreak reports that the entire village was thrown into jubilation as a new borehole was commissioned in the community by CSDP.

OPERATION GREEN SWEEP 3: NAF STRIKES KILL SCORES OF TERRORISTS IN BULA KOREGE, BORNO

    By Samuel Itsede

Scores of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) have been neutralized and their hideout destroyed at Bula Korege on the fringes of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

In a statement by Air Force spokes man Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, This was achieved in devastating air strikes conducted by the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE as part of missions in the ongoing Operation GREEN SWEEP 3.

The target was designated for attack based on credible Intelligence reports, which were further corroborated by series of Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, that established the settlement as a major hub of BHT activities.

The ATF therefore detailed 2 Alpha Jets to attack the target area. The air strikes were synchronized for maximum effect, recording devastating hits on the BHT hideout and killing several of their fighters, as captured in the Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) footage.

The statement further noted that the NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its operations against the terrorists in the Northeast.

Prospective corp members caught with fake certificates in Taraba

    By Danzumi Ishaku

The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday handed over three prospective corps members found with fake certificates to the police and other security operatives in the camp for further investigation.

Mrs Florence Yaakugh, the Taraba Coordinator of NYSC, who handed over the prospective batch B stream 2 corps members at the camp in Jalingo, said the verification officer discovered them with fake documents.

Yaakugh named the perspective corps members as Nasiru Yau, who claimed to have studied Mass Communication, Shehu Murktar -Computer Science and Illiyasu Usman- sociology, all from Isfop University of Kotonu, in Benin Republic.

“They came for registration and the verification officer discovered them with fake certificates and verification papers.

“If you will recall, the Director General of NYSC Brig Gen Shauibu Ibrahim had recently expressed deep concern over the activities of fake corps members who cannot make a correct sentence in the English language.

“He directed us to check and fish out such persons and hand them over to the security operatives for further investigation and this is what we are just doing,” he explained.

She noted that their preliminary investigation revealed that the persons involved cannot write or say anything logical about their courses of study.

Yaakugh urged the security agents to do a thorough job so that the truth would come out and justice done to the affected persons.

According to her, there was another similar case involving a female corps member, also a foreign student but the verification officer was yet to conclude internal investigation into her case.

Speaking with the prospective corps members, they claimed to have graduated from the institution but admitted to forging their verification papers.

Yau told that he gained admission through an agent and graduated but when he came to Nigeria for computer verification, they disqualified him that why he forged the verification paper to enable him go to the camp.

Murktar said he collected the verification paper from his friends and photocopied and filled in his information while Usman explained that he sent some people working at the computer centre who obtained his verification paper for him, saying he thought it was not a fake one.
