Okorocha Fighting With Ill-Gotten Wealth- Irona

…Reiterates Govt. Commitment to Partnering NTA

    By Jennifer Yusuf

Deputy Governor of Imo State, Engr. Gerald Irona says former Governor Rochas Okorocha is fighting the present administration of Chief Emeka Ihedioha with ill-gotten wealth.

The Deputy Governor stated this in Owerri while receiving a delegation of the management team of the Nigerian Television Authority –NTA, Friday afternoon in his office.

“Let me reiterate the commitment of the present administration in Imo State, led by Chief Emeka Ihedioha to partner with the Nigerian Television Authority and all other Federal public institutions in the state. We are all working for the general interest of Nigerians.”

“We have finished politicking and this is time for governance and all hands must be on deck to ensure that Nigeria moves forward. The country is going through a difficult period. You will recall that almost on daily basis, there are media reports of ugly incidents and social vices everywhere.”

“We will encourage you to ensure that you support the government to fight crime in Imo State. Banditry has no boundaries and we must encourage the exposure of criminals, particularly, those that have looted our treasury. They must not be condoned. A criminal is a criminal. Criminals all over the world fight with ill-gotten wealth. It is the responsibility of the media to expose people who, in their opinion, through investigative journalism are corrupt.”

“We met Imo that people had lost confidence in government. We met Imo that was disoriented. There was a disconnect between the citizens and the government. Look at the challenge of flooding in Owerri. People built on canals and water ways and Owerri master plan was distorted. You can see that there are no good roads in Owerri. Someone was in charge of this state for eight years and you can see the depth of infrastructural deficit. He is now using looted funds to fight the present administration for asking questions that every responsible administration must ask. We are barely two months old and I can assure you that Imo State will smile.”

Earlier in her speech, General Manager of NTA Channel 12, Owerri, Mrs. Franca Akinneye congratulated the Governor and the Deputy Governor for their victory at the polls.

She pledged the commitment of the station towards partnering with the present administration to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

Mrs. Akinneye assured the Deputy Governor of their commitment to professional and responsible journalism, irrespective of the political party in power.

“We are professionals and we are committed to professionalism, not minding the political party in power.”

Highpoint of the meeting was a presentation of Star Times Television Decoder to the Deputy Governor by the Head of Station.

Present at the meeting were: Communication Adviser to the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Dr. Walter Duru, Admin Manager of NTA Channel 12, Owerri, Emmanuel Opara, Marketing Manager, Martha Okoro, Babatunde Gbenga, Ugwu Hycinth, Chibuzo Lilian Okpara, Ada Oke and Nkiru Onyejesi.

The central government has started moves to recuperate the total sum of N614 billion it prior provided for 35 states on what has been portrayed as budget support.

To this end, the government has set up a committee to recuperate the reserve.

The setting up of the committee comes around 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari introduced his bureau.

The minister of finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed, made the declaration when she advised State House journalists toward the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Recall that the minister had exhibited an update to the gathering concerning the budget support office which she said 35 states profited from.

According to her, every one of the influenced states would need to pay back an equivalent of N175 billion.

***The United States government releases the names of the 80 Nigerians suspected to have been engaged with very much planned fraud in the nation

***The US likewise portrays the techniques embraced by the supposed fraudsters prompting the cheating of blameless residents

    By Jennifer Y Omiloli

The United States government discharged full list and identities of the 80 speculated fraudsters, with many being Nigerians, captured in the nation.

As per an announcement discharged by the US authorities, the speculates either assumed real jobs in the supposed fraud or went about as associates.

The United States lawyer, Nick Hanna, stated:“This case is part of our ongoing efforts to protect Americans from fraudulent online schemes and to bring to justice those who prey upon American citizens and businesses.

“Today, we have taken a major step to disrupt criminal networks that use BEC schemes, romance scams and other frauds to fleece victims. This indictment sends a message that we will identify perpetrators – no matter where they reside – and we will cut off the flow of ill-gotten gains.”

The nation named Valentine Iro, 31, and Chukwudi Christogunus Igbokwe, 38, as lead suspects including that once an unfortunate casualty saved assets into a ledger or a cash administrations account, the pair purportedly planned with others to further wash the assets.

Investigations uncovered that members of the conspiracy sometimes wired assets to other bank account under their influence or withdraw same as money or debatable instruments, for example, clerk’s checks.

The US said the suspects regularly “used illicit money exchangers to move funds overseas, generally avoiding transferring the funds directly through banking institutions, the indictment alleges.

“To do this, Iro and Igbokwe coordinated the transfer of a victim’s funds from a fraudulent bank account they controlled to US bank accounts belonging to illicit money exchangers.

“Those money exchangers, in turn, used a Nigerian banking application to transfer other funds in naira (₦), the currency of Nigeria, from Nigerian bank accounts they controlled to the Nigerian bank accounts specified by Iro and Igbokwe,” the statement said.

The authorities said this strategy was used to transfer millions of dollars to Nigerian co-conspirators without directly transferring funds overseas.

  • U.S. covers up its own misdeeds by accusing China of cyber theft

    By Zhong Sheng

Some U.S. politicians have really racked their brains to trump up charges against China. Recently, they once again framed China by saying the country hacked U.S. computers and stole U.S. trade secrets, staging a farce with new wording.

The large-scale and organized cyber espionage activities conducted by relevant U.S. departments on foreign governments, enterprises and individuals are not a secret at all, making Uncle Sam the largest empire of hackers – a globally recognized fact.
However, these politicians are disguising the U.S. as a victim of cyber-attacks, trying to cover up its own misdeeds by shifting the blame. How laughable it is!

The “achievements” made by the U.S. in cyber theft have no parallel in the whole world.
Edward Snowden revealed that the notorious PRISM surveillance program of the National Security Agency (NSA) of the U.S. was running 24 hours a day for unauthorized monitoring of emails and social media communication. Even some state leaders and heads of international organizations had long been secretly monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies.

In 2017, WikiLeaks disclosed nearly 9,000 confidential documents, revealing that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), with its unparalleled hacking capability, hacked into various smart devices including cellphones, computers, and smart TVs.

According to reports by Western media, 90 percent of the world’s communication was under U.S. surveillance.
What’s worth more attention is that the U.S. military and intelligence agencies are building the world’s largest cyber arsenal that is as deadly as nuclear weapons, triggering a global cyber arms race.
In 2009, the U.S. military established the U.S. Cyber Command, and elevated it to the 10th unified combatant command of the country in 2017.

Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, revealed that the U.S. has developed as many as 2,000 types of cyber-weapons, making it the No.1 cyber weapon producer in the world.
In addition, information disclosed by cyber security organizations indicated that the two advanced persistent threats (APTs) groups, Equation and Project Sauron, which are considered to be at Thanos level in the industry, are both supported by NSA behind the scene.

As indicated by a recent annual report on China’s cyber security published by China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team (CNCERT), most of the cyber-attacks China received were from the U.S., and the number kept growing.
In 2018, 3,325 IP addresses in the U.S., up 43 percent from 2017, planted Trojans in 3,607 websites on the Chinese mainland.

Cyber theft and hacker attack are just all-too-common practices of the U.S., as substantial evidences suggest.
Who on earth is launching frequent cyber-attacks and stealing secrets around the globe? Who is the first opening the “Pandora’s box” of enhancing cyber warfare capabilities? Facts speak louder than words, and the truth is self-evident.

As it is written in ancient Chinese political and philosophical text Guanzi, “Nothing is more beneficial than stability, and nothing is more detrimental than chaos.” Cyber security concerns the common interests of various countries and needs to be jointly safeguarded by the international community.
China has a consistent and clear stance on cyber security. Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed on many occasions that both commercial cyber theft and hacking against government networks are crimes that must be punished in accordance with law and relevant international treaties.
As a firm defender of cyber security, China has never engaged in any form of cyber theft or supported anyone in stealing trade secrets.

China is also an active advocate for international cooperation on cyber security. The country has proposed four principles that must be upheld in order to make progress in the transformation of the global Internet governance system, put forward five proposals with an aim of jointly building a community of shared future in cyberspace, and actively carried out international cooperation on cyber security via bilateral and multilateral channels.
In recent years, China has jointly established specialized dialogue mechanisms with the U.S., the UK, and the European Union (EU) to boost cyber security cooperation, and put forward constructive proposals for promoting international cooperation on cyberspace through multilateral mechanisms including the UN and Group of 20 (G20).
The absurd argument of the so-called “cyber theft” cooked up by U.S. politicians to smear China revealed their evil intentions. However, such arguments, no matter how they are reworded or disguised, cannot withstand even a single blow in the face of irrefutable facts and would only serve as a butt of a joke for the international community.

  • It’s not China’s fault that some US companies are going out of business

It’s not China’s fault that some US companies are going out of business

    By Zhong Sheng, People’s Daily

It is already an old trick for some people in the US to pass the buck for whatever crises that arise in their own country.

Recently, they brought up the theory that China dumped goods onto the US market, striking their industries and causing native companies to close down.

Filled with anger, they condemned China as if the country has to take the blame for the collapse of American companies. How unreasonable is that?

Anyone with some insight will know immediately that the US is trying to frame China and make the latter a scapegoat for its own fault.

China has always traded with other countries legally and legitimately on the basis of free trade. It is a natural economic phenomenon that Chinese goods show strong competitiveness in international markets with relatively low costs of production and high quality.

Some US officials keep preaching free market competition, yet what they have done doesn’t seem to conform to their words.

The US randomly compared the price of products from a third-party country with that from China and then determined that China dumped goods on the American market.

In 2014, the World Trade Organization decided that the 25 anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations conducted by the US against China from 2006 to 2012 violated the WTO rules. Clearly, the US has abused the punitive measures.

Since the US falsely diagnosed its problem, it is impossible for it to provide right prescriptions.

In 2009, United Steelworkers (USW) claimed that a total of five US tire factories closed and 5,100 workers became unemployed from 2004 to 2008.

Using this as an excuse, America added 35 percent, 30 percent, and 25 percent punitive tariffs for three consecutive years respectively on Chinese passenger car and light truck tires. At one point, the export volume of affected tire products to the US declined by more than 60 percent.

However, the market share of US products didn’t increase and the country failed to protect domestic industries or improve employment.
Within three years, 1,200 jobs were added in the US tire industry. However, American consumers spent $1.1 billion more on tire and related products and the retail industry lost more than 3,700 jobs.

It is a proven fact that accusing others with no warrant and even abusing punitive tariffs could only bring unfortunate consequences.

With the economy developing and the industry being upgraded, it is economic normalcy as well as an objective law to eliminate some outdated production capacity.

In the book The Choice: A Fable of Free Trade and Protectionism, American economist Russell Roberts told a story about Ed Johnson, a fictional US television manufacturer, who traveled to the future with David Ricardo, proponent of comparative advantage theory.

Johnson was very depressed when his television factory collapsed. But Ricardo told him that the secret of success lies in comparative advantage and opportunity cost.

The US can only maximize its profits by converting to the industry that it is better at and making the products that bring more profits. Then it could use the money it earns to buy TV sets. In the process, the US is still a winner.

Today, the US has upgraded its industries to high-end manufacturing, modern service, and etc. Over 80 percent of the job losses can be traced back to the improved efficiency brought by new technologies.

This is an inevitable trend in line with economic development as well as a pragmatic choice made by the US itself. It is hard for the world to understand why the US becomes so resentful and angry.

It seems that the US got sick, yet it forced others to take medicine.

In the era of economic globalization, market encourages countries to join the international industrial chain with their advantages. The international production system is increasingly connected and the division of labor is becoming clearer.

While enjoying the benefits brought about by the division of labor in the global market, some US officials pretended to be the victims and even blamed other countries for the collapse of American businesses in market competition.

This fully exposed the bullying nature of some Americans, who are good at making things up to satisfy their greed for profits.

It is impossible to address the issue in America by spreading rumors and smearing other countries or by setting up thresholds and adopting trade protectionism.

The escalating US-China economic and trade frictions unilaterally provoked by the US have caused more and more American companies to lay off their staff, which is a convincing evidence.
