The Nigerian Army has pledged it support to the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun state to ensure adequate security of lives and property of citizens.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. Anthony Omozoje, made the pledge during a familiarisation visit to the governor, at Governor’s Office, Osogbo.

Omozoje assured the state of the military’s readiness to collaborate with other security agencies in the state to help nip in the bud all forms of insecurity challenges in the state and its environs.

He said the 2 Division has been working assiduously to flush out criminals within and outside her jurisdiction.

The newly posted GOC, who described his visit to the governor as a necessity, said no effort would be spared to ensure that Osun maintains it status as one of the safest states in Nigeria.

He said: “I am here to introduce myself to you and to inform you that 2 Division of the Nigerian Army will work in line with the constitution of Nigeria and the rules of engagement of the army to strengthen the security and maintain peace.

“I have been visiting our commands to see to their needs and see what we can do to support them so as to make them functional and efficient. We are working very hard to keep our country safe and ensure that citizens are given adequate security.”

Responding, Gov. Oyetola said his administration has been blessed with efficient and effective men and officers of the security agencies. He commended the Nigerian Army for being proactive in its efforts to ensure the security of lives and property of citizens.

Gov. Oyetola, who described officers and men of the Nigerian Army as most effective, said the state will continue to recognise the impacts made by the military at ensuring peace and stability in the state and country at large.

He congratulated the new GOC on his appointment, urging him to strengthen the bond between his office and the state government.

“There is no doubt in the fact that our state benefited sufficiently from the support given by the military before, during and after the last governorship election in the state.

“Without the efforts of the military, we won’t be able to curtail some criminal activities most especially kidnapping in the state. So, I commend the military for ensuring peace, security and stability in Nigeria. We value your involvement in securing our state because it is a known fact that criminals disappear whenever the military is around or involved.

“As a government, we are resolute to partner any security agency and stakeholders to keep the state safe. We are grateful to you for joining the combined patrol team set up by the state government to ensure that our state remains the most peaceful and safest state in Nigeria.

“We are inviting investors to invest in our state and the only way to achieve this is to strengthen the security,” Oyetola added.

Nnamdi Kanu describes #RevolutionNow as Laudible Initiative.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has showered praise on pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore, for leading the call for Nigerians to march against the ineptitude of the government in power at the federal level.

Sowore was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services in the early hours of Saturday in a Lagos hotel.

But despite his arrest and detention, protests went on across major cities of the country on Monday even with the heavy presence of policemen and military personnel.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kanu described Buhari’s administration as a government “full of unbridled self-hate, stupendous ignorance, hypocrisy oozing from every pore in their decrepit body and filled with unimaginable wickedness.”

Kanu, according to a report by Daily Post, further said, “This same set of people now in Aso Rock and their media friends that came out on the street to march, protest and call for #Revolution against President Jonathan in 2014, are today the same bunch of despicable reprobates against any form of lawful dissent, protest or revolution against their regime.

“This is not only laughable but an affront to decency, justice and fair play. Apparently, the occupants of Aso Rock is telling the world they can call for a revolution and street protest against a sitting President i.e. Jonathan but nobody is allowed to protest against them.

“Buhari did the same thing in 2014 by openly calling for a revolution and organising nationwide street protests with the likes of Bola Ahmed Tinubu participating in that march against the democratically elected government of Goodluck Jonathan.

“#RevolutionNowis a laudable initiative and must be commended by all lovers of freedom.

“What Sowore did in calling for a revolution in Nigeria is the highest form of bravery. Protests should continue and if need be, intensified especially in Yorubaland he is set free.”

El-zakzaky: House Of Reps Commend Buhari, DSS For Obeying Court Order

The House of Representatives has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for obeying the court order granting Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), leave to seek medical attention abroad.

Igbere TV had reported that a Kaduna State High Court, yesterday, granted the Cleric leave to enable him and his wife, Zeenat travel to India for medical attention.

Justice Darius Khobo while granting the IMN leader the leave said he would travel in company of Kaduna State government officials.

He said the IMN leader must return immediately after his discharge from the hospital to face his charges.

The DSS while acknowledging the court order, said the Service would comply with the directive.

“This is to inform the public that the Department of State Services (DSS) has received the order granting Ibrahim El-Zakzaky leave to travel to India for medical treatment. Consequently, the Service is liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance. Conformity with the order is in line with the Service’s avowed commitment to the Rule of Law inherent in a democracy”, it said.

Reacting to the development, Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu told Igbere TV on phone that the decision of the DSS to obey the order has further confirmed their willingness to respect the independence of the judiciary.

Kalu representing Bende Federal Constituency, said also that the move was an indication that the present government respects the rule of law.

“The House of Representatives commends the DSS for confirming our confidence in their willingness to respect the independence of the various arms of government especially the judiciary”, he said.

“You will agree with us that the independence of the judiciary is critical to the success of our democracy. We consider this an indication that the rule of law is prioritised and respected by this government.

“The court ruling was made to ensure the good health of the accused person. It does not stop the judicial arm from tidying up the process of his trial upon his return. Recall, it was not an application for bail that was granted. The matter is still before a court of competent jurisdiction. It will be contemptuous, for us to speak in details on such sub judicial matter.

“Functional democracy is better achieved in a healthy atmosphere of independence yet close partnership among the arms of Government. This was one of the proposals of the 9th House of Representative’s Joint Task of Nation Building – promoting understanding between the arms of government for the interest of the citizens.

This is a new dawn in our history of democracy, we are determined to work with all the arms of Government to take the narratives to the Next Level and With the support of the people, the effort of the present government to sustain the rule of law will be achieved”, Kalu added.

    3. Keep the savings aside: You should have separate accounts, one for your expenses and the other for your savings.

    4. Try Cooking: If you buy foodstuff and cook them by yourself, you will end up spending less than going to buy expensive cooked food at restaurants.
