College Matriculates 1,463 in Taraba

Taraba State College of Education Zing has matriculated 1,463 students across the five accredited faculties of the institution for the 2020/2021 academic session.

The 42nd matriculation of the institution which took place at the College Auditorium1  was graced by the various Heads of Departments (HODs), Directors of Programs, Deans of Schools  and other Principal Officers of the college as well as parents of the matriculated students.

Addressing the newly matriculated students and the mammoth crowd that turned out for the occasion shortly after administering the matriculation oath to the students, the Provost of the college, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, stated that by taking the oath, the students had committed themselves to be of good behavior, discipline and worthy ambassadors of the college and Taraba State in general.

The provost who tasked the students to conduct themselves according to the rules, regulation and policies governing the college, cautioned them against indulging in cultism and examination malpractices.

“Study diligently and direct all your energies into your academic work. Remember that you are to take full responsibility of your actions and inactions. Know when to play and when not to play. Shun cultism, bad friends, violence of all kinds, and examination mal-practices”. He stated.

Dr. Dio also noted that the college has a dress code which the students must fall in as immoral dressings are not allowed in the institution.

While congratulating the matriculating students for successfully scaling through the vigorous and competitive admission selection process of the college, the provost reminded them that some students of the college are presently in police custody for various crimes ranging from cultism, rapping and stealing.

Accordingly, he advised the students to Shun bad friends and all forms of illegal gathering but take their studies seriously and register their complaints and grievances through appropriate channels so that they would not fall in the trap of the college’s disciplinary majors like some of their predecessors.

Dr. Dio applauded Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku for supporting the institution in various ways and pledged the college continue loyalty to his administration. 

Also speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Taraba State Hon. Edward Barawa encouraged the students to marry their books and stay away from all forms of social vices to enable them succeed and attain all their heart desires in life.

The commissioner who was ably represented by the permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abraham Makoso described Zing community as the most peaceful area in Nigeria. 

He however expressed displeasure over the act of some disgruntled elements who had previously wanted to disturbed the peaceful atmosphere in the area and advised the matriculated students to shun such gangs.

The commissioner who appreciated the governor of Taraba State, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku for the various supports he had given to the institution, encouraged the good people of Taraba State to practically support the governor’s slogan of ‘give me peace and I will give you development’.

While congratulating the students, the Kpanti Zing, His Royal Highness, Alh. Suleiman Sambo assured them of safety in the community. He however noted that anyone who indulged in any form of breach of peace in the community would be shown the way out.

In his closing remark, the deputy provost of the college, Mal. Muhammed Nayaya appreciated the turn up of people at the event and charged the students to be good ambassadors of their alma-mater anywhere they find themselves.

Meanwhile, 457 of the matriculated students are from school of Art and Social Sciences, 86 are from School of Languages and 433 are from School of Sciences. Also, 225 are from Vocational and Technical Education while the remaining 262 are from Early Childhood Education (ECCE) and Primary Education Department (PED) respectively
