Commuters Express Concern as ‘One-Chance’ Robbers Rampage on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Commuters using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have expressed distress over the escalating activities of ‘one-chance’ robbers operating in the Mowe/Ibafo-Berger area of the route.

Several passengers voiced their concerns to the media over the weekend, highlighting the deteriorating safety conditions along the road due to the presence of these criminals.

Sarah Oladele, a teacher, shared her apprehension, stating, “I avoid going out after 7 pm and ensure a swift return home from any outing. It’s unsafe to travel on that road at night, and I prioritize my safety and that of my children.”

Similarly, Rebecca, a hawker, lamented, “I’m compelled to use this route as there’s no alternative, but the rampant activities of ‘one-chance’ perpetrators are alarming. Just last week, my brother fell victim to their assault, losing his phone and money.”

Kamoru Babajide, a bus driver, revealed his cautious approach, saying, “I limit the number of male passengers in my vehicle to three to reduce the risk of ‘one-chance’ incidents. Excessive male passengers deter potential customers due to safety concerns.”

A.Y., a victim of ‘one-chance’ robbery, recounted his harrowing experience, stating, “I was held at gunpoint while commuting from Ibafo to Berger. They forcibly took my belongings and pushed me out of the bus.”

Responding to the situation, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, assured the public of intensified patrols by Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in Mowe, Ibafo, Redeem, and Sagamu to address the menace.

She emphasized the prompt investigation of reported incidents and the prosecution of perpetrators to uphold public safety along the route.
