Confederation Cup: Bayelsa United beats CS Sfaxien 1-0

Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Yenagoa

Bayelsa United Football of Yenagoa has slim defeat over Tunisia giants, CS Safaxien in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the second tier CAF inter-club competition played yesterday at the Samson Siasia stadium.

The only goal of the match came in the 55th minutes when burly forward Victory Beniangha’s ferocious strike beat Gaaloul Medheoi in goal for CS Sfaxien.

The goal rattled the Tunisians who had dominated proceedings in the first 15 minutes, forcing them to surrender to the hosts who continued to pile pressure on them for more goals.

The Nigerian Aiteo Cup Champions had come close to scoring in the 30th and 42 minutes but the strikes from Okardi Inikurogha were stopped by the versatile CS Sfaxien goalkeeper who kept his side in the keenly contested tie.

After the painful misses, Bayelsa United again came close to increasing their tally in the added minutes of the second half of the match but their efforts failed to yield the needed result till the referees’ final whistle.

The second leg of the encounter comes up on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in Tunisia.
