Construction of roads will generate direct, indirect employment for Abuja residents – Wike

The FCT Minister, Barr .Nyesom Wike has said that the series of roads construction flagged off within one week in Abuja will generate direct and indirect employment for FCT residents.

Wike said this on Friday at the fifth flag- off of the construction of the road from Life Camp junction to Ring Road 3, otherwise known as the N5 Arterial Road in Abuja .

He said, “Am sure people living here never believed this road can be done again, but Mr President says it must be done.We are here to bring back your hope. ”

The minister who expressed his confidence in the contractor, Julius Berger Construction Company to deliver a good job, announced that the Administration had released a 70 % upfront payment for the road contract awarded.

However, he tasked Julius Berger Company to consider completion of the road project within 14 months and not the initial contract agreement of 18 months, promising to award more jobs to the contractor if they can deliver in 14 months.

Wike thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and efforts at tackling the economic and infrastructural challenges in the country, assured that the measures would soon yield positive results that would alleviate hunger.

The FCT Minister assured that very soon Nigerians will smile, and encouraged citizens to continue to pray for President Tinubu and it’s leaders, ensuring that everybody will benefit from the various Renewed Hope Initiatives.

“I can tell you, before the end of this Administration of President Tinubu, Nigerians will smile, Wike emphasized.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio represented by Chairman, Senate Committee On FCT, Ibrahim Bomai who flagged off the N5 Arterial road commended efforts of FCTA in road construction and said good road network is critical in promoting socio- economic activities.

Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, Shehu Hadi Ahmad, said the 4.4km road stretch, with 6 lanes will enhance seamless movement into the Kado fish market, life camp, karimu among others.

“The road N5 is named Obafemi Awolowo road, connecting international Conference Centre to Julius Berger Herbert Mauculay, but continuing from life camp junction in Gwarinpa 1 district, up to ring road 3 in Iddo Gwari district, covering 4.4km , 6 lanes of three dual carriageway expected to bring relief for residents of Kado, Karimu, Gwarinpa, Dape, Iddo – Gwari as well as Saburi and Dei-dei”, Ahmad explained.
