A political group in Ondo, Ibi Giga Ambassador, has cancelled its inauguration of constituency and ward ambassadors in view of efforts to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Mr Dapo Daramola, Consultant on Electronic Media to Ibi Giga Ambassador, said this in a statement on Thursday in Akure.
NAN reports that the state government on Monday placed total ban on all political, social and religious gathering in the state for 14 days in the first instance.
Ibi Giga Ambassador is a foremost political support group for the re-election of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State for second term.
According to the group, cancellation of its programmes was in line with the ban on public gatherings with more than 50 people by the state government.
“Specifically, the decision affects the plan for the mega-inauguration of the constituency and ward ambassadors.
“The directorate believes that as a law-abiding group, it should obey all precautionary measures put in place to prevent the spread of the virus,’’ the group said.
It, therefore, urged members of the directorate, constituency coordinators and ward ambassadors to continue with their mobilisation at the grassroots.
The group also implored all residents of the state to stay safe at this period, and to also remember the world in prayers.
