CSGGG Condemns Unlawful Suspension of Prof. Igwe as FNHE Medical Director, Demands Reinstatement

…..Describes Minister’s Action as Corporate Rascality

…Urges President Tinubu to Intervene

The Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG), has strongly condemned the unlawful suspension and termination of Prof. Monday Igwe as Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu (FNHE).

In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic, CSGGG described Igwe’s suspension and termination as “unlawful” and the Minister’s action as “corporate rascality,” undermining the House of Representatives Committee on Petition’s order.

Prof. Igwe was suspended on September 20, 2023, following frivolous petitions. However, a 7-man investigation team cleared him of all allegations, recommending his reinstatement.

Despite this, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare disregarded the order, praying for Igwe’s termination. The Ministry conducted an interview on July 11 to select a new Medical Director, replacing Igwe, despite his clearance.

“We are appalled by the Minister’s brazen disregard for the committee’s decision… This suspension and termination is a clear case of vendetta… undermining Igwe’s efforts,” Comrade Ogakwu said.

The House Committee on Petition found Igwe committed only one infraction—non-adherence to administrative procedure—recommending disciplinary measures, not dismissal.

CSGGG urged the Minister to respect the committee’s decision and reinstate Igwe immediately, appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and ensure justice and the rule of law.

The group warned that ignoring their appeal would lead to a rally/protest with other patriotic civil society organizations.

Attempts to reach Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa and Permanent Secretary Ms. Daju Kachollom via text messages and calls were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, CSGGG alleged that Minister Alausa attempted to impose his preferred candidate, Dr. Ngozichukwu Unaogu, as Medical Director despite failing the interview.

According to the group, the action is an embarrassment and disrepute to President Tinubu’s Renewed Agenda.
