CUPP accuses FG of being unjust to Nigerians with fuel prices

CUPP Condemns Fuel Price Hike, Calls for Government Intervention

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) expressed strong disapproval of the recent increase in fuel prices, labeling it as exorbitant and contributing to soaring inflation rates.

In a press release issued by co-Spokesperson Mark Adebayo in Abuja, the CUPP criticized the sudden surge in fuel prices, which came just a month after a more than 300 percent increase. The coalition voiced concerns about the adverse effects of this escalation on the prices of other goods and services, exacerbating poverty and plunging Nigerians into unprecedented economic hardship.

CUPP questioned the subsidy removal scheme, perceiving it as a deceptive mechanism that subjects Nigerians to a preplanned system of socio-economic enslavement dictated by an insensitive leadership. The coalition emphasized that their concerns extended beyond political opposition, as they had initially hoped for better outcomes for Nigerians following the subsidy removal. However, the current situation paints a bleak picture, with detrimental consequences for the Nigerian population in various aspects of life.

The spokesperson for CUPP admonished the government for neglecting its citizens and leaving them at the mercy of unpredictable market forces, without implementing effective palliative measures. The coalition argued that no responsible government would callously abandon its people to the mercy of exploitative market dynamics, which are inherently callous and inhumane. Such a policy, they asserted, not only lacked social responsibility but was also outrageously unfair.

While acknowledging that Nigerians had demonstrated understanding regarding the subsidy removal, the coalition urged the administration not to push them to their limits, potentially sparking uncontrollable mass crises that could further jeopardize the well-being of ordinary citizens.

The CUPP demanded immediate action from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to exhibit compassionate leadership by preventing the National Nigerian Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) from falling into the hands of the same entities that misappropriated fuel subsidy funds, resulting in its removal. They called for a thorough investigation into the tenure of the NNPCL’s Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, to uncover any misconduct and ensure comprehensive prosecution of any discovered infractions. Only then, they argued, could the NNPCL break free from the clutches of economic cabals and cease being an instrument of their economic terrorism.

The coalition implored the government to swiftly reverse the recent fuel price hikes and prevent any future clandestine attempts to further burden Nigerians with escalating pump prices. They questioned when Nigerians would finally be liberated from the cruelty imposed upon them by their own government.
