Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasized the state’s steady progress in economic development as he celebrated its 33rd anniversary on Tuesday. Speaking at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, Oborevwori commended the state’s emergence as a significant force within Nigeria.
In his address, Governor Oborevwori reflected on the state’s journey over the past 33 years, describing it as both challenging and rewarding. He remarked, “I am proud to say that Delta State has become a strong and dynamic component of the Nigerian federation. Our state stands out in terms of development, and our people are known for their entrepreneurial spirit and innovation.”
The Governor urged continued unity and reliance on divine support, stating, “Let us remain united in our prayers, seeking God’s blessings and protection. Only God can guide us to success and ensure our state’s continued progress.”
He expressed gratitude to Deltans for their peaceful conduct during recent protests and called for ongoing support to achieve the goals of his administration’s MORE Agenda.
On the topic of security, Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace in the state, noting that only through sustained security can development thrive. He highlighted his administration’s efforts in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and social investment programs, as well as collaboration with security agencies to address issues such as kidnapping and cultism.
“We are committed to enhancing peace and security in Delta State,” he said. “Despite challenges, we will continue to partner with security agencies to ensure a safe environment for all residents.”
Governor Oborevwori also paid tribute to former governors, political leaders, civil servants, royal fathers, faith leaders, and all Deltans, both locally and in the diaspora, for their contributions to the state’s progress.
In his sermon titled “The Power of Collective Thanksgiving,” Pastor Shiyanbade Adekunle of Living Faith Church stressed the importance of acknowledging God’s blessings. He encouraged Deltans to remain thankful and devoted to God, praying for continued peace and unity in the state.
Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme read a passage from Psalm 136 during the service, which also included prayers for the state’s continued prosperity.
