Delta Governor Oborevwori Suspends Rector, Bursar of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic Over Misconduct Allegations

By Anne Azuka

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, has suspended the Rector and Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, for six months following allegations of administrative and financial misconduct.

The Governor, who serves as Visitor to the institution, also upheld the earlier suspension of the Registrar, as approved by the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, the action was taken to enable an impartial investigation into allegations of administrative lapses and financial breaches against the affected officials.

Dr. Emu stated that the suspension was necessary to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the Polytechnic’s affairs. He noted that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with established procedures and in the best interest of the institution and the state.

“The suspension of the principal officers will allow for a thorough and unbiased inquiry into the allegations brought before the Governing Council,” the statement read. “The Delta State Government remains committed to upholding integrity and accountability across all public institutions.”

The statement further directed that the Deputy Rector should assume office as Acting Rector for the duration of the suspension, while the most senior accountant in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar.

Governor Oborevwori reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and financial mismanagement within the state’s tertiary institutions. He emphasized that the government’s priority is to maintain a transparent, efficient, and credible academic environment that supports excellence and good governance.

The Governor also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all investigations are handled professionally, adding that those found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action.

This latest development underscores the Delta State Government’s continued efforts to strengthen accountability and restore confidence in the administration of public tertiary institutions.

The Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, is one of the state’s key higher institutions, offering technical and vocational education aimed at boosting manpower development and economic growth in the region.

With the temporary leadership changes, the government expressed optimism that normal academic and administrative operations would continue without disruption while the investigation is ongoing.
