By Anne Azuka

The National Leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has conferred an Award of Excellence in Sports Development on the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.

At a brief ceremony held on Tuesday in Asaba, the state capital, the Speaker was also decorated as an Associate Member of SWAN, with full rights and privileges.

SWAN National President, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin, commended Guwor’s commitment to sports development and his collaboration with sports journalists, describing him as a dependable partner in advancing the industry.

Benjamin recalled the association’s last convention in Asaba, noting that the Speaker’s support contributed to the event’s success. He assured that SWAN would continue to support the Delta Assembly under Guwor’s leadership.

Responding, Rt. Hon. Guwor, who also serves as National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, expressed delight at the recognition.

He described himself as a passionate sports enthusiast and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening partnerships with SWAN and other stakeholders to promote sporting activities across the state.

“The 8th Assembly under my leadership will continue to encourage and support sports in Delta State. This award will further spur me to deepen participation and development of sports within and beyond the state,” he stated.

The Speaker received the award in the company of several House members, including Hon. Edafe Emakpor, Prince Emeka Osamuta, Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Benson Obire, Matthew Omonade, and Anthony Alapala. He was decorated as Associate Member by Azuka Chiemeke, SWAN Vice Chairman, South-South, while the plaque of excellence was presented by Comrade Benjamin.
