Asue Ighodalo, the former Chairman of Sterling Bank, has formally declared his intention to run for the Edo State Governorship Election in 2024. Making the announcement in Benin City, Edo State, Ighodalo expressed his interest in participating in the gubernatorial primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the governorship election for September 21. Ighodalo, known to have the support of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, is seeking to succeed Obaseki, who has reached his constitutional two-term limit.
Hailing from Ewohimi in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo Central District, Ighodalo’s candidacy aligns with Governor Obaseki’s desire to shift power to that region. The seasoned lawyer and former Director of Sterling Bank brings a wealth of experience, having co-founded the law firm Banwo-and-Ighodalo, specializing in corporate and commercial law practice.
