EEDC celebrates best NEMSA safety ranking

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has expressed delight for emerging overall best in Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) Safety ranking for 2018.

Emeka Ezeh, Head of Communications Department of the company in a statement made available in Awka, said the company was achieving the feat for second consecutive time.

Ezeh said the rating was a testament of sustainable safety practices which EEDC had consciously and consistently instilled in its staff and customers through various training and enlightenment programmes.

“NEMSA is an agency of government responsible for ensuring safety of lives and property in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI)

“It is enabling that a company which ranked fifth position in 2016, improved to the first position in 2017 and retained it in 2018,’’ he said.

According to him, some of the criteria used for the ranking range from fatalities; that is the
number of deaths within the network, major injuries and network issues resolved.

“In the course of the year under review, EEDC consistently maintained the first position in eight out of 12 months.

“This underscores the passion and conscious effort put in by management in ensuring that safety rules are strictly adhered to, and safe environment consistently maintained.

“It will be recalled that EEDC moved from the fifth position which it occupied in the 2016 ranking to first position in the 2017 ranking and has jealously retained the first position in the 2018 ranking.

“This achievement affirms the seriousness the organisation has been giving to Safety, and the continuous investment in qualified safety personnel and equipment,” said.

Ezeh promised that EEDC would intensify efforts in rectifying defective networks to prevent electrical accidents and reduce technical losses.

He further pledged that it would also intensify effort in enlightening and educating the general public on the need for extreme caution with the use of electricity through regular Town Hall meetings and mass media.

“Members of the public are encouraged to be safety conscious and desist from engaging in acts that will put their lives or that of their loved ones at risk,” he said.
