The Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN, Captain Rabiu Yadudu has confirmed armed bandits attack and abduction of some of their Staffs, noting that security has been strengthened across airports and its staff quarters in the northern part of the country.

He disclosed this Sunday, in a reaction to the recent attacks on FAAN staff quarters at Kaduna airport on Saturday morning by armed bandits and abduction of some staff of aviation agencies and members of their families.

Captain Yadudu said they have been communicating and working with security agencies and the State Government and have gathered some information that would assist them to handle the matter.

According to him, a risk assessment of a similar attack on its staff last year from what was gathered from their investigation had helped them to come up with a robust strategy to counter such challenges.

“We have already beefed security since last year, it is not something new now, we have our own means of communication in countering this challenges, a lot have been averted with what we have done, it is not something you know. right now an investigation is ongoing”, he said

The FAAN boss stressed that if there was a need for them to close the Kaduna airport due to the incident, they would do so but the recent attack does not warrant that, as the FAAN quarters is far away from the airport

“We have taken appropriate measures, we just need to now improve to counter these evolving challenges. The fence was broken, we have security personnel attending to the area but somehow somewhere things happen and now it is for us to counter, it is a risk, security challenges always come, they evolve and they improve and on our own part we keep improving”.

He assured that the security architecture of the airport would continue to be improved upon with the support of security agencies and the state government”, he stated.
