- Arrest and prosecute Fasina for double salary
- Decry corruption and systemic collapse in the institution
- University’s Governing Council aiding Fashina- Group
The Civil Society Initiative against Bad Leadership on Wednesday led a massive protest in Abuja against the current Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye- Ekiti calling for his arrest and prosecution over allegations of corruption.
The protest led by the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade James Princewill saw over 100 of students taking over the street bearing placards with inscription such as “Prof Fasina Must Go”, “Prof. Fasina Must Be Probed”, “Double Salary Is 5 Years Jail Term EFCC Act Now” amongst others.
A copy of the statement made available to our correspondent by the leadership of the society, revealed that Prof. Fasina has been allegedly involved in double salary payment, maladministration and other corrupt practices.
It reads: “We are aware that Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina who has just been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti has been involved in maladministration, corruption, financial recklessness and highhandedness.
It is pertinent to however note that just over a month into the administration of Prof. Abayomi Fasina, staggering corruption related activities has overtaken the institution with activities still being perpetrated. Against this backdrop, series of petitions was written to Chairman of the Governing Council to take action against the excesses of Prof. Abayomi Fasina but all to no avail. A breakdown of the Vice Chancellor’s corruption related activities are but not limited to diversion of over thirteen million naira being funds released by the University Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FOUYE) for the accreditation exercise that was held between 7th and 8th March, 2021 respectively, employment of friends and cronies without considering federal character, manipulated and allocated the sum of fifty million naira to his son, Fasina Damilola to study abroad when he was the Vice Chancellor Administration and in charge of TEDFUND committee under the immediate past administration in FOUYE, procured a new Toyota Jeep from FOUYE’s fund without following due process, not properly disengaging from Ekiti State University his original employer, before accepting his new appointment, thereby receiving salaries in Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria and the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria simultaneously for the months of; October 2016; December 2016; January 2017; February 2017 and September 2017, amongst others.
Comrade Princewill however, used the occasion of the protest to appeal to the Federal Government and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission to ensure that the VC is brought to book and held accountable for all his offense. It is imperative however that well meaning Nigerians who are hungry and thirsty for good and exemplary leadership to quickly intervene in all this so as to save the institution from further damage, ridicule and embarrassment.
